Your Favourite Most Unusual Beer At WDW..

My wife and I are a bit beer obsessed. We have a collection of over 500 different bottles of beers that we have tasted and we brew quite a bit as well. Just yesterday, we went to a small beer festival with 50 different beers (http://www.brewsbratsandbands.com/beer.html). We tend to move away from said obsession while at Disney. We enjoy our pints at the Rose and Crown and most other places we get mixed drinks.

I wish that Epcot would keep the F&W brews around all the time - Unibroue, Innis&Gunn, and Xingu are all more enjoyable than most that I have had at Disney.

My wife really enjoys the Germans (especially with dinner and music in the pavilion) as well. We haven't done Big River in a few years because the beer was not very quality last time. Perhaps we will try again as small brewpubs often have quality control issues!

With the craft beer craze these days, I'm kind of surprised there aren't multiple microbreweries on property.
Is Big River the only one?
We've got the original one of those downtown.

Good idea! Would like to try a Mary Hoppins IPA or PinOakio Cask Brewed Ale.

Pumpkin ale... that sounds interesting.

They really range all over the place. Some are brewed with pumpkins during the brewing process, others are brewed simply with pumpkin pie-esqe spices. So some taste like raw pumpkins, others taste like pumpkin pie, and others still are just kinda sweet.

We went to a local fund raiser a couple weeks ago that was basically a huge Oktoberfest. $30 tickets and all the beer you can drink. I surprised myself by liking almost everything I tried (and finishing all but one!). The scotch ales were a big hit with our group, which was no surprise to me. I would recommend trying the Innis & Gunn at the Scotland booth this year, especially if you have a taste for whiskey at all. It's made through a similar barrel-aging process to whiskey. I also had several pumpkin ales that I liked. I went back for seconds of the New Belgium Pumpkick. That's another one you might like if you ever get a chance to try it.

My Rotary Club just did an Oktoberfest fund raiser this Saturday. One of the beers we had on tap was a local one - BOAKS Brewery's Wooden Beanie. It's a dark ale, brewed with vanilla beans in the mash. Then they put staves from used Jack Daniels barrels in the kegs and let it mellow for a while. That was an interesting beer. Also had Two Blind Monks from BOAKs and Raging Bull and There is no Rye-ing in Basebull from Bolero Snort brewery. Plus a variery of more mainstream stuff. I lost track of how many beers I served (the kitchen was no better, they were slammed as well) - great time.

As for WDW, they are very few beers there that I would call unusual. I myself have made some unusual ones, sometimes by mistake (drinking while brewing leads to some "experiments" such as the poorly conceived lemon/lime beer - took a long time to get through that 5 gallon batch)

Blue Moon is a Belgian-style ale, but it's not from Belgium. It's brewed in Golden, CO, just like Coors. In fact, it's under the Coors corporate umbrella. No wonder you liked it!

Made with pure Rocky Mountain spring water.

Coors is no longer Coors. It is part of MillerCoors or Molson Coors, depending on how you are looking at it. Technically HQd in Denver now (partly), but not entirely the Coors of old (hello, Smoky and the Bandit). And Blue Moon is technically brewed by Blue Moon Brewing, part of the "microbrew" subsidiary. Originally it was only brewed at The Sandlot at Coors Field. Once they really started growing it, they started making it in Golden.b Also made in Canada under Molson.

Everyone and their brother seems to be doing Pumpkin beers this year. I hate pumpkin, so they are not up my alley. But there are a lot of them out there.

The amber lager at Animal Kingdom Lodge restaurants. Bartender (may as well be bus driver) said it is specially made for them from Budweiser. I tried a regular Amber Bock when we got home and it is not the same beer.

Always the case when we brew. Usually turns out OK, though!

Rix Red Lager which is available at CSR was a good nighttime wind-down beer while sitting outside by the water. I recently learned that it is also offered at the Outpost in World Showcase under the name of Safari Amber.

I read that they've added Cigar City Brewing's Maduro Brown Ale to the list of beers in several locations in WDW, including Scat Cat's at POFQ :hungry: As I recall, this stuff actually has a bit of a cigar taste, and is quite good. I intend to try one very soon!!!

Definitely going to try this!
You will not be disappointed!

Bought that tasting flight. Normally my DW runs away from beer, having one to many bad experiences with Natty Light growing up. Had a sip of the grapefruit, told her to smell it. (I do this alot with fruit and flavored beers, see if she can smell what I smell or if she just detect "beer") Next thing I know, she is trying it. And asking me if she can have the rest of it. And then buying 2 of the 22oz over the next few days. She also ended up liking the Shandy, but you can buy that anywhere. If she liked it, it must be good.....

I think the winner in Epcot is the grapefruit beer. I prefer the Oktoberfest, but the grapefruit had a really interesting flavor. I also 2nd the Canadian Unibroues. WDW does need more craft beer to be available. It would really make the American Pavilion actually worth visiting when drinking around the world. I did like the choices when I had dinner at The Wave last year. I can't remember what I had and their menu online doesn't say the brands however.

Ok..My old friend Crush Dude from Ireland ( WDWMAGIC ) loved his beers, and always said my taste was awful,:(..I do like Coors..:hungry:...Anyway,last year I tried my first Blue Moon from Belgian, complete with a slice of orange..Now here in Scotland,Tenants is a very popular lager, but this Moon had me intrigued with its fruit in it...I really enjoyed the flavour as it was completely different to anything I've ever had before..So what has been your most unusual, and favourite beer at Disney...;)
According to this Blue Moon is America's favorite beer: http://www.businessinsider.com/map-americas-favorite-beers-by-state-2013-10
If you lived over here you could drink it whenever you want. Its on tap pretty much everywhere by me.
Pumpkin ale... that sounds interesting.
If you can find Shipyard Pumpkinhead or their Smashed Pumpkin (bigger bottle, bigger APV than the Pumpkinhead) anywhere in NJ, get some. Also let me know where because I can't find it anywhere by me this year. Really great pumpkin flavor that isn't too sweet or spiced.
