Your stuff when you go on a ride?

This is why always bring an eleven year old with me. Old enough to be walking and carrying your stuff around for fourteen hours and wait neatly for you at the rides' exits, not yet old enough to give you any annoying lip about it. (Hate it when that happens, as if the heat isn't enough)

A good pair of cargo shorts is all I need, as I usually only have my phone and sunglasses with me. Of course, I usually get OCD about the stuff in my pockets, and am constantly checking to make sure everything is in there before and after every ride, and while walking around the park.

Not at Disney but other amusement park experience leave me with a small pack thats easy to manage. Myself, hubby and DD7 stick to Zip lock each for our phones, smokes, and wallet. Feminine stuff if needed :( . A couple frogg toggs, map, keys, and sunscreen. Glow Sticks if we are staying late. And a change of clothes for DD just in case. Think having a kid with you alters just using pockets alot of times.

Always amazes me the amount of stuff some people bring with them to a park. I understand being prepared for any contingency but what are the odds of that happening? For me it's my wallet, car keys and phone.

Me too. We have been going for over 20 years and the only time we took bags to the park is when our kid were little and we carried a small diaper bag with what we needed for the day. Now, the only things I take with me is what fits in my pocket. Small wallet, phone, a small baggie of ibuprofen, and a lip balm. If it is especially hot then one of those small tubes of sunblock to reapply. That is it. Never needed anything else. If by chance you need a bandaid then you can always go to first aid. They are free there. Makes the trips so much easier and stress free. Plus skipping the bag check line is always a bonus. I would say to lay out everything you were planning on taking with you to the park and then getting rid of 1/2 of the stuff. Think if you really need that stuff.

I usually roll with a pair of cargo shorts which have more than enough space for everything I need, though I understand ladies usually need to pack more so a small purse should be no troubles.

Not really. I wear cargo shorts too and just fill them with tampons. Best part is my pockets are empty by the end of the day.:D

Just don't stick it in a bush. I did that at Uni and pert-near never got my stuff back. The money I had was forcibly donated to charity. ...seriously.
I'm going to assume that you are not being serious, because that would possibly be the dumbest thing that anyone has ever done in a theme park. So, I will just move on.

You could have just gone with your last sentence....

I didn't, but should have, assumed I'd have the regular cadre of hyper-critics scrutinizing my posts. Therefore I left off the rest of the story. I mentioned money, bush, ride, lost and found, and forcibly donated. What I left off was, staff watching, not much money, and was told it was fine.

Additionally, we have to work on your definition of dumbest. Nothing I did could in any way result in injury, which I would think would be dumber.

I'm so happy to read of other people wearing cargo shorts to the parks. There's another thread where you'd think you'd committed the fashion faux-pas of the century by wearing cargo shorts (I wear 'em all the time!).

How about leaving a back pack in the bushes in an era when deserted stuff like that becomes a threat to everyone. That is what I was calling dumb. And if you lost anything, then what did you expect... little pixie dust spreaders to stand around and protect your wrongfully placed belongings. It's convenient to blame the CM's when your possessions are your responsibility, not theirs. If you have something of value you take care of it yourself you don't leave it in the hands of strangers.

I personally like the Universal approach, free lockers for a short duration. It takes the hassle out of cramming purchases and cameras on the ride. Other parks like Six Flags charge for ride lockers....

Wut? Backpack? Never said anything about a backpack. Staff said it was ok to leave a Homer cup, a few bucks ($7) and some really good gum. It was done with staff blessing, and was withing line of sight of the three of them standing around chatting. It was staff that took the stuff, not a thief.

...to which you will undoubtedly reply, "you should not have placed a ticking briefcase full of cash next to a hobo that lives under the ride, that is sooo stupid".

Saved you some time, but I am going to pass on responding to your response that I typed.

My local Six flags Over Texas has free open cubicles you can stash stuff before coaster boarding.

I've got a camera backpack with my lenses and such in it. The other portion of that bag has my sunblock (I'm very fair-skinned), ponchos, water, etc... When I go on rides, I just put it between my feet with my leg through the strap.

As the dad in the family I was the one usually lugging around the "family" backpack with everyone's ponchos, souvenir purchases nobody wanted to carry anymore, and everyone else’s stuff they didn’t want to hold on rides (i.e. hats, purses, etc.). I’ve never had a problem finding a space for the backpack on any WDW ride, including but not limited to Space Mountain, Rock ‘n Roller Coaster, Splash Mountain, etc. Never lost anything yet!

I much rather have the bring your stuff on the ride, but some of Universals rides are not all practical for that.

I like and hate the free lockers. We've never been in peak season and still sometimes it is a major hassle to find a locker/fight the crowds. I am sure it could have a better implementation in the future though.

I've gotta have a poncho, sunscreen, and a couple waters too.

That's good because there is nothing to say about that gibberish. Have a magical day!

As for the OP, I would suggest minimizing what you take, for the sheer reason that you'll have a better time not schlepping around a big bag. We've never needed to leave anything behind. There's room for bags on the rides, and it's really no big deal. Other parks make you put everything in lockers. It's time consuming and leaves people with a disruption to their sense of security constantly leaving stuff and then retrieving it, forgetting to retrieve it etc. Everything just goes with you at WDW!
