I think I know a little bit more about admitting to the hospital then you. Other then the “too weak to go home” contingent, there are really good reason those obs pts are in the hospital and are treated no different.

Observation is a creation of the government to save on Medicare costs and completely arbitrary. Those people need to be in a hospital it’s just their problem is deemed to minor or able to be fixed too quickly to have the govt foot the whole bill.

That’s an exaggeration. Florida had it horrible with delta and yet they still did not become overwhelmed. Yes they had to adjust in some areas but it never turned into the disaster some predicted. And it only lasted like 3 months.

and your observations on South Africa you suggested previously were just inaccurate. Cases are less severe at the moment. And to add on further, the outbreak at the party in Norway between unvaccinated and vaccinated, no cases were severe. We will see if this holds.

and we also have a lot more vaccinated than South Africa.

Your info is flawed and full of misinformation. ER according to reports / waits average 6-7 hours and that's not even being admitted.

Then tell your leaders to mandate vaccines for all because the delay strategy isn’t working. delta is still here. More variants will continue to pop up because not enough are vaccinated and we try to keep delaying the inevitable. It will be a never ending cycle until maybe years from now, we get lucky. Or maybe the opposite will happen and the next will be worse than delta.

How many severe cases would you have expected to find in a group of vaccinated, younger and it's Norway so presumably healthier adults if you never even heard of Omicron? 0, less than 5, more than 5, more than 10? That number you would have expected matters. If you expected 0 before Omicron, and it's 0 after, what does that even tell us? The fact that a single person could infect at least 60 out of 120 people seems like it should be fairly unsettling. Because the next 120 might not be so young, healthy or vaccinated.

"Heaven's waiting room" has its privileges. Florida is better-positioned to handle surges in heath care needs. That was true before COVID and will be true after based on graduation levels. Florida ranks #1 in projected RNs 2020-2030. Ohio is #2, so good for you. Unless the CAN / US border becomes the limiting factor for you, since you even acknowledge they don't have the same ability to deal with surges. YMMV is very much in play.

The new variant could be our best way out of the pandemic because there aren’t enough vaccinated in the world to beat it that way, an no one seems interested in mandating for all.

Overtake all other variants and burn through the world population as quickly as possible. Don’t mitigate much outside vaccines because you will just delay it. Hopefully it can be mild enough to not leave too much destruction in its path. Last point is important.

It does seem in South Africa that previous infection from delta or beta doesn’t necessarily give you protection from getting omicron. But it supposedly keeps the case less severe. Or it can be they omicron is less severe in general. Still early.

Mutations occur during replication. The unvaccinated are the one who are overwhelmingly sick, which is the result of replication. Even when there is a breakthrough case, the vaccines are not sick for as long.

The vaccine isn’t a thing that stays in your body. Your body destroying the virus reduces replication.

No, not at all. I live in NJ, and our governor put some pretty strict mitigation measures in place early last year but voluntarily lifted every one of them when conditions improved. It's not like we are talking about something like taxes where the government benefits for it, the government doesn't really benefit by forcing you to wear a mask unless you buy into the conspiracy theory that covid is a plot to control every facet of our life to establish a new world order.

We all know that mandatory anonymity is the hallmark of all authoritarian states.

Early indications seem to show that the vaccine may not protect as well from getting omicron, but still does very well in preventing severe omicron. Another reason to get vaccinated IMO

Uh, no. Inoculations / vaccinations are a pretty new invention, given the length of human existence. So for thousands of years, it is accurate to say that every single human was unvaccinated. Viruses still mutated. Evolutionary biology says that in an environment with high levels of immunity, such as through natural infection, in order to survive, the virus must adapt to invade immunity. Vax / no vax isn't the "force". Immunity, in general, is. So are you against immunity in order to prevent mutation?
