Okay... time for me to ask a very controversial question. Sort of.

I was recently reading up on the history of Hong Kong Disneyland when I came across a scrapped concept by the famous Tim Delaney titled, "Pirate's Land. It was a concept for a Pirates-themed land with a small Caribbean village, a dark ride, lagoon with a ship, and a new staging area for a Fantasmic! show. There was one attraction to this proposed land that managed to catch my eye. The main E-ticket was to be a boat ride, similar to Splash Mountain, that would take riders through various scenes like Pirates of the Caribbean and feature a huge drop at the end out of the mouth of a skull. The concept was scrapped at Hong Kong for expenses and cultural disputes, but my question for you is... if this idea were to be revived, would you like to see something like this replace the sub-par Magic Kingdom version of Pirates?

I know I'm talking about replacing a classic here, and it would be doubtful this would even be possible due to how close it would be to Splash, but if MK's Pirates were replaced with an upgraded Pirates ride like this, how many people would be in favor? It's just a fun question that got me thinking, especially with the hate the MK version of Pirates gets, I'm curious to see what the response to a version like this would be.

Nah. That concept art suits UNI more than the MK.

That being said, it sounds like a better proposal than replacing the MK Pirates with a 'where's Johnny' turned into Antique Roadshow of the Caribbean ride, as they have.

But Slash Mnt. uses the very same idea and Splash epitomizes MK:

water flume attraction with large detailed facade whereby boats/logs float causally past the crescendo, climatic drop strategically visible to all park guests who may not ride, complete with a splash zone and picture taking area. Instead of popping out of a stump(like Splash) we emerge out of a skull and then plummet into a briar patch..... oops I mean ship wreck I've seen this model employed at Universal, just like you indicated, with Dudley and Sea world's Atlantis too.

As to the OP's question, "yes"......sort of.

But not pirate themed, nor in MK. Studios needs one of these types of flume attraction but with a novel theme.

I always longed for Disney buying the rights to the original "Willy Wonka" movie and developing a ride based on that IP...taking a boat ride thru all the labs, animatronic oompa loompas, floating thru the chocolate river with piped in chocolate smellovision...with the ride emptying out into a store that sells Hershey's (sponsored by them) and ever lasting gob stoppers...

There was a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ride at Alton Towers here in the UK..

I don't want anything to replace the existing MK Pirates. It's a classic, in my view.

That concept art looks like the skull is vomiting out riders. Not good.

Living with the Land reminds me a little of the Willy Wonka boat ride from the movie. It has a boat, dark tunnel, whimsical touches (the methods of growing some of the plants), and the food. They have cocoa trees in there, right? :)

I think it would make for a pretty great attraction. My fear is that Universal would attempt it, and would make pretty much the whole ride a conveyor belt to move you from screen to screen like all of their other rides in the past 10 years. But I'm sure that Disney would do a great job (unless they just punted it, and did a meet and greet and flat ride, like they wanted to for Harry Potter -- I think that was just a move to buy it up and keep it away from Universal). You could certainly do a lot with a river ride with the psychedelic affects, and let guests out of the boat, and explore the candy gardens. Then obviously you have the biggest candy gift shop you've ever seen at the end.

Hong Kong pirates ride is incredible! Having said that, the one in MK is certainly a classic and I highly doubt Disney will take it out. Its ALWAYS the first ride we go on in MK and I've loved it since I was a kid.
