Wouldn't it kind of suck if...

Yes it would suck. But there is no point in worrying that it may or may not happen...like another poster said, it's an act of God.

Not an act of Mickey Mouse. It's like worrying about rain on your wedding day - yes it would totally suck but you can't prevent acts of God but you can prepare for them (travel insurance!)

I did say originally that the chances of it happening are rather slim, which is why I went with the "what if" question.

If only there were some organization that could offer travelers advanced warning or information on hurricanes and tropical storms that may impact their WDW vacations. That would be so helpful!

What? What is that you say? Really?

What kind of apology? None. Compensation? None. Not Disney's fault.

Although, this does remind me of a time when it was a rainy afternoon headed into the Magic Kingdom. We boarded the tram, and the cast member said "don't worry folks, Magic Kingdom has a magic dome around it. It's doesn't rain at the Magic Kingdom!"

Now, thinking back. It did rain that day at the Magic Kindgom... I'll be having my lawyers contact Disney.

Disney wouldn't give more than 5,000 people a free vacation because of an out of control act of nature... they can't stop the hurricane.

like i said after that, it doesn't need to be that drastic, but sending out an apology letter (more personable than email) would be a good move.

Apology for what? Sorry your vacation got screwed up due to a meterological disturbance you could literally have seen coming as much as a week away, yet you still decided to play the odds and come to Florida anyway?

if you have to be part of a mass evacuation then it wouldn't be that hard for disney to send out a mass apology to those affected by it. are you telling me you'd be mad at disney if they sent out an apology? it's not just a little bit of florida rain, it's a hurricane.

What does apologizing do though? That fixes nothing.

Does a piece of paper, or hearing "I'm sorry" change anything?

If you have to be part of a mass evacuation because you were there in the first place? No. They don't owe you anything.....

Exactly. If a hurricane did occur, they didn't bring it upon the guests, so why would they apologize? It would make sense to apologize if something THEY did ruined half of the guests' vacations... but Mother Nature is in nobody's hands.

As for a previous post, no a letter doesn't fix anything, but neither does a lot of stuff companies do when something happens. It's merely a way to show that the company doesn't think it's fine if their customers have to go through something bad (really, why else would sony give free games for a service that itself is free?).

Disney should not be required to apologies for an act of God...if they did what would they say, "umm, sorry, we couldn't control the weather (God??)" ?? Ridiculous...if you're worried take out travel insurance...otherwise, just accept it as another of life's adventures, thank God you are all safe and don't plan your vacation to Disney during hurricane season next time.

Exactly...Disney doesn't have to apologize for something that is completely 100% beyond their control. Guests may of course cancel their vacations if they wish and are subject to the refund policies according to any other reason. The only thing I could see them doing is letting you upgrade your current park tickets to non-experation at no extra charge so they will be good when/if you choose to return. Guests are more than welcome to stay and extra CMs are often scheduled to help "ride out the storm" at the hotel providing extra safety and help to any guests that need it. For example, at DAKL the huge glass window in the lobby poses a threat for leakage and/or breakage (only in seriously strong winds associated with a hurricane). Because of this, no guest is permitted on the bridge that crosses across the lobby. CMs must stay there all night and watch the bridge to ensure no one walks on it. They also often bring in characters to entertain the frightened children (and parents).

It is Disney's job to keep you safe and make the riding of the storm as easy and pain free as possible. Would it suck to get stuck there in a storm, yes. Does Disney owe you anything, not in my opinion.

You don't know much about running something the scale of WDW so what to you may not seem like much just to send out a letter actually takes a significant amount of resources.

This isthe dumbest thread yet....

That being said, DH and I flew down for a weekend getaway the year of hurricane Fran. We knew about her before we left, but the forecast was that she would skirt the coast, so we decided to go anyway. We checked into POR, had a quick dinner in the food court and went to our room to get ready to go for a swim. DH turned the TV on and heard them say how Fran was heading into Orlando, and that the airport would be closing by the next morning. Since we both had to work on Monday, we scrambled to make calls to book a flight out of Tampa the next morning - we had a rental car which we returned to the Tampa office for a fee. We laugh now, since we never even saw Orlando in the daylight that trip, but there's absolutely no way that we expected Disney to compensate or apologize to us, since it was nothing that they could control.

If a company errs, they make proper amends.

If some nimrod decides that he and his family is going to ignore the warnings, projections and inherent dangers associated with traveling to a hurricane zone, they don't deserve anything except the aforementioned kick in the .

And just what does Sony know about evacuating a theme park for a hurricane?

Son didn't say to the hackers, hey hack us, it's all good. But they still got their PR in line and did something in the end about it. I never said they can evacuate a park, but I guess the majority of people on here have managed to miss the month long saga of sony being hacked so they don't get the reference.

Or perhaps the comparison was simply that weak....
