Well... what has felt inevitable at times here in Florida has now happened. My brother (vaccinated) was supposed to visit this weekend for HHN. He woke up feeling a little "weird" and has taken two positive at home tests. Waiting on results for PCR.

Incredibly disappointing since we had plans, but obviously I hope he has a mild case and gets through it quickly. Honestly, in some ways here in Florida it seems like I'm just waiting until my number is called, too.

I know how you feel, I work in a casino in Las Vegas.

Honestly after 6 months of being around hundreds (to thousands) of people every day I feel pretty confidant at this point I’m as immune as im going to be (knock on wood). My girlfriend asked if I was going to get the booster and at this point I don’t plan too unless some new research comes up that shows the pfizer diminishes further over time. I know for a fact I’ve worked 8 hours with people who tested positive the next day, not sure how I could be more exposed than that unless I start licking things and making out with random people, fingers crossed the vaccine and my immune system continue to keep me safe.

The only thing that we need “hope” for as far as ending the pandemic is figuring out how to get the rest of the people vaccinated. I hope we figure that out.

I personally dont think this one’s ever going away, that said I’d be perfectly happy to get back to no restrictions and only a few thousand deaths a year, we live with several viruses we haven’t been able to completely eliminate but by managing them our lives go on without giving them any thought.

The all or nothing standpoints are weird to me, even if we can’t eliminate it that’s no excuse not to reduce it as much as possible.

I have to think Vegas casino workers have some of the strongest immune systems possible. Not sure what the hand washing protocols were in the pre-covid era, but whether it be handing playing cards, poker chips, or someone tossing down their horn bets at the last second, your hands are exposed to who knows what from who knows where all day long and I'm not sure how much hand washing you can do to get all that off.

We don't have a national passport system either. Our provinces are like your states in that each one makes their own rules. Our federal government is making mandatory proof of vaccination a requirement for travel within the country.

Still, easier to get a group of 13 to agree on something than a group of 50+.

Again, our government can't do that here. They might be able to instate a restriction on public transit, but as far as restricting free travel between states? Nope, starts to get into a constitutional issue. The lawyer with whom I live even questions the constitutionality of Hawaii's travel restrictions, but that would have to be challenged in court, and no one wants to do that right now.

Especially in a country that has more than a half dozen political parties and as a result is governed by moderates who don’t have to cater to the extremes like a two party system.

Except its different. Our states are not like your provinces. Our population is not like your population; we have a very different makeup. Our constitution is not like your constitution.

If you're vaccinated, it sounds like you may have received the equivalent of several micro-boosters.

That might be enough, at least locally in those 13 or 20 areas.

Not going to help with my WDW trip next year. But, at least locally in those areas it would drive down transmission.

Your best hope of seeing that would be a block of states in the NE or maybe several on the West coast and those are the places with the highest vaccination rates already. I would still welcome it. If NYC can do it then many of their neighbors can. I really like the arena and stadium requirements too.

Like a continuum of the regional consortiums of last year? That would be great.

My oldest has his DC/NYC combo trip this coming May, and is thrilled at the thought that NYC has vaccine requirements for theaters and whatnot.

As for travel, I might be off base but I think I see some writing on the wall that we will see a domestic vaccine requirement for air travel once 5-11 gets approval/authorization. The opening of international travel and tightening of testing requirements for unvaccinated Americans seems to say to me that the administration wants to go further while moving toward “normal” for the vaccinated. A testing option (and I hope they make the timeframe next to impractical) will probably stick around just to attempt to avoid interstate commerce court fights, but I won’t be shocked in the least to see vaccines be required to board a plane or interstate train 7-8 weeks after EUA date for 5-11.

As the CDC county map starts to turn from Red to Orange to Yellow and Blue (hopefully), I suspect we're going to see it grow outward from areas. We'll see one county make the transition first, then it's neighbors will begin to shift too. I think we'll see areas of Blue surrounded by Yellow, then Orange, then Red filling in all the empty space between them. That we'll see them join and expand as blocks. Not some patchwork random shift here and there with Blue counties right next to Red ones. The ones that look like that right now seem to be reporting errors not really Blue.

Get a block in the NE and on the West coast and grow it out from there. Gotta start somewhere. People that live on the boarders will need to adjust based on how they interact. Which will allow whatever measures to grow outward, since they're not big changes then. People already doing whatever when they cross the imaginary boarder.

I mean, sure, if two areas are separated by a river with very few or no river crossings that make cross river interactions difficult, then it wouldn't have that kind of spread. But, is there anyplace in the US like that anymore? I suppose a West coast block could expand until it hits the Rockies and then it'll have a harder time organically moving farther East. But, a NE block could expand South and West slowly until it was everywhere. That'll put TX and FL at the very end of any shift that happens this way as they're farthest from the originating points.

If we got a block of states from Virginia to Maine we would hit 13 if you count DC. Maybe 3 or 4 on the West coast. I can’t see us hitting 20 easily.

Yeah, but there isn’t a ton of movement there. If you had rules in PA and not NJ that would be a bigger problem since there’s large population centers on either side of the river that cross back and forth regularly. NYC/NJ/CT as well or VA/MD/DC
