Having visited MK today for the first time since 2019, the first of 4 parks this week, I was definitely caught off guard.

Firstly, wasn't expecting the insane crowds. Couldn't move and people were acting crazy. Cast Members didn't seem to know anything. Like anything at all. Not a single one I spoke too knew what Beacons of Magic was. Many had attitude. I find many of the Cast Members 40 and under need a reality check. Where the older age group is fantastic. Is Disney just hiring anyone these days? The 50th seems like a **** show at the Magic Kingdom. Was probably my worst visit to the park since I first visited in the late 80s.

I'm sure covid can be part to blame, I understand but it was just pandemonium in every direction.

I'm fully vaccinated and masked but it makes no sense why they want masks on rides but squeeze you tight in lines without masks. Everything just seems all over the place.

I hope the other parks are better. Animal Kingdom tomorrow. Going in with the different mind set now.

There is still plenty of magic and I love it here but it seems right now WDW is in dire need of some direction and proper leadership because I've never seen it like this before.

I'll add, the resorts and Springs have been great all around. Security and officers also Fantastic. But MK is just a disaster.

The behavior of other guests also seems to just continue to be going downhill. Absolutely no regard for others.

Florida now has the 3rd lowest rate of Covid19 among the States. Yes, Florida is down to 14 cases per 100k and only Conneticut and Hawaii with 12 are lower. California is in 4th place at 15. Even better, on Monday Florida reported the 2 day weekend was at 11.15 and yesterday for the first time since Delta started they had just under 10 per 100k. I know that is only one day but 11 per 100k for 3 days is huge progress and only one state of the lower 48 has a lower rate!

I know Hawaii didn't have quite as high of a peak in cases per 100k (roughly 50% lower) as FL but it is interesting to say the least that currently they are so close given the diametrically opposed mitigation philosophies. Hawaii also has a significantly higher vaccine acceptance for one shot but for whatever reason basically the same fully vaccinated percentage as FL.

Despite the perceptions, a vacation in Hawaii is not any "safer" than a vacation at WDW but you don't have to jump through hoops to vacation at WDW.

They switched our fall break to this week, added Elearning for Monday & Tuesday so no full week, had to cancel vacation plans to HHN. And they'vechanged winter break to be even longer. Now kids last day is December 17th and returning January 11th= 24 days out. Use to be last day December 23rd return January 3rd. Husband can't take vacation during that time due to work.

I'd disagree with that. Assuming flying to each location, at least to Hawaii you are assured that everyone on the plane has been vaccinated or tested negative in the past 3 days. and in Hawaii, it is quite easy to be distanced from other people. In our seek there, I was very rarely within 10 feet of another person, vs. the time spent in lines/transportation in WDW.

I'm wondering if the longer holiday break is so the kids that can't yet get vaccinated will have time without being near many different people before returning.

To be fair we have never gotten a fall break. Not even as a kid. A long weekend like now, but no full week at my district. Our end of year break is 2 weeks. No winter break in Feb and a week plus 1 day for spring break. We get out June 1st which I find silly going back 1.5 days after Memorial Day but not my choice.

If the spread is the same once you're there then it isn't safer in general. Also, if there is increased risk on an airplane (which based on air flow and filtration I don't really think is high risk) you are spending at least 3 hours more on board flying to Hawaii.

The queues are the only place with increased risk at WDW vs. Hawaii. However, with the current case rate there is a very small chance that you are within 6 feet of an infected and contagious person while in a queue and an even smaller chance of being within 3 feet which is the current CDC guidance.

Except at MK (although I guess you can walk) you can avoid Disney transportation completely and at MK you can take the ferry to be outdoors.

Personally I'd say that probably wasn't part of their reasoning as the calendar was agreed to in June when numbers were decreasing and "vaccine for kid by fall" was the rumor. This is also a district that also put their masking decision on the health department and the health department saying the requirements are for the school to decide.
