Celebrations isn't so bad...actually kind of cute. Genius...everyone always celebrates everything. Reminds me of the Carvel commercial where they buy cakes for lost teeth, first day of school, etc.,

I do think it will come to a close right when the 40th anniversary mark will approach. Maybe they will do what they did for the 25th...flags all over, new music piped in and who could forget the moving pepto pink castle cake. (I really did love the 25th...was awesome.)

I think the Year of a Million Dreams will definitely end this year. Whenever Disney extends their celebrations for whatever time period, it usually ends after that one extension.

I read something similar. It'll be along the same lines as the "Magical Gatherings" campaign from a few years ago. Not necessarily a "celebration" like 100 Years of Magic or YOAMD, but more of a marketing campaign. Magical Gatherings was "It's great to visit WDW as a group!", the new one will be "It's great to visit WDW to celebrate a special occasion!"

Ahh, we are going 1 year too early to cash in on that! We heading to WDW this September in celebration of the DD's 16th birthday.

We were also interviewed (in full wedding regalia no less!) on camera and I will be curious to see where this footage ends up!

Cool! Maybe it will end up on the new Disney Vacation Planning DVD once they make a new one for next year.

I've, too read that the rumor will be "Magical Celebrations". Kind of a spin-off of Magical Gatherings I think.

Anyways, after DL's 50th (which was a huge celebration), they had to counter-act it somehow. (A medium celebration) I think the YoaMD did that well, and a lot of stuff was added to the park because of it.
Now, I'm guessing that they are laying low with this new one until our 40th comes around.

Maybe we should just call this one a "theme" for the resort.

I've also heard that the "Celebrations" promotions will still feature some of the Year of a Million Dreams giveaways like the Dream Fast Pass and the Castle Suite.

Every year does not have to be a celabration. Celebrations should be reserved for special years.(WDWs 25th, 2000,100 Years of Magic, DL's 50th etc.) It is painfully obvious that some higher ups (cough Rasulo cough)noticed that these celebrations drive attendance and after Disneyland's 50th ended they realised there was nothing to celebrate so they thought "Hey, Lets make up a celebration and shove it down everyones throats as if it actually meant something. Thus the Year of a Million Dreams which has turned into the two and a half years of a Million Dreams.

Celebrations are a marketing tactic to drive attendance. Always have been, always will be. They are NOT for Disney fans, or just about anyone that would visit a Disney message board. They are for the people that see the 'special' advertisements and decide 'wow, we should go!'

For me, there really is no need for Disney to have this kind of marketing campaign. What ever happend to going to Disney World because it was Disney World?!?! For heavens sake, Disney World should sell itself! Build quality, imersive attractions and provide an attractive, orderly environment and you don't need to have a flimsy fake celebration to bring people in.

I agree! Bring back the old ads that showed kids running and hugging Mickey, people riding BTMRR and laughing, and end it with Mickey standing on SE waving. Let the experience sell the product. Disney does not need a fake celebration to entice you to come. If they will show the public their product, they will come!

I think the YoaMD did that well, and a lot of stuff was added to the park because of it.

Attractions and shows aren't added due to marketing campaigns like YoaMD...these attractions were planned and developed for years, and would open whether or not there were ugly banners on the monorail :). The marketing provides a method for packaging attraction announcements to make them seem even more newsworthy. Nothing was added to any parks specifically because of YoaMD, they were finished in time to debut during the campaign.

My DH and I recently had a DFTVR that Disney marketing videotaped for this next campaign. We were also interviewed (in full wedding regalia no less!) on camera and I will be curious to see where this footage ends up!

BTW the VR was very cool - I will be putting together a TR very soon, as I just got the pix. We had a ceremony at the WP, a cocktail hour in the Tusker House, and then a plated dinner in FOTLK with the show performed! (Timon was not moving his mouth yet!)

Wow, very cool! I look forward to reading your TR! Congrats on your wedding :sohappy:

I think it would be nice if Disney continues to grant "dreams" as an everyday thing-no promotion tie-ins. I think it would just add a little something to the "magic". A little thing like a fastpass or ears would make me smile for days!

It is because we are fans that most of us hate YOAMD. It homaginises the parks and take away whats special about Real celebrations. We should of had a 18-month long celebration for Epcots 25th. Just because we are fans does not mean we should worship every move we make. Then we defend mediocrity.
