OK, I came in late to this forum, but in all the posts I don't recall seeing the reason for the thread subject. Disney wants a certain number of reports to write reviews and comments on YOMD and the big prize, the Cinderella Castle Suite. If they granted him the stay, it would be like fixing the contest. It would also taint his review as he got it for free. So the fee is charged (although AP paid it, as would be customary). This is different from the times Disney opens itself to press events, as it is clearly stated a media event. The fact that the reporter shared his 'prize' with a worthy family is commendable, considering he probably slept on the pull out couch. I'm sure that if the suite is offered to guests after YOMD it will be much more expensive.
