Would you split World Showcase from Future World ????

Hm, i had a somewhat similar idea to this, though it didn't involve splitting the two pre-existing parks into two (which would IMO be foolish and an obvious attempt at getting more park admission money). At this stage, people expect Epcot to have both Future World and World Showcase.

No, my idea would have to involve some sort of time travel to ever happen since it goes back to before they'd finalized the plan. It's a two tiered plan. I'd have redone the concepts of Epcot from scratch and not ever included World Showcase in the plan. Only Future World, and have that concept a much larger scale than it presently is. More attractions that would be more in-tune with what Walt had in mind. But just more content overall. For as large as Future World is, there's just not a huge amount of things that i like to do there (especially now with several major changes and closings since the 90's). Since this would involve not having World Showcase, i'd just drop the Future World subtitle and name the entire place Epcot (that name makes little sense when you include World Showcase anyways, it only works for Future World). Would call for a new night time show with a technology theme.

Before you tar and feather me, know that i absolutely LOVE World Showcase and would not want WDW without it. No, the second part of my plan would be to build a dedicated park for World Showcase. Having a second park would dedicate more space for more countries and attractions. Westcot's concepts would have worked nicely, to have regions instead of just individual countries (though maybe not). Reflections of Earth would still fit with that theme. Now this you will probably tar and feather me for, but i could potentially do without Hollywood Studios if World Showcase saw its full potential in a dedicated park.:lookaroun Not that there's not room for a 5th gate anyways though, so whatever (who would complain having both?).

But yeah, won't work out now as they'll never be able to split the two parks up effectively without appearing blatantly greedy. And if they just split the two halves up, i would say absolutely no. That is, unless they truly did redesign both aspects in the way i had in mind (which will never happen). It would have been a very cool concept to have had two parks from the beginning though, with more space dedicated to each half of Epcot.

Well, it seems like two parks with Future World in the front and World Showcase all around the backside. I'd love to see new additions to both areas, but have always loved it the way it is now.

I'd have built it as a double wheel, Future World in the middle, and World Showcase surrounding it instead of the moat. Why? Because both chapters of Epcot are just too long to enjoy in one day. You could cover more ground this way, and make the geosphere the centerpiece.

NO, I'd fix Future World attractions and bring back World of Motion and get the music back that originally was there. I'd get the characters back that use to represent the countries in World Showcase and have each country should have an attraction and not just a movie to represent their country.

Separating Future World and World Showcase would be a bad idea because they correlate with each other to showcase culture and innovation.

Well, at least they did when the park was called EPCOT Center. :lookaroun

How is this even a topic of conversation? EPCOT and WS were originally supposed to be separate parks, but they decided that it'd work better to have them together.

C'mon people. And you call yourselves Disney fanatics...:animwink:

That would really take away from watching illuminations from any of the countries.

This isn't a dumb thread. I think people just misunderstood it.

The OP wasn't suggesting that Epcot should ever be ripped apart and put in difference places. I believe they were implying, that if it were ever the case, would it be worth it to have a park that is completely World Showcase (nothing but the countries and the cultural experience) and Future World (a park all about new technology and all of that good stuff). And if it were a good idea to have two theme parks themed to those specifics, what would you add to make it a worth while park. I don't think he was implying anything, just a little hypothetical thinking to have fun with, is all.

I think people assumed the OP was basically suggesting that they should build a wall between Future World and World Showcase, and charge separate admission. Which is not what he was implying.

No, because Future World and World showcase need each other despite what Future World turned into the last 10 to 13 years. Future World has strengths that are World Showcase weak points and World Showcase has strengths that are Future World's weak points.

World Showcase doesn't have the amount of rides after Future World does despite having films for Norway, Canada, United States, China, and France. World Showcase only has 2 rides. World Showcase is great for shopping, eating, drinking, and having live entertainment during the day. World showcase also has more table service restaurants than Future World does by a long shot.

Future World in rides is mixed bag though in the last 10 to 13 years. Spaceship earth doesn't have an ending, Imagination Pavilion needs to redone in terms of attractions, and Universe of energy also needs to updated. Test Track is a very good attraction and so it Soarin' in terms of attraction that were open and changed in the last 10 to 13 years.

The other thing with Future World is the fact Wonders of Life is no longer open.

For me, they wouldn't be "half day" parks if they were split up, even if nothing was added, because I consider Epcot a 2 day park now! ;).

Well, it doesn't take QUITE two days to do everything I want to do. If I did back-to-back days there, focusing on FW on one day and WS the next, there would certainly be some overlaps, and some favorites I'd get to do on both days.

But for me, it's a LOT closer to being a 2 day experience than a one day experience. (just as AK and Studios are AT LEAST full day parks for me, not "half day", because I like to thoroughly enjoy EVERYTHING they have to offer.)

For me, trying to cram the whole Epcot park into just one day would feel WAY too rushed. There is NO WAY you could, in just one day, do EVERY "official" attraction in both sections, see ALL the World Showcase live entertainment, view ALL the WS art galleries, ride the Friendship Boats around the lagoon, view ALL the self-guided Future World exhibits, savor the fish in the Living Seas main tank and smaller tanks, and watch the dolphin, fish feed, and manatee presentations. For me, the Seas pavillion alone can easily be a 2 hour experience! If I tried to do all of this in a day, it would feel ridiculously rushed and "commando mode".

On the other hand, by treating Epcot as a two day park, I get to do ALL of these things regularly, and at a comfortable, leisurely pace.

I wouldn't be in favor of splitting Epcot into two parks because, although radically different, the two halves of the park compliment each other nicely and are intended to be the yin for each other's yang.

That said, if they WERE considered two seperate parks, as others have said, the two sections would ironically be more likely to be expanded into more fully realized versions of what is there now, with more WS countries, "official" attractions for the countries that don't have one, and more Future World pavilions. And things like the complete shuttering of Wonders Of Life would be much less likely to happen.
