YOAMD Biased?

Ok, I have no idea how the YOAMD prize selection works other than the randomly selected time and place. The back of my mind tells me that you're more likely to win a big prize, like a stay in the castle, if you are a typical family. Is there any validity to that completely unsubstantiated assumption?

Why do I care? I'm dying to win a stay in the castle but just don't think they would ever pick a group of college students.

Actually, several frat guys won it one time.

That's just what most people say because they don't like YOAMD.It's true that a Family will be more likely to win because of their size but the computer chooses all the big prizes so it's very possible for one person to win.Smaller things like pins and hats are just random.

Prizes of various types are awarded every day. Unfortunately, you just weren't in the right places at the right times. As previously stated, prizes are awarded in a completely random fashion. For the big prizes, Dream Squad Cast Members receive very specific instructions (the person sitting in the third seat in the second row of Star Tours at 11:38 a.m.) and will award the prize to that person, as long as he or she meets the eligibility rules. For smaller prizes (hats, lanyards), which are given out in bulk, the Dream Squad is assigned a random time and place (exit of Living with the Land at 12:34), and a certain number of these prizes to give out.

When not handing out prizes, the Dream Squad tends to blend in quite well, due to their very unobtrusive costumes.

That's not too surprising, Disney encompasses a lot of land and the odds that you're at the same place they are at the same time would be pretty slim.

I just got back on Saturday and saw TONS of people wearing the Dream Fastpasses, and my Little Brother pulled the Sword out of the Stone on Tuesday morning, and a Dream Squad woman gave him a certificate.

I went to Disneyland at the start of the YOAMD and it seemed like they had a much larger presence than at WDW. Maybe that is due to the size of the respective parks but at Disneyland it was like we could not get away from them. Everywhere we went there was the Dream Squad, getting of the tram, entering the parks, three of the attractions we went on, and one of the shows that we went to... oh yeah and we were only there for three days. I just spent a week at the World and did not see a single Dream Squad member, but I did see two or three families with the Dream Fastpasses... but that was it. I didn't see anybody wearing the ears, didn't see anybody with lanyards. It seemed like there wasn't really a whole lot going on for the YOAMD at the World, where as at Disneyland they are EVERYWHERE.

When we were there in December I saw quite a few Dream Fastpasses and actually some sets of ears too.

DH and I happened upon the Dream Squad when we were walking the Pangani Forest Trail at AK. They hung around for quite a bit but we didn't see them hand anything out. My husband wanted to wait and see who would get it, but we decided to leave.

I won a DFP at DL but had to give it back because I was still working for the company at the time. All in all, it's pretty strong on both sides of the states.

When i was there in December 2006, i saw alot of people with dream ears and fast passes. I also saw somebody win a large prize in the splash mountain area. I guess its right place right time. I did see the dream squad walking around alot too...

I agree completely. I went to DL in November and the dream squads were EVERYWHERE. My gf and I were awarded dream fastpasses in the Cue for It's Tough to be a Bug.

Let's put this in perspective.... I've been to WDW probably 7 or 8 times since YOAMD started, and I've never won anything. I've only been to DL once in my life (for just 2 days) and happened to win something while I was there. It was probably just a coincidence, but it sure did seem like the odds are stacked in your favor at DL.

My family has won a YOAMD prize twice actually. :D Over Labor Day 07 we won the lanyards at Test Track. They gave them to everyone in our "briefing room" before the ride. We were quite excited.

Then in October my daughter was in the correct seat at the right time on Rockin Roller Coaster. Two dream squad members were waiting when the limo pulled in and let us know she won 2 passes to Party for the Senses at Epcot. We had to sign a lot of paperwork and then while one squad member made copies the other one took us on Tower of Terror. We were also given coupons for 2 fast passes at Epcot since we were at MGM and the lines would be bad once we got to Epcot. Oh and a free ice cream. The dream squad was so wonderful to my daughter as well as my husband and I. They made the experience that much better.

My neighbors won the Dream Ears this summer while at Epcot. It is just complete luck. I have seen many people with the dream fast passes at all parks and have seen the squad members around the parks.

My DH and I were at WDW in October for 4 days and we saw many YOMD prizes. Fast passes, ears, Someone started the Lights camera action stunt spectacular. I do believe people who say it is completly random. Just be happy if you win, if not just be happy you are at WDW and not at home or at work. It amazes me how much people complain about this topic.
