Yachtsman Steakhouse

I've attempted to get an ADR for Le Cellier in December and have been unsuccessful. I have an ADR for Yachstman but have some questions.

I've heard very varying things on the Yachtsman Steakhouse. Are the food and service good? Is it worth 2 dining credits?

Crush Dude!

Back from WDW!Counting down to DLP in November!
Eating there in 9 weeks and have heard great things about it

Love Le Cellier, but the cuts of meat at Yachtsman look AMAZING :slurp:

Im a HUGE Advocate of the Yachtsman..

I gladly use the 2 credits...service is superb, steaks are monsters, ceaser salad was fantastic..I ALWAYS schedule this into our trips the entire family enjoys it..my daughter tried the cheese sampling..was entertaining to say the least...

They were running about 20 minutes behind schedule this past January but it didnt bother us...takes a while to eat there...enjoy!

Devil's advocate. Ate there twice last September and didn't find it worth the hype at all. It's an okay steak, not overly fabulous, premium, or noteworthy. Our socks weren't knocked off or anything like that. Service was great both visits. Personally I think 2 credits can be better utilized elsewhere but I realize I'm in the minority. At the very least, if you've never eaten there before it may be worthwhile to you to give it a shot. That way you won't be curious about it anymore. Right?

Out of curiosity, where would you suggest? I've already booked the following signature dining Yachtsman, Jiko and California Grill. I also have Wolfgang Puck Cafe, Ohana (breakfast and dinner), Chef Mickey's (breakfast), Mama Melrose and several others.

I have been to both and, while both have their merits, we like the Yachtsman's food a bit better. The atmosphere is very different from Le Cellier as is the style of food (more upscale if you wish).

We have never done the dining plan, but we are willing to pay cash once again to eat there.

No idea what your preferences are so hard to make recommendations. Also depends if it's free dining or not. Part of my overall experience factors in cost. If I've paid a large amount for something (out of pocket or paid dining plan) I better walk away feeling satisfied for that amount of money or I'll be PO'd. The steaks we had both visits are almost worth the gratuity but certainly not the menu price or 2 days worth of paid dining plan credits.

The only other restaurant I enjoyed more of the signatures we've had was at the Brown Derby but that was 4 years ago and it was the part of the Lunch with an Imagineer. Each course served was amazing and exceeded my expectations. I have no idea if the food is still recommend-able and that experience isn't one you can use dining credits for. It is worth noting that there aren't many restaurants at WDW that impress us anymore. Very few serve food we walk away from feeling like we just had something exceptional. It's usually a skewed scale.

If I had to name 2 alternatives off the top of my head that I can say without a doubt were better food experiences for us, places I would opt to spend my 2 credits vs. The Yachtsman I'd go with Le Chefs & Via Napoli. I think I'd also go to Beaches & Creams before the Yachtsman. These places deliver what they tout as their "thing" better, IMO. Le Chefs does rich French food pretty well. Via Napoli serves an excellent flat bread & tiramisu. Beaches & Creams does a good burger/fries/ice cream/soda shop experience. The Yachtsman steaks were good, not great, nothing exceptional or outstanding to set them apart as superior or "signature". Again, it's all subjective because anything you eat at Disney is compared to what? The standard counter service burger on property? Doesn't take much to beat that, right?

We are with sweetpee_1993 on this one. When we ate there last year, the service was fine, but the steaks were nothing to rave about. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day, but all 6 adults agreed that we had much better steaks at other WDW restauarants. 5 of us had the filet mignon, and we were really expecting much better.

For a 2 credit signature dining, I would highly recommend either California Grill or Jiko. We have eaten at both multiple times, and we have had a great steak every time. The only better steaks have been at Shula's and V & As, but they aren't part of the dining plan (we use TIW, never DDP).

We visited last year, both of us had New York Strip and enjoyed it very much, the service and food were both excellent.

On the strength of this we went again last month, all three of us had filet mignon as a change. Two of them were fine, although not outstanding. The third was disgraceful, very small with a thick seam of fat through it. It had been ordered medium rare, as had all three and whilst the two good ones were cooked medium rare, the third was most definately rare. My daughter refused to complain, but didn't eat it and was very disappointed - back at the hotel we sat on the balcony with chips and wine.

Had we not been on the Dining Plan I would have insisted on sending it back, even though my daughter is convinced her food will be spat in if she complains! Having said that, had we not been on the Dining Plan I wonder if the steak would have been better? Do they save 'duff' cuts for the DDP paupers? I wonder.

Service this year was not as good as last year, I don't like the 'lick your boots for good tip ma'am' approach. We definately felt the waiter thought DDP customers were 2nd best - or 3rd.

We will not be going to Yachtsman again. We had better food almost everywhere else we ate, particularly California Grill, also Rose and Crown and in fact even the roast sirloin at Crystal Palace was far nicer. We plan to try Captain's Grill next time. Of course, nowhere is perefact and personal taste differs greatly, I'll try anything once.

No, it's not a DDP thing. We paid out of pocket utilizing the TiW discount. We found our steaks to be overly fatty and a few had substantial grissle. Marbeling is good because it lends flavor, moisture, and texture. 1/4 to 1/3 of your steak should not be fat & grissle. One of the medium rare steaks was served ice cold and bluish in color in the center. For my brother & hubby to turn their noses to a bleeding steak is pretty bad. At $350 for a party of 5 after 20% is deducted the cuts of meat and correct cooking shouldn't be an issue. We also had hoped it was an off night. That's why we gave it a second chance by invitation of the manager. The service was consistant (almost too good as the other poster mentioned because at some point you want the poor guy to stop trying so hard because you're feeling patronized), the steaks were cooked correctly, but the cuts/quality of the meat still fell quite short. Like I said, we were guests of the manager. The staff knew this. If we got the best they had (we ordered according to the recommendations of our server), well, that said all there is for us to know. Not being mean. That was our experience.

Bright spots, however, were the very interesting sweet potato beignets and the yummy white sangrias. I would go just to enjoy those sangrias. Yuuuuuummmmmm!

I heard that they're not giving out le Cellier reservations till after mid July because of the CP packages. Once they release those they should accept regular reservations. So maybe book yachtsman then wait and see for le Cellier? I'm in the same boat for early December and I'm freaking out, I want le Cellier so bad!!!

have eaten at le cellier quite a few times, and yes it is good. BUT, i don't think its the to die for dinner in Disney. (in my opinion) I've never had a bad experience there and always enjoyed my food, service, etc, but there are so many other good places that don't have the same buzz. That said, we will be dining at the Yachtsman and not Le Cellier this August. we chose Citricos for our long weekend over Thanksgiving too. They have a fantastic filet as well. Might even be better (again, in my opinion) when its all said and done, you won't be disappointed at any.:slurp:

CP packages? What are those?

Could that also have something to do with Coral Reef being unavailable?

EDIT: Candlelight Processional....I figured it out myself...lol
