There are already offers available for 2011 if you live in the UK, you can get free dining 1st Jan to 17th Feb 2011 and 1st May to 2nd Jun 2011 (these are both times they have never offered free dining from the UK before) and the usual 1st Aug to 18th Nov 2011 and this offer is on all bookings made up to 1st nov 2010. This is the longest free dining offer I have seen from the UK, there is also a current offer of 25% off stays in May and June 2010 which is a new style of discount here as well. This could be to bring more overseas visitors due to the current exchange rates being so low the USA is not the same great value it was in the past. What ever the reason the discount are already starting for 2011.

This is the most depressing thread I have ever read. So many think that only the rich should attend and like one poster said if you want it only rich then you better provide indoor lines with air and seating along the way with a bar about every 40 feet.. To make it so that the average hard working family cannot afford to come will surly hurt them. We are the ones that spend the money even if we do not have it thinking we may never get to come back. I know we acted like that our first year. BUT. come on. There are just the few of us on the boards that even know about discounts. i have spread the word so many times about the boards to people who booked the vacation thru Disney and knew nothing of a discount. Not many use them or even know about them. SO Disney is not loosing out. They are getting full price on food, hotel, tickets, to those who know nothing about a discount. Last DEC on several of our buses there were at least 10 in the area we sat in on every trip that know nothing about any of the discounts. It is a very expensive vacation no matter how you add it up. We noticed that Disney has slacked on the up keep of the property, painting mainly, and if they keep that up the wealthy as you call yourself's are not going to want to come to a place like that. I thought I saw on TV that at night they did all the painting maintenace cleanup etc. EVERY night. I have gone 3 years in a row and on the Small World ride the same scuffs and non painted surfaces were still there 3 years later . The floor on the Great Movie ride along the buildings are the dirtiest filthiest things and all it would take is a CM to go in at night and sweep. So until Disney can spiffy up the property I do not think they have any right to raise prices. Food there is just plain not worth what they are charging and it is plain as well. We all know this but pay it anyway. I am waiting until my grandkids now 11 mths and 2 can go in about 2 years. I guess I better save up twice as much and hope there are some sort of discounts as if not my daughters and their families may not be able to come and they have very good jobs. This is all in my opinion and actual knowledge on some of this.

I, for one, am somewhat excited about this. Obviously, I hope the park admission tickets don't start to skyrocket (I mean, honestly, how much more can a 1-day ticket be???)

However, having purchased a DVC membership, I get frustrated with all the discounts offered to "regular" visitors and my not getting even a 10% discount off of, say, the dining plan. (Yes, yes, I know, I get "locked in" prices at the DVC resorts and get $100 off an AP, but it would be nice to get a bone such as a moderate discount off of the DDP... I'm not even asking for it for free... just a slight discount would make me happy!)

I also wonder if the deep discounts they've offered over the past few years resulted in the parks being WAY overcrowded and it being next to impossible to secure decent dinner reservations. I read, a while back, that a lot of the people who were taking advantage of the discounted packages (for example, the free dining plan), weren't "rabid" Disney fans; rather, they were people looking for a deal during these downturned times. As such, these folks would come in to the parks, take advantage of their free dining, etc., but wouldn't buy a lot (if any) of the gifts / souvenirs since they weren't loyal to the Disney brand.

OK; I'm done with my soap-boxing! Just my thoughts!

Ah, yes! But, have you ever noticed the poor quality of bus service from the value resorts? do you think that is accidental? WDW doesn't mind your money for hotel space, but please keep out of the way of the paying customers, thank you.

Actually, I completely disagree with you. My husband and I are DVC members and last year we stayed at POP and it had better bus service than some of the DVC resorts we have stayed at. :D

In case you need to know we have been to WDW 11 times and have stayed at AKL, CBR, WL, SSR, OKW, BWV, AKLV, POP, and BLT.

Completely agree. Bus service at the Grand Floridian is bad (Hollywood Studios isn't bad). 3 separate resorts to stop at. Bus service at the All-Stars isn't good, but POP is excellent. After the new animation suites open, I expect that to change.

I wonder how much more expensive it can get for the 1-3 day tickets???
I mean, I understand the reasoning behind the highly discounted longer-stay tickets - Disney is trying to get us to stay on property for a long time.
However, what about people who can only get away for a weekend or a few days due to work or other obligations? I know I would be much more willing to make weekend trips down to Disney if the 3 day ticket (and even 1 day ticket) wasn't so darn expensive. I'm sure I'm not the only person who reasons like this.

This topic is great in the fact its amazing how fast things can change. The topic started on 5/11 and here it is 5/20 with a whole different perspective of world finances.

Today the world markets are taking a beating since 16 countries tied to the Euro are financially crushed. Not banks having a problem like in the US, but that actualy countries themselves in financial doubt. That in turns is doing the same to the world markets as when the US took its beating the last year or two.....that I simply don't see that its "coming back". Where?

Iger said the same thing about 6 months ago about the discounts going away, etc. Now that the financial world is crippled in basically all areas of the market, I just don't see how Disney can roll back anything anywhere other than concessions since its easier to gain money in small increments with scale.

Also, fuel prices are still creeping up to $3/gallon again. I got to believe that Disney is just trying to flex its muscles and tell the shareholders all is well. They get rid of discounts anytime soon and their already hurting occupancy levels will take a beating.
