Wyndahm Palace or Value Resort?

I'm heading down to WDW the week of April 12th & that's still the "high" season for Disney hotel rates.

I see on Expedia where I can get the Wyndahm Palace across from DTD for essentially the same price as a Disney value resort (All Star, etc.). Would anyone recommend this? The hotel looks nice from the pictures, but I've never stayed there. Also, how "close" is that walk to DTD? Sometimes those "short walk away" descriptions turn out to be quite a hike.

Also, do the buses from DTD not run directly to the parks?

Your thoughts? Thanks..

The Wyndhum is an AWESOME hotel, it is very plush. If you can request a DTD view room do it, If you are in a tower room you can see Epcot and MGM pretty clearly. I could sit on my balcony on the 24th floor and watch illuminations. I have stayed there 5 times( I always try to stay at a Disney Moderate or Deluxe but sometimes they are full and I stay at the Palace. I have been lucky using "hotwire" and made an educated guess that the "nameless" hotel was the Palace and I have stayed there as cheap as $79 a night! I also got to see and meet several imagineers December 02 when they threw an Imagineer birthday party at a banquet hall there. They have several restaurants- avoid Outback and try Arthur's 27,pricey but very decadent.

No - I agree with you. I won't stay at a Downtown Disney Hotel either.

To me, it's not an on site hotel if you don't have a Disney gift shop.

LIke I said, my girlfriend's mother has a time share about 5 minutes away. I could've stayed there for the week for free. No doing. It's not a trip to Disney for me unless I'm on site.

The Downtown Disney hotels HAVE Disney gift shops.:)

Don't get me wrong, now - I said before that my favorite resort ANYWHERE is Port Orleans French Quarter, and I love the Disney hotels! BUT - the question here was which is the better value, considering that the room rate was equivalent - a Disney value resort, or the Wyndham. The Wyndham still gets my vote in that instance. ANd there's PLENTY of Disney magic to be had right across the street!

Have a great time, and post some pictures when you return!
