What exactly was the announcement for Canadians today? From all Incould find, nothing officially changed in actual policy, other than a strong recommendation against traveling.

Essentially it's an updated advisory. They have technically never banned travel, but had this advisory in place until October, and now it is back:

Essentially when they release this advisory it means the world is volatile, things can change at a moments notice, and if you choose to travel and get stuck due to other countries closing, the government may not be able to help you.

It may also mean travel insurance won't cover you for anything travel or covid health wise if abroad, as you were advised to avoid travelling.

Etc.

We are basically back to March 2020 - October 2021 times.

Until Spring 2022 as the pandemic will be ending by then as more people are vaccinated by then. That is why the wave will getting way smaller by Spring 2022.
And Canada will be reopening the borders again for good.

I'm surprised any one expected anything different. Especially with the new variant out there. I have a feeling in the next few weeks more restrictions will be added. Personally IMO they should never have dropped it in the first place.

As someone who follows all the rules, who was on a big trip March 2020, and came home as asked and cancelled remainder of our trip... I did not really think we would come back to this place, so quickly that is.

Based on what was said, our vaccine progress, I thought those big restrictions were pretty much done. I assume a lot of others thought the same. At the same time, we had always decided not to plan anything international as it seemed too risky, chaotic, and expensive with all the testing requirements.

But I have a feeling a lot of people booked holidays in October, and many will be disregarding this advice. Hopefully it doesn't screw us.

Just received notice for DD13s school the district is changing their attendance policy and goes into effect Jan 11 2022. Supposedly due to increased absences in the previous 20 months: Excused absences after the first 5 will require documentation i.e. doctors note, bereavement, etc. Failure to provide documentation will count as an unexcused absence and after 3 subject to Indiana law and possibly prosecution.

3 unexcused absences gets you in trouble?!?!? Damn, that's strict! When I was a kid, I think we got 12 absences for the year but all they did at that point was hold you back a year if your grades weren't good enough.

12 absences rings a bell. In my school back in the day, some parents do not even blink an eye pulling their kid out of school for a week to spend that time on vacation at WDW.

It was a secret meeting to enact our final phase of claiming squatters rights to Florida and Walt Disney World.

Then we'll enact a vaccine passport and close off WDW to Americans. It's all very forecasted, the geese have been hinting at our true societal beliefs for years.

Not to mention the employer has now likely angered a lot of their employees because they didn't take steps to keep them safe.

If I caught COVID at work, and felt the employer didn't do the things they could have done to prevent it (i.e. mandating vaccinations) I'd be stretching that sick leave as far as I can, let me tell you.

My job just sent out a company wide email stating that if any employee is not fully vaccinated, including booster, by January 1, they will conclude that any of those unvaccinated employees will have resigned their positions, effective immediately.

Feels a little harsh otherwise to include the booster too. Every place I’ve heard had a requirement like this announced it with enough lead time for the unvaccinated to take action.

I like the sentiment, but also some lead time to allow people to react.

They told us months ago that all employees would have to be vaccinated to return to the office on January 10 when we reopen. All the NY and California employees are vaccinated but apparently there are a bunch of holdouts in the Nashville and Florida locations, so I think they’re doing this as a scare tactic……but they are also serious about it.
