Your High School

seeing how they only list 739 high schools, giving us an average of around 15 per state, I don't think too many people will be finding their high school listed. But congrats on yours being there.

Well, the high school I graduated from two years ago was #699, West Bloomfield! I was supposed to go to the International Academy, #1, but they filled up before I could take my entry exams. But I work at the Bloomfield Township Public Library with about 10 students who go there!

Freshman Year-Apopka (not there)
Sophomore Year-Lake Brantley (#222)
Junior Year-Dr. Phillips (not there)
Senior Year-West Orange (not there)

I didn't spot mine there, but did see my husband's.

Interestingly, the article said that the schools were chosen because they had a "mix" of average students, yet the #2 & #3 schools (which are in my district) are for academically gifted students only, and you can't get into the program (in elementary school) without a combination of grades, IQ, and standardized testing. They also DO NOT accept testing done at other (ie private or out of state) schools. Also, if all of the criteria is met, the names go into a lottery, and students are chosen that way.

The students are also put into a "take all AP or IB courses or leave" position. Not great for someone who is strong in one area, but not another. They also only took into consideration the number of AP/IB courses taken by the largest percentage of students, not the scores received. (according to the article in the local paper)

Yes, since these are the only (to my knowledge; the other private prep schools might be offering them now ) 2 schools that offer IB courses in the area, and there are only limited AP courses in the remaining dozen or so public schools, the students at these 2 schools do very well, in general. These students, and their teachers, are indeed the "cream of the crop"; the average (and less) students get skim milk. (IMHO)

Well, while I have some time, I guess I will tell you why my school is #715

first off..all year, my best friend and I had all of our classes in portables, and the only class I had in a building was drafting. We were in the parking lot 200 feet away from the main school building. It was pretty nice cuz it was like our own community, and the teachers let us get away with alot, but it still sucked, cause we had no fire alarm warning sound, or even a bell tone till after x-mas break. Also, the second month of school, they had put a giant cage around our ports, so it was like a "Portable kid zoo"--Everyone in our (PORTABLE) community said we went to PHS, even though we went to GHS, but PHS (portable high school) sounded better

Secondly, On the rare occasion we got food from school, since they almost always ran out, we had to eat outside, on some real old wooden picnic tables, cause the school is too cheap to expand the cafeteria.

And perhaps the best reason our school scored so low is because the administration is as dumb as a pillow.

My high school wasn't there either, although I do live in South Carolina, what did I expect. Altough, my former middle school was voted the best middle school in the nation by Time Magazine, what were they smoking. Anyway, the principal who was there at the time became my high school principal for my junior and senior year. My school had four principals during my four years there, now thats sad. Oh well, its still a good school, I am suprised it wasn't on there, well when I say good school I should qualify it with, in south carolina.

Of course, we aren't on there because my high school isn't a public school.

Catholic Memorial High School does rank higher though then Marquette or Arrowhead.
