Novels? What are these "novels" you speak of? The ship always looked Pearlesque, but I didn't realize there was a backstory where one turns into the other. I dunno... seems like a lame tie-in to me. Just update the ride. Use some forced perspective they love so much and give us the bloody Pearl.Don’t the novels flesh out that the Wicked Wench is the Black Pearl? Jack won it and it was his ship until it sank. Jack struck a deal with Davy Jones to resurrect it (which leads to the events of Dead Mans Chest) and he rechristened it the Black Pearl upon its rebirth.
New redhead > the old one. The whole auctioning off the old one thing was a dumb joke. Just like the pirates chasing after the women (it's much funnier the other way around). The new red is funny, badass, and a welcome sight around the park. It's so much nicer having a feisty adventurer type for little girls to look up to.
About the only thing I have an issue with is Jack Sparrow and that's only because of the terrible way Disney's treated Johnny Depp.
Insightful... truly. Sadly, never gonna happen. I think this belongs in the "What would I do if I owned Disney" thread. That's not the name of that thread, but a year ago or so I started a thread something like that. This would be a great addition to that thread. Realistically, not gonna happen. I think the ridership on the original version would be really low in comparison to the Shanghai version for a couple of reasons:Ideally I’d like to see them restore the original version of pirate’s to its rough, swashbuckling glory, and then build Shanghai’s version in the expansion pad behind the current version and call it “Jack Sparrow’s High-Seas Adventure.”
It’s crazy I know lol. The additions to the current version don’t do the movies justice, and simply muddle the original version of the ride. This leaves both camps upset. The purists want their original pirates back and the movie fans want to see the films better represented in a theme park attraction.
This would never happen but I feel like the current version, while very good, doesn’t quite satisfy the purists nor those who want to see the movies represented. It adds just enough from the movies to ruin it for the purists while still not adding quite enough to fully represent such great movies and make the film fans happy.
I actually remember that! It was still around in the 90s!Bring back the talking pirate bird that was once at the entrance of the ride that I remember from about the mid-70s.
Of course, without the auction scene but it's something I thought about. Most people nowadays will never experience how the ride originally was. It would be fantastic to be able to experience it in its original glory as much as possible. As someone who pretty much only knows the Jack Sparrow version, I always wanted to experience the original ride. I also am talking about all the POTC versions throughout the world, except Shanghai of course.
In a way, I'm surprised Disney has never embraced this idea.
Like Disney care what the guests wantIf Disney wanted people to see the original version, they would have never changed it in the first place.

Apparently he created a bottleneck wherever he was. He initially was at the unload station, but that created a bottleneck with people stopping to watch him instead of going up the ramp. To solve this, they moved him to the front entrance, but that caused a bottleneck with people stopping to watch him instead of joining the queue. They decided to move him to one of the Disney stores before eventually scrapping him altogether. They should bring him back but put him in the queue itself or even at the very beginning or end of the ride. Put him somewhere that people are forced to keep moving so no more bottlenecks will form!I wonder why they removed it.
Not a bad idea. It could be like Potato HeadApparently he created a bottleneck wherever he was. Yup. Also, the original ride would be almost 50 years old.If Disney wanted people to see the original version, they would have never changed it in the first place.
This. I've experienced the pre-Jack version at both MK and DL, and the reality is Jack doesn't really change the ride much. Certainly not the feel of it. Removing the redhead was more of an impact than sticking Jack in a barrel and crap like that. With Jack Sparrow you have to remember this was a hugely popular movie when it came out, as were the sequels. Although they weren't as well reviewed. But if you never went on this ride you would be expecting to see Jack Sparrow there. At least in some form. He is in there enough but not too much that it takes away from the original ride. The mood is still basically the same.
Change can be good, but it can also be bad. Depends on why the change came about. Did something need to be changed or was the change shoehorned in to placate some phantom need.Yup. Also, the original ride would be almost 50 years old.
Change is good. Change keeps things fresh, it allows new generations to have links to the experience.
