Would they have to close Spaceship Earth?

A couple of days ago my girlfriend was having a live chat on her Ipod touch in the gas station parking lot, a handheld technology that wasn't even displayed on the 94 Spaceship Earth. If they didn't receive the 2007 refurbishment would they just discontinue the ride?

I think he's making a comment on how the video chat screens depicted in the 1994 version of Spaceship Earth have today become a reality, and is wondering if the ride would have relevance if it were still running today without the recent refurb.

... I think.

To which my answer is... that's why the refurb was necessary, wasn't it? That's also, I would guess, why Imagineering went for a much more brief and cartoony version of the future as depicted on the touchscreens today. It is amazing how fast technology can develop.

Today as I was spending a good chunk of my paycheck at the gas pump I heard my girlfriend in the passenger seat talking like she was on the phone but her phone is totaled. I ask her what she was going and I see that she's doing a webcam chat on her Ipod touch with her best and all she said was... I get Wifi service here. Now if Spaceship Earth never received that 2007 overhaul would they be able to run it? I can barley get my Ovoo to respond perfectly and this chat was so clear and responsive like they show on spaceship Earth and the image on those screens weren't even as clear as the ipod image.

Video chat has been available before facetime, and been a dream before ike was president. the dream of it being a reality that everyone has it and uses it is still years away. if apple was able to make facetime available on 3g and edge, then it makes that scene look more dated.

And we so easily forget the WorldKey stations in Earth Station with video-chat dining reservations, an EPCOT Center opening day feature in 1982...

Xbox 360 is bad news for Project Tomorrow.

I'm dizzy from reading this thread.

My bad LOL

That was helpful :)

But we have things like Skype which is exactly what that scene was portraying.

Now that I think about it Spaceship Earth displayed a Skype that doesn't fowl up the computer.

Glad I'm not the only one. I felt like I was still feeling the effects of my drinks from last night trying to figure out what's going on.

Plus I'm pretty sure (I don't use it though, or have a desire to) my htc Evo has videochat that doesn't require wifi as the iphone does.

The original post makes me feel about 100 years old.

Did anyone understand that?

I'm 24 and well in touch with technology.

Poor sentence structure and unclear thought communication transcends generations.

I have no idea what the OP was saying.
