You really cannot compare cocaine or LSD to alcohol... I just wanna throw that out there... I know the conversation/argument is over, but it really cannot be...

I mean I'm not gonna say I don't drink a lot... and I'm not going to say I haven't made stupid decisions when I've been under the influence (nothing extreme like driving, or... well nothing outrageous, I just mean I've had my share of "funny" stories the next morning...) but... I've seen people who have been on some heavy stuff... I've seen them on it, and I've seen them coming down from it... they're entirely different things... a) I'm 21 so alcohol isn't illegal for me anyways, but drugs are much more punishable nontheless to be caught in the possession of... b) if you don't abuse alcohol (which I don't, never will... haven't drank in several weeks because the work picked up and its time to get serious), it is not going to be as bad as the said cocaine or LSD is... Drugs are illegal for a reason... and are much much more serious

I'm not saying alcohol is good for you... or is "cool"... so I'm glad someone like conor who is well under the age has such a strong opinion against it... but you have to understand that you shouldn't go comparing the two things when someone says they're... dissappointing and upset when they see people doing drugs... Alcohol, unfortunately, is a part of society

if you've never seen Requiem for a Dream... I HIGHLY reccommend it, its a FANTASTIC movie, and will really get you anti-drugs if you aren't (i imagine everyone here is), but its strong. Honestly Conor, I think I saw somewhere you said you're 16... not that you aren't old enough, but it is R and it is very very strong movie... I laid in bed for like an hour the first time I saw it just like "ohhhhhh my god..." It's heavy, may wanna wait a few years... but it is an AWESOME movie... difficult to watch as I said...

Well, I can do it if I want to, and I can also gain some support for the comparison. Both are mind altering substances, much more-so than most other material. Both can lead to problems down the road. Both impair basic motor skills, etc, etc, etc...

Yuo are legal, Michael is not.
I still don't necessarily "approve" of either situations, but regardless, those are the facts.

I'm sure you could go to any AA meeting and find testimony to alcohol's ability to addic... I am not imply that all who drink should be scolded, nor an I promoting a second prohibition, but I question the direction our culture has begun to take.

Even if it was, "cool" is often overrated.

Call me hard-headed, but I've set morals for myself, and I'll speak up about them...

Ah, and there is the point! I will not deny it is part of society, I question whether it should be!

I've heard of the book, but was not aware of the moive.
Either way, I'm not supposed to watch R-rated movies... :lookaroun

Hi.

Just to give my input... I see drugs and alcohol as pointless. I really see no purpose for them. They seem to be everywhere at my school, and all they succeed in doing is making people stupider.

But I go to a high school that is solely influenced on a surfing culture. What can you expect?

Not that I'm stereotyping or anything... :lookaroun

Conor I hope you know I wasn't trying to... attack you or your opinions at all... just stating my own, and I really am glad that you are so against it, that is good... I really am glad. Also, you (as in your age group... not you, just that age group... I certainly did when i was that age), but you will find out that "cool" is highly overrated... there is no such thing once you leave high school though because... "cool" is what you make it... not what society makes it, its actually probably the stupidest thing in the mankind of teenagers... makes a lot of people do a lot of stupidest things...

I'm sorry if you thought I was attacking your opinions, I was only defending Michael's point that you cannot compare cocaine to alcohol... I know people who were alcoholics... and they went and got help and have been sober for several years... It is a life altering thing and I'm proud of these people. Some of their decisions earlier in life affected me, so I do not take the matter lightly at all... however... if you know any crack addicts, its a much different situation, a much scarier situation... they cannot always get the help they need and in order to be helped the process is much deeper and intense...

look... the sake of my argument is... by saying alcohol and drugs are the same is... taking alcohol too seriously or taking drugs not serious enough... right now, I know its taking them both very seriously... however, you're going to get pressure when you reach high school, and definitely in college... if you drink, and you think its not so bad... I don't want you to think the same of drugs... I know you won't and I know you're going to say you won't... but I've seen it happen Conor, so don't tell me it can't...

the real gateway drug IS marijuana... but the gateway to marijuana is alcohol... because people have strongs thoughts against both, and then they drink and like it... and then they open up to more things... and it's just really... easy I should say to give in sometimes...

either way, I don't want you to think I was attacking you, I was impressed with your opinion... and I'm glad you have it

I gotta get back to this work... I need to prepare two more essays before bed or else I'll be in some trouble

A bit younger, actually.
However, I no longer mention my age, because apparently it voids my credibility...

i dont think it voids your credibility at all.. I think you have a lot of reasonable and valid points to make and your age has nothing to do with anything.. You are apparently a very smart and mature person....

and you do like me:p

From what I understand, the Grad Nite fireworks show is the old Fantasy in the Sky show. I saw it last year. The fireworks are accompanied by the popular music of today.

Here is a picture I took:
