News Zootopia and Moana Blue Sky concepts for Disney's Animal Kingdom

Ugh.

Blog Mickey seems to believe a retheme announcement will happen at Destination D23 in September.
"While the project has not yet been given a (public) green light, Animal Kingdom will need a shot in the arm to prevent it from becoming the least-attended Disney theme park in the United States."

What would really help is actual expansions instead of getting back to the capacity the park had in like 2018. If Pandora couldn't permanently keep numbers up it's a sign that guests want more rides in this park, not just replacements. Replacements are just a bandaid, not a cure.

I like BlogMickey, but I just want to point out that one of the four parks has to be "the least attended" by definition.

What matters is by how much and how it's doing now compared to its past. Being "the least attended" isn't a cause for alarm unless it represents an unusual drop.

I clicked through to another article about attendance and it looks like there was a considerable drop for Animal Kingdom (although not clear in the original dino article)

I misread the article a bit, I thought it said DAK was already last place in the US even below DCA. That would be pretty sad for DAK; none of the WDW parks should dip below DCA lol.

but yeah, both these things need to happen ASAP. I love AK but it really feels like there isn't a whole lot to do (even though I know there are lots of smaller things all over the place, you know what I mean)

And dino is hidden enough that its Zootopia makeover shouldn't really kill any existing aesthetic within the rest of the park

Yeah, discussion of this came up in the TEA thread.

I think most agreed that the loss of nighttime entertainment and rides hurt DAK by reverting it back to a 'half day park.'

It definitely needs more. A lot more.

I mean, Cars Land is pretty rad
Cars Land looks awesome. But it's still DCA lol

It's annoying that they have so much expansion space but continue to just rip out & replace. Use some of that extra room first!!!

Unfortunately, once the new San Fransokyo overlay opens at DCA, Animal Kingdom will have no hope. 😔

Not sure if part of the concept is to keep everything closed.

On the other hand, DAK has tremendous room to expand its yearly attendance. Plus better rides allow them to charge more on Genie+ there!

I just hope they can try to put some educational elements into whatever they do with Zootopia.

I wouldn't be surprised if that movie has gotten a lot of kids into animals, so I bet they'd like to learn more. I got into animals & animal documentaries because of how much I loved Lion King as a kid. It's been a lifelong love & fascination.

I think movies can be a great gateway into learning about the real world. As a kid I was able to get into history because I was able to relate it to Star Wars & Indiana Jones.
