Would building Cars Land in DHS have fixed things?

Should Cars Land have been built in DHS, instead of what's currently happening now?

Thought I'd throw something out there. Imagine just how different it would have been if Cars Land was cloned in DHS, like rumors were indicating over 10 years ago. I wonder if we'd be dealing with a similar issue with another IP replacing the Rivers of America.

What do you all think? Would DHS and Magic Kingdom have been better off if Cars Land had been built alongside Toy Story Land and Galaxy's Edge? Would some thrilling E-Ticket have replaced the Rivers anyway?

I don't think the current management likes the idea of using space for something that doesn't sell Lightning Lanes. Don't get me wrong, I think Tom Sawyer Island gets way too much flack for not being crowded because it seems like it's not MEANT to be crowded (it becomes much less enjoyable that way), but the kind of mindset that considers that okay is gone.

So I think the river and island would have died anyway.

We probably would have dodged the idea of Cars on Frontierland, but with them seeming to be very against having anything fitting in there we probably would have had something else equally as incredibly stupid.

TSI has been fortunate to have remained untouched for this long. It’s unutilized area that Dis could be making more profitable. Don’t get me wrong, I love TSI as it is and hate to see it gone but Dis now works not on what guests care about but the bottom line of whether something is able to attract more guests and money.
Cars land could be better off in DHS and even if TSI is going extinct something better could go there. Rivers should stay as is.

I personally think Disney has been looking for a way to eliminate RoA since the alligator attack. Their decision was then made easier when the viral video was made of the person swimming in RoA. Put the two together, and Disney didn’t not want to be in the news with an alligator attack in the MK. I think no matter what, RoA and TSI were goners, even if Cars Land went to DHS.

From my understanding, TSI was on the chopping block for very similar reasons as pulling Song Of The South from Splash Mtn, and the original Natives scene from Pan. Certain words and phrases used in the Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn novels of racial nature which are problematic today, and Disney wanting to step far away from those elements. While it would have been simpler and cheaper for Disney to just change the name of the island to Frontier Island, Wilderness Isle, or similar, and only remove any references to the Tom and Huck stories, it would have been an unnecessary cost if there were bigger plans down the line to gut all of it with something more profitable.

I just realized I didn't answer the original question to this topic. lol I believe No, this area would be receiving a major overhaul regardless if Cars Land had been built years ago at the Studios. If they weren't cooking something big for the area, they would have invested the lesser expenditure with only name changes to the island and removal of Tom and Huck references only, while keeping it a wooded playground walkthrough like it currently is.

The river and TSI would be going either way. Plans have existed to remove both either fully or partially for over 20 years. If not Cars it would have been something else.

I'm curious why they didn't ever put something on the island to make people want to go (and spend money) there. When the company saw the island becoming less popular, they just seem to have abandoned it. I know there are access and maintenance issues, but I find it hard to believe that no one could come up with a ride or show that would have drawn people. Seems like a missed opportunity.

Agreed... A lovely table service restaurant would have been nice. They also could have built a drawbridge for pedestrians & supplies to go back and forth that went up when the river boat was going by. Such a shame to lose it in this way and I really do love CARS land in CA.

I'm surprised they never tried to make use of it for Halloween; I guess they would need to install lights, but the place has huge potential for creepy or even just a lot of treat trails with a couple character spots and a hint of "wooooo it's atmospheric!".

I said this as well. Why not a rotating rare meet and greet? I think this proves they just wanted to get rid of it. Disney can easily pour money into areas that have poor attendance but they choose not to so they can justify closing it or changing it. Look all the shuttered shops and gross food in Muppets court yard. Disney: “see no one goes there, let’s make it Monsters”. But you never gave people a reason to stay and explore beyond MV3D. It is all self-serving.

If you took the stuff that was closed/taken away in each land they "have" to close, you would be one ride away from what modern Disney considers a whole land!

- Ride, snack stand, and streetmosphere from Dino-Rama
- Two merchandise shops from Grand Avenue
- Quick service from Tom Sawyer Island

That's not why RoA is going. If that were the case, Disney would be working on moving the MK parking lot to Seven Seas Lagoon.

The removal of RoA in favor of "guest space" is because Disney realized that they've been sleeping on the capacity side of things and this side of the park is "bursting" at the seams crowd-wise. Also, they are avoiding building beyond the Railroad due to costs related to how much groundwork would be required to build there.

didn't stop them from building another park's spiritual equivalent of Space Mountain beyond the berm adjacent to the real Space Mountain

low-key should've developed and prepped the ground northwest of Big Thunder Mountain first before figuring out what to do with the eastern side of the park

Tron's addition didn't really make sense to me, at least not there, for the reason I bolded. I could convince myself that a computer technology pavilion at Epcot with the TRON Coaster would have made sense. Some people might think that's heresy, but look at what Epcot got instead.

To answer the original question though, I don't think it would have fixed anything. If they wanted the RoA gone, it would have been put out to pasture no matter what. It just would have been for something else.

Why oh why couldn't they have announced they were putting in Western River Expedition?
