Yet Another Dining Plan Question

I am going to be using the Dining Plan when I go down to Disney and I understand that I get 1 sit-down meal, one quick service meal, and one snack each day. I am not exactly sure about how I go about using the plan. I understand that at dinner I give the waiter my card at the beginning of the meal (that is what I had read) but how does it work for snacks and quick service? Do you just tell the cashier when you are paying that you are on the dining plan and give them your card? For example, say I wanted to get an ice cream for my snack for the day. How would I go about using the dining plan (I am very paranoid that when I only want to use a snack that they will actually deduct my quick service meal or if I only want a quick service meal that they will deduct one of my sit-down meals). Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks.

I was curious to know the answer to this too, since I am going to be using the plan myself in September. However, I did a little searching and I found something that might be of help (and hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong.) Mousesavers.com has a disney dining plan brochure, and on the brochure it states that each time you get a meal or snack, the cashier is supposed to provide you with a receipt, showing the remaining balance.

If you go to Mousesavers.com, click on Disney World, then on Meals and Snacks, and scroll about halfway down to the section "Tips and Tricks for saving at the park" and the dining plan should be listed under it. Then go to the bottom of the dining plan paragraph and click on where it says to learn more about it. The brochure should be listed under a section in yellow (it might require adobe to open up)

Hope this helps!:)

Most folks will use thier "snack" option at the little carts in the parks. They even have little "DDP" logos on the items that count as snacks.

If you goto a quick service place for your snack, the cashier will ask if you're using the dining plan to pay when you give the card, and based on your food order, should know to use snack or quick-meal. Often, they'll be like "You know you get dessert, right?" to remind you ;)

ETA: The computer knows what counts for what - you can't use a sit down to cover a quick service, even though the sitdown would be more expensive. You cant use a quick service to cover a snack. It's kinda like a coupon that deducts a certain amount, and any remaining balance you have to pay - like if you had 1 quick service left, but bought 2 meals, the computer would say you stilled owed them XX dollars and ask for that payment.

Not old, just vintage.
THe best advice I can offer you to avoid any confusion is to just get all your snacks from carts instead of counter service places. Like merf said, there are little DDP logod next top which items you can have as a snack and the CM will just run your card and the snacks will be deducted from your account. The receipt states how many of each meal type you have left....it also gives you the count for the entire group, not just one person.

Example: Family of 4 staying for 5 nights.
Your receipt will intially say that you have 20 or each meal type. Every time you eat, that number should go down by 4...assuming you all eat that meal.

The meal plan really is very simple and eorth every penny (especially since anyone going at the end of this summer is getting it for free!!!!)
