I am right there with you. My Dad did get the original vaccine but has been resistant to the booster. He wouldn't let me make an appointment for him when I got here. "We'd talk about it later." Today is my birthday, and so I said I wanted to talk about it. And for an hour we did, and at the end he said, "Since it's your birthday..." and I was able to make the appointment.

This thread was good practice, and I am thankful for the information everyone has provided, especially @Heppenheimer so that I could apparently, answer his questions well enough. If I had to pick a word to describe his position it would be distrust. Distrust of reporting, distrust of what he perceived as the process. How we decide which studies to follow. He seemed to not understand how the vaccine could leave the body so quickly and still learn how to fight the virus. He brought up Dr. Malone, VAERS reports. I asked how come he is so quick to distrust so much from articles and scientists but so accepting of the things Dr. Malone says. He said he didn't believe it, and I countered with the fact that he was telling me means it must of made an impact on his thinking because why repeat it if he didn't think there was truth in it. Anyway... appointment made.

Tomorrow, we re-enter the lion's den which is Epcot and have lunch at Space 220.

What are you talking about? I was on my way to the bank today and there was a little pop up booth right next to the bank with not one person in line. If I wanted to get a giant stick shoved up my nose, I could have done so before I went into the bank with no wait whatsoever. The CityMD down the block is the only one that ever has a long line.

Your post proves my point, though. You didn't just go over and tell this woman she was stupid, did you? You actually tried to have a conversation with her and get to the bottom of why she felt as she did. True, it seems you weren't able to get very far in this instance, but you tried, and you did so by engaging with rather than berating and belittling her.

To be absolutely clear: I am in no way saying that such people should be coddled or left unchallenged. That is very far indeed from my stance. All I'm saying is that we're likely to get a lot further by treating sceptical or brainwashed individuals as fellow human beings.

But Covid, masks, vaccines…. It’s all gone a bit crazy. It’s been politicized, it’s been used to divide. And misinformation is rampant.

As I've pointed out multiple times now, some of the most vaccine-hesitant individuals out there are people of colour and members of ethnic minorities. This is a reality in both the US and the UK (I can't speak to the situation in Canada). Some of you take comfort in imagining the unvaccinated as boorish reactionaries who vote a particular way, but you are painting a grossly simplistic picture. I'm tired of it.

I’m glad for you. But That is not true everywhere. We are several days away from Christmas and the poor planning is leaving many people scrambling. They missed the boat on this one. It’s already played out, how do you not see that? They failed already because they were not prepared ahead of time. You don’t act once the **** has already hit the fan.

It really is tragic what happens when the country is so set on healthcare being a for-profit haven during a global health pandemic; you get things like a company destroying tests that could have been used. Too bad we do not have centralized, universal health services to get us through this, right?

1.67 tests per person?? Now that's a robust national resting scheme.

They could mail out a billion test kits Tgi people and some here will say why isn’t it 2 billion. They can say we are including a 2 thousand dollar check with each kit and some here will say why isn’t it 3 thousand. It’s so predictable.
Why don’t we say it would be nice if it was more but that’s a start. Maybe this is just a start and more will happen. Anything helps.

How many times does something like this have to be posted? Yes, people of color are more hesitant than caucasians but there is a huge divide between voting populations.
You say you are in London? There is a strong bias against immigrants there, are you one? That was a huge factor in why you got Brexit no?

It’s not a start when they don’t come out until we are likely on the back end of the Covid surge. Too late quite simply.

They're just like us, making decisions on the information they see and read and their experience and have the same concerns as everyone else. Doesn't mean they are making the right decision, doesn't mean they are experts in immunology, genetics, and the type of science needed to really understand how vaccines work. Doctors are by far making the decision to be vaccinated.

It might be good to ask without judgment as to why if you feel safe. You never know maybe you can reach. But yes, being a jerk won't help.

I'll be honest I wasn't even a guinea pig as much as others say. I use it to hush up guinea pig criers. Reality is I was phase 2/3 and while I worried some about side effects I wasn't testing dosing like phase 1. Before that too the vaccines evolved from other viruses so I really wasn't among the first. I was glad to do it and I absolutely use it to hush people up. I say it to remind those who don't trust, that there are people who have been vaccinated for a year and a half (for earlier ones). I trust science even if I hate needles. It's definitely a powerful aid to help some. Though I did have a neighbor and former friend block me because of it on facebook. Quite glad our kids didn't remain friends tbh. One less thing to worry about.

Yep I agree, the phase 1 people are the biggest risk takers in the trial(s).

They only have animal, lab, theoretical work, and past research to gauge the risk they are taking. If it goes south really bad in a big way, they (about 360 participants) are the ones to suffer those consequences.
Those of us in Phase 2 and Phase 3 (~15,000 who got the vaccine originally) only had to worry about it going wrong in a bit less common way. Just had my booster trial post 30 day phone call. Told them of the day after booster events which are considered adverse effects, but honestly those effects would never stop me from getting the booster if I had to do it again. Having had moderate covid-19 post original 2-dose vaccine I would still get a booster over risking moderate or worse covid any day.
