Yeti spoilers.

Hi all,

This is aimed, rather irritatedly, at those members who currently have what I am presuming is the yeti in their avatars. From what I've seen of the yeti (i.e. his face and hand-in these particular people's avatars), he's a lightish brown colour. Granted, these particular pictures might not be of the yeti-but my current presumption is that they are.

Anyway, I was really trying to avoid seeing the yeti or anything from inside/on the ride of Everest. I'll be out in Florida in late late May and I was really trying to keep myself from seeing anything other than that little open area (the one where the Everest sign is, etc.) out in front. I've avoided reading any topic that could have references to the Everest ride etc. etc. etc.

Imagine my dismay then, when I saw (again, what I am presuming) the Yeti in certain people's avatars in completely innocuous (and non Everest related) threads and topics.

If you are one of the people who has a picture of the EE yeti (the actual one-the brown one) in their avatar, thanks a bunch. Much appreciated. You've probably ruined the "seeing the face of the yeti" (etc.) surprise for me.

If, however, what I think is the yeti turns out not to be, then that's ok! Ignore me and my crazed ramblings.

Yours,

I wanted it to be a total surprise, too, but in the end I looked at the Yeti pictures because these morons' avatars already ruined it. But I will NOT look at a video. I like surprises.

Pictures have been posted on the internet. Cast previews have happened. AP previews are this weekend. Soft openings start in a couple of weeks.

If you're not going to ride it until September you might as well block all avatars because I can assure you you will being a lot more of the yeti around here. People are concerned about not spoiling the surprise only until they have seen it... after that they have no more reason to be concerned.

By the time I get to WDW, I assure you the yeti will have been not only all over the internet but on billboards and tv as well. In fact, he will probably be old news. Be glad you get to see it soon.

In the meantime, if you are really worried about spoilers, it's probably best to avoid sites like this one, where things like this are routinely discussed.

I totally agree. I didn't want to see anything at all that was inside the mountain and some careless and selfish people post pictures without warnings and spoil it for everyone else.

Yes, I understand and I apologize... but how would you feel if you weren't fortunate enough to have experienced E:E yet and someone spoils the main surprise for you?

Spoilers are a simple fact of internet life. The only way to stay spoiler free in todays internet society is to stay off the web. I would highly suggest not visiting sites that are based on news rumors and insider information if your intent is to be completely surprised. Many of the members of this site, myself included, have been jumping out of their skin waiting for any fragment of news on EE so when pictures of the yeti hit the web it is no surprise that they were everywhere in a matter of hours. Also when you take into account that you will not be experiencing EE for yourself until a month after the official opening the only way you could remain 100% spoiler free is to cut yourself from society completely. Video of the yeti has already been on the news up here in Jacksonville Fl. I can only assume that the Orlando market is flooded with them. I can pretty much guarantee that seeing striped down pictures of the yeti in peoples avatars will not diminish the effect of seeing him up close and in person.

And be honest, how many threads started by yensid_1 did you click on with the hopes of seeing just a glimpse of our furry friend.

This is by no means meant to be disrespectful however if you were sooo against seeing the Yeti then why are you on this site? Did you think no one was going to talk about it or show it? If I absolutely did not want to see/know anything about the Yeti I would not be on this site viewing posts. Because the fact of the matter is the Yeti is EVERYWHERE, and like someone mentioned before it is a matter of time before his face is plastered all over the place. Also, what stops people from writing about him in non-EE posts? Someone could write something about EE in a post that is titled "crowds" or something. Would you be mad at them? What I am trying to say is that there are no guarentees on this site. You can't be absolutely assured that things are not going to leak out.
And also you mentioned in your post that you are seeing pictures of what you ASSUME is the Yeti. You don't really know until you have seen the Yeti, so don't worry it'll still be a surprise. And when you do see him for the first time I doubt "Oh my goodness I a SO mad I have already seen him!!!!" will be coming out of your mouth. I understand your angst but I can assure you this isn't the most serious thing you will ever encounter in your life.

WDWMAGIC is primarily a site about News and Rumors. To the core here, finding out things before they are released is the main reason for being here. If you dont want to be seeing/reading/hearing the latest, this site isnt probably the best place to be, as being behind on the latest news would make this site the total opposite to what I want it to be. :)

Having said all that, I dont think you seeing a postage stamp sized picture is going to affect things for you when you see the real 20ft, snarling monster from 2 feet away in real life.

Personally I like to see and know everything about an attraction before I ride it...especially when it is as huge as EE...eventually, you ride it, and then you ride again and again, until it becomes old news and the spiels are memorized, etc....my point is, by knowing everything about the attraction going in, you know what to expect and can enjoy the attraction more...that's just my opinion though.

Besides, everyone knows what the REAL Yeti looks like...and he's white...

Also Disney itself let the local news media film and show the Yeti in it's news broadcasts so it isn't like it is any kind of secret anymore. Not wanting to see it on this board would be the equivalent of trying to "not" find out who won the superbowl in a sports bar the day after the game.

In my opinion, seeing pictures here and actually riding the attraction are two very different experiences. It's like looking at photos of the Coliseum and saying you've been to Rome!
If you don't like spoilers, sites like this one aren't for you.

Actually, I've been avoiding EE news & rumours pages and threads since the previews began.

I was doing quite well too.

The most I've seen of EE is (obviously) the mountain and the area in front of the ride. That's likely all I will see though, as Disney don't advertise here :animwink:

Meanwhile, I love knowing what's inside attractions... I didn't ride ToT till I had read all about it. One of the reasons I'm really looking forward to working for Disney is that I'm gonna get to go behind the scenes. One of my favourite (one of-not my favourite!) WDW memories is walking through the Maelstrom after it had broken down. But I made a concious decision to try to ride EE without any previous knowledge. BELIEVE ME, it's been tempting to go and look at videos etc. of EE, but I've managed to avoid looking at any of the pictures/videos from previews etc. and, with the exception of the avatar pictures, still have no idea of what the inside of the mountain (or the ride!) looks like. Even Legacy's avatar is a definate plus because the long black "intro" before the quick flash of the yeti means that I can scroll down and away from view (or cover it with a hand!) before he flashes up. That's not possible with static avatar pictures of the yeti.

As for reading about the yeti/mountain, I don't mind that-and have been doing so very eagerly for the past few months. It's seeing him that I'm grumbly about.

That all being said, I take your points about a stamp sized image not ruining the 20ft monster's surprise (and am counting on this!) but do try to understand that I'm disappointed nonetheless after putting so much effort into remaining free of Yetiness!

I'll still be here on WDWMagic though, keeping up to date with the place (yay for the inferno barge being almost back!) even with the risk of seeing Mr. Y.

*shrugs*
Oh well.
