Wyndahm Palace or Value Resort?

I'm heading down to WDW the week of April 12th & that's still the "high" season for Disney hotel rates.

I see on Expedia where I can get the Wyndahm Palace across from DTD for essentially the same price as a Disney value resort (All Star, etc.). Would anyone recommend this? The hotel looks nice from the pictures, but I've never stayed there. Also, how "close" is that walk to DTD? Sometimes those "short walk away" descriptions turn out to be quite a hike.

Also, do the buses from DTD not run directly to the parks?

Your thoughts? Thanks..

I would suggest staying at Disney's Value Resorts. They're very nice. I have stayed at all of the All-Star Resorts and it was fine.

By the way, what does: "IMHO" stand for?

That's a GREAT deal for the Wyndham Palace. It's right across the street (Buena Vista Drive) from DTD and yes, it's a very short walk.

The Wyndham has a bus service to the parks provided by the Hotel Plaza Blvd. Bus System. It works very well!

The Hotel Plaza Blvd. Buses have a fixed route and the hotels are picked up in the following order:

1. Wyndham Palace
2. Hilton
3. Holiday Inn (Former Courtyard by Marriott)
4. Royal Plaza
5. Doubletree
6. Lake Buena Vista
7. Grosvenor

And, by the way, the Wyndham Palace is a WDW on-site resort!

Almost forgot, the WDW DTD buses do not run to any of the parks.

For around the same price, I'd strongly recommend the All-Star Resorts. There's something to be said for the whole experience of going to WDW and staying at a Diseny Resort, as opposed to another non-Disney hotel (even if it's on-site). Take advantage of the transportation, theming, and all the details Disney is famous for treating it's guests to.

One thing to check into before making your decision - it may be the case that not all LBV hotels offer early admission to the parks. If you plan to take advantage of Early Entry, Wyndham may not be for you - but look into this.

I've stayed at both. Wyndham is a nicer hotel than any of the Disney value resorts. It is 'off the property', but had bus service to the parks in the morning and back after closing when I stayed there in 2001. You can walk to the bus stop at the DTD Marketplace in about 10 minutes and use the Disney busses to go to all of the parks. Disney Transportation is free if you have a Hopper pass, but I've never seen a bus driver ask anyone to see a pass. I liked staying at Wyndham, since we end up at DTD most nights anyway(we are without kids;) ), and don't mind the short walk from there to the hotel. Also, if you take a Disney bus from the parks to Disney Institute and get off at the first stop on Institute grounds, you can walk from there as well although it's a bit further. Hope this helps:animwink:

I don't think Disney Institute exists anymore. It is re-openeing soon as a DVC Resort, if it hasn't already. So, there's a chance it could be closed and there'd be no access.

Well, if the DI is closed, dont get on a bus to there. It might take you to....The Twilight Zone! Thanks for the info though. Get on the DTD busses and walk from the Marketplace stop to Wyndham Palace. Enjoy.

In any other city I'd say take that awesome rate on the Wyndham, but when given a choice between Disney and non-Disney, I have to say go Disney!!! All-Stars are still Disney, even if they are value---you can't find that magic anywhere else.

No question here - Stay at the All Stars. I've stayed at all 3, and though the rooms are small, it is still Disney. No matter how nice the Wyndham may be - It's not Disney.

It's SO true. There is no price tag on staying "on site". Being surronded by Disney magic 24-7, is what makes the trip what it is.

Enough so that my GF's mother owns a time share about 5 minutes from Disney. We're going in September and I REFUSED to stay there.

There's nothing that beats staying on site.

How is the bus service from Wyndham? Is it as efficient as Disney Bus Service (and yeah I know Disney buses can be slow from time to time)? But that's a BIG thing to consider as well.

I guess alot depends on how important a fancy hotel is for you. For me, the All Stars are just fine. They're crystal clean, fun, inviting, and have so much Disney that they're hard to bear for the price. Also, I don't spend much time at the hotel, so that's another thing to consider.

Personally, that's why I always stay at the All Star's. They offer all the Disney benefits, for a decent price.

My advice is to go with the Wyndham Palace. I love staying at Disney resorts as much as the next Disney fan, but if you're looking at a choice between a value resort and the Wyndham, the amenities at the Wyndham are far better than what you'll find at a value resort. It really offers a lot. Also, you will be literally across the street from both Downtown Disney and the Downtown Disny bus stop, making those evening visits to the marketplace, Pleasure Island and West Side very easy! The Wyndham has LOTS more on-site dining options than the value resorts, too - and it's close to many other area restaurants. I like food courts as much as anyone else, but they get old real fast.

The bus system that services the hotels is efficient and reliable, as long as you remember that the buses pick up hotel guests at a quarter to and a quarter after the hour at the parks. When you're ready to go back to your hotel, be at the appointed bus space on time, and you'll have a smooth ride back.

Whatever you decide, have a great time!:)

Thanks for all the replies & things to think about!

It was a tough decision, but I've decided to go with the Wyndham. I think the proximity to DTD & the additional amenities (balcony, nicer pools, health club, etc.) were what sold me on it. It'll be interesting to see if that lack of Disney magic detracts from the experience, but I'm looking forward to spending some time at DTD, the one area of WDW I've never explored in detail.

Again, thanks for the info. I'll try to post when I get back & let you all know if I think I made the right decision.

Hotel choice

You've made a good choice for this particular visit, but you should plan a stay at a Disney resort in the future. The theming and details make for a more immersive and "magical" overall experience, and there are some discounts available that should make it affordable at the right time of year. The moderate resorts are great!

Funny you should mention the moderates because I was originally hoping to stay at Coronado Springs. I've stayed there before & liked it very much, but the rates here at Easter (even with a AAA discount) were considerably higher than the Wyndahm or value resorts. I hope to return to a moderate someday, but I'll try something new in the meantime.

By the way, if anyone is interested, I booked my room at the Wyndahm on their website. Their "webrates" are the same as what is offered on Expedia, but the nice thing is you can pick your room preferences on there (king vs. two queens, location, etc.). FYI...

thanks...

I would take a Value resort any day of the week. Even though it might now sound as nice as the Wyndham, I can't stand staying off property, even at the DTD resorts. To me it just takes away from the whole experience.

The Wyndham Palace is an on-site resort, therefore you are not "staying off property".
