Fanboys, this will blow you away...an early sound...camcorder footage shot in 1984 of the monorail heading from the TTC to EPCOT Center with narration by Jack Wagner! Includes almost the entire loop into EC but cuts off at the Land Pavilion. This video was just posted yesterday and is featured in HD. To skip all the scary 80s fashion go to 4:30 to see the monorail head into EPCOT Center. Enjoy!

Great vid! I love the narration! The emptiness is also amazing. And that ye olde control booth! :)

Nice view of Horizons, WoM, and at 6:21, that snippet of narration sounds very familiar nowadays. ;D

And no, I don't mind the 1980s fashion. In fact, I could wear it now if possible. :lookaroun

That is FANTASTIC!

LOVE how packed the Monorail to EC is. Nowadays it's never full....I think we are the only ones who ride it just to go to EPCOT.

FW looks fantastic. Sheeeeeeesh. Imagine if it looked like that today! SO SLEEK!:sohappy:

Wow, those Mark IV trains were tiny! And EPCOT Center in all its glory... wow... :o Little trees, Horizons, and what looks like a bench about every 10 feet in World Showcase. I guess those initial guest complaints about lack of benches were acted on.

Two things that really stood out to me. It REALLY needed a bit more foliage. The trees by WoM cracked me up...They looked like sticks. And Horizons...That building was massive! I really don't remember it like that. I remember the front view, but seeing it from a elevation, and from the side showed how big it was. Wow!

Well, it was only 2 years after park opening, so the smaller, less dense foliage was to be expected. :) Time has given us those bigger (and, sometimes, overgrown) trees now. I actually took the posters suggestion and played the '84 video alongside the '06 video he took. Its amazing how much the trees have grown in 22 years. Also interesting how much, in most ways, things have changed, yet have stayed the same...:o

I've got retro vids of the rides from '84 on TPR and youtube. Just look up mcjaco.

FYI: Camcorders were not around in 1984. Trust me and my shoulder that had to carry around the full VHS deck. :p

Cool, thanks for the link. The video is great. The Monorail front cabin on-board ride video to EPCOT is very smooth, great camera work!

:)What a great video. Can't beat the classics!! And is it just me or is there a hidden mickey on the bottom half of the screen? He disappears at around the 3:30 mark.

Oh I thought a camcorder could be a VHS recorder? We still have ours in our basement and as far as I know it works and I kinda want to take it to Epcot and record what things look like today but with an awesome 80s grain and saturated quality. :D We bought our VHS recorder in 1989 and still has some formeica panneling along the sides of it. :lookaroun

Man, I wish there were a way to jump right into that screen. Seeing the images of Horizons and World of Motion flow by made me sad. I miss those places terribly.

Here's a pic of the camera and the deck we had as kids.

Not a great shot. The actual VHS deck is in that silver bag, which you slung over your shoulder, and the camera is all folded up.

The first "camcorder" came out the same year, and was featured in Back to the Future (hello dandaman!).

Indeed.:o

Overgrown trees....:fork::lol:

And yes, the view of TL and JII is still very similar. Even UoE.:D

Great find, great upload on youtube!

Unfortuantely, and fortunately, I remember the days of the early 1980s at WDW.

And yes, I was shocked to see the massive techie upgrade when I sat in the front cabin with the pilot when I visited WDW in 2007, some 14 years from my previous visit.
