Yep. And Disney will decide when one group is larger than the other and pull the lever.

Exactly, and Disney can't keep going no matter what if their Cast Members are getting sick and creating voids and spreading exposure.

The vaccine deadline just around the corner will help a lot with that issue.

If "the goal" moved around and fluctuated location (i.e. WDW floated around) then it may be hard to nail down a specific day and time of arrival.

The pill series is $700. The government (we the people) is paying for now. The vaccine is $20. I'm still not sold on rapid tests, too unreliable. They should be followed by a PCR test to verify but it would be so much easier and much lower cost to just go get vaccinated.

Wow, I didn't see that for the cost. I was thinking more on the lines of Advil or Sudafed.

Agreed tha vaccine is the first course, I was just thinking of the future when you are wondering if this is a breakthrough infection. A 95%-accurate test you can administer at home in minutes would be a good tool to have.

For those who refuse to visit Florida until Covid19 cases fall to the level the US used to use as safe 10 cases per 100k or less you time has almost come. Today Florida reported their 7 day aversge is down to 3,263 or 15.15 cases a day. That means the odds are extremely high that Florida will be in single digits within the next weeks. So start your planning and have a great Disney and or Universal Vacation. BTW the daily average is based on a population estimate of 21.47 million so the actual number is less.

The Universuty of Florida just put out a new study this week on this, so this is probably better than just thoughts. This type of thing is actually useful for real planning.

Good Lord, let's hope that's accurate and there are no new surprises.

Florida is kind of the opposite of the north - we open up more windows (better ventilation) and go outside more in the winter, while they're all going back inside.

To paraphrase Luke Skywalker, "Our overconfidence has been our weakness". If this pandemic has taught us anything, it should have taught us humility and caution.

Plus, some of us have children who will still be too young to get vaccinated even after Pfizer (hopefully) gets their EAU.

The mayor and head of the county health dept. anticipate moving from high to substantial by the end of the week. But, it isn't until you get to "low" or "moderate" that the recommendation is that vaccinated people don't have to wear a mask in indoor, public spaces.

You know that wearing masks and being vaccinated lowers the peak but also widens the surge curve too right? Their slope is less severe because of it, they’ll get there. Everyone wanted to compare CA to FL this summer when they bit spiked, CA has a whole lot more orange and will have yellow counties likely this week.

Exactly. Outside of vaccination which can reduce the total deaths and severe illnesses, all that mitigation measures accomplish is spreading out the cases and lowering the peak. Kind of like how Fauci drew with his finger in an early press conference before we started pretending that the goal of mitigation was to save lives and end COVID.

Vaccination can at least accomplish the former. I'm not sure if anything can accomplish the latter, at least worldwide.

Maybe I am reading that wrong, but until people get vaccinated, wouldn't spreading the spikes and peaks out help the severe toll on communities including their healthcare? Isn't that part of the goal?

This is a misunderstanding of the "flatten the curve" idea early in the pandemic. The reason why lowering the peak just spreads cases out over a longer amount of time is because, without vaccination, no one has immunity to the virus without being infected. If people are vaccinated, this reduces the total number of cases. At that point, masking and social distancing can lower the peak and spread cases out over a long enough period of time that the total number of cases do not become spread out, but instead is reduced as people are simultaneously acquiring immunity from vaccination rather than infection.

Vaccination is fundamentally different from masking and social distancing. That's why, from a public health perspective, people should be vaccinated (and, as necessary) continue to mask or social distance depending on local conditions.

There's also absolutely no evidence whatsoever what authority Disney is listening to regarding its mask mandate. If I recall correctly, it wasn't until OC's State of Emergency that triggered the change. If Demings pulls the State of Emergency, it's likely Disney will pull the masks.

Technically, it is low or moderate where the recommendation is removed. But I'm not sure OC ever gets to moderate. Even at the lowest case numbers OC saw in early July, it was still technically 'substantial' spread (orange; over 50 cases per week per 100k). 'Moderate' is really not moderate at all. But we'll see.

Ive said this before, but as long as there isn’t really any type of definable goal, it’s not possible to succeed. Some are okay with the “it will be time when it’s time” process, so here we are…and here we will stay for quite some time.
