Your Favorite: Christmas Motion Picture

The original Miracle on 34th Street, which I believe NBC should always show on Thanksgiving Day, in the evening after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, since it centers around Macy's and the parade.

I also like It's a Wonderful Life, which I first discovered during my teenage years, when it was on our local PBS station before it became popular again. Many people do not realize that it had fallen into obscurity and the copyright was lost, which actually helped it to become popular again. TV stations could show it for free, and so many did. That lead to widespread repeats... and people rediscovered it. Then, of course, its original copyright owners (Republic Pictures) used a complicated argument about other rights it owned to the story and music, to regain effective copyright of the picture, which it subsequently licensed exclusively to NBC. I do think that NBC is a good place for it (with a storied history and popular Christmas tree, etc.). Just wish they would show it more often.

As for TV, I like A Chorlie Brown Christmas. Nothing can top it, especially in its pure, simple message about the real meaning of Christmas.

I miss the old variety-show style Christmas specials put on each year by people like Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and others. I would love to see Drew Carey or others do one again.

I also loved the old variety-show Christmas specials—really enjoyed the old Andy Williams Christmas show, in particular. I wish they'd air those specials again around this time of year. Thanks for that little jaunt down memory lane . . .

Hahaha--Todd and Margo! That movie is such a guilty pleasure.

Todd: Hey, Griswold, where are you going to put a tree that big?

Clark: Bend over and I'll show you.

Todd: You gotta lot of nerve talking to me like that, Griswold.

Clark: I wasn't talking to you. [he looks at Margo]

There are so many great Christmas movies. In no particular order Elf, Its a Wonderful Life, Home Alone, Millions. If you haven't seen Millions, give it a try.

A Charlie Brown Christmas. It's probably not considered a motion picture, but it is one of the few that reflects the true meaning of Christmas, and who doesn't love Charlie Brown? I look forward to watching this special each year. It is the best. "Christmastime is Here" is such a great song. "That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown!"

My other favorite is White Christmas, starring Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen. This is another classic in my household. We watch it every year. It's highly entertaining, the storyline is great and I love the characters. Fantastic film.

I really like Christmas Story especially since one of my high school teachers was a huge Jean Sheppard fan so I was exposed to his material early on. I am also a big fan of A Christams Carol which I try to read every year at the holiday. My favorite movie version if the George C Scott one. As for Christmas speicals, my favorite is without a doubt Charlie Brown Christmas.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Home Alone 4.

The acting, the suspense, the plot, the way the producers forgot which burglar was which & had Marv return dressed as Harry from the first two installments. All of it was Oscar gold.

It was missing Joe Pesci fighting the urge to curse in a kids movie, which is the essential part of a Home Alone film.

Favorite move would be We're No Angels, but it never gets played anymore. Second would be Arthur Christmas.

But for TV it's gotta be Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. Especially for the music. Then again, Christmas Eve is always reserved for a family viewing of A Wish For Wings That Work.

My favorite Christmas movie is Muppet Christmas Carol. "Help, I'm being stolen!" I love Elf and Fred Clause as well.

As far as TV goes, there is nothing better than a Muppet family Christmas. (orig TV version, not the video release.) I also love the Rankin and Bass Santa Clause is coming to town.

It's a wonderful life. Yes, it's corny, but, the first time I saw it was Christmas Eve in Bien Hoa, So. Vietnam (that would make a good movie title). I sat in front of a 13 inch TV screen and was almost in tears. I guess I was missing being home. In the meantime, huge numbers of my fellow G.I.'s were outside (about 90 degrees at night) lighting farts, drinking themselves into a stupor and having random fist fights. (not necessarily in that order) BTW, when they decided that lighting farts was dangerous, they proceeded to fill their mouths with lighter fluid and igniting it while the spit it out. Good times. (sigh) Strangest Christmas I ever had, but the movie won me over.
