working out for Disney

It's been another weekend of softball. I'm really shocked that we played when you consider all of the damage and destruction around us. Personally, I think the tournament should have been canceled. The bathrooms weren't working and all they had was one port-a-potty for several hundred people. We did at least get a pretty sunset last night and saw a lot of birds flocking south. This migration was happening all day. I'm guessing they got spooked and confused by the cold weather.

I'm struggling to get motivated to get back into anything fitness related. I was tempted to buy a new machine after a friend got a rower that he loves, but I've decided to go a different route. Rather than being so focused on it being a workout, I decided to buy something that will get me out of the house...walking...squatting, etc. that will also factor into summer vacation. I splurged on a lens for wildlife photography. So, I think I'm going to start taking nature walks to get used to it. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow.

I would love to learn more about photography. I do love taking pictures, especially of nature. I really miss mountains!! And I think going out walking is still good exercise...not everything has to be cardio or traditional strength training.

Your family makes lemonade out of lemons. I admire how you all rally to make the best of all circumstances -- whether it be overcoming weather problems, power outages, and everything else that's been put in your path, over this last challenging year for all of us. As the expressions goes, happiness comes from within. You're all an inspiration to me!

I really do try to find the good in things, especially with all of the challenges that have been going on. Ultimately, it helps keep me sane when I can find the positives.

I wish I had the time to really sit down and learn more myself. I know enough that I can justify shooting with an enthusiast level camera and am now understanding more about the lenses to use, but I really wish there was more time to work with it more before I'm thrust into travel situations. Still, I think nature walks will help do that for me this time around. I also plan to set up a chair in my backyard a couple days a week to start testing it with birding and small mammals. Now that we're warming back up, our cardinals and robins should be frequenting our yard. If we get a good clear night, I'm also going to get the tripod out and try to see what I can get. I've seen several people get great moon, planet and nebula shots with this lens setup. Oh...and I wish we had mountains! Nothing but flat here.

The lens arrived today. The extender is delayed a little because of the weather, but this is plenty to start experimenting.

Just for some perspective, I put it next to the little macro lens (that I really like...but totally different purpose) that I got for Christmas.

I am feeling excited and guilty all at the same time 🤣

I think the photography is a good idea. It's a great motivation to get out and find new places to take photos. It also looks like that hauling that lens around will count as strength training.

I haven't taken the new lens out on any nature walks just yet. I need to come up with a good way of discreetly transporting it before getting to points where I'd like to set up shop to take pictures. David made the comment that even if you don't know a ton about cameras, it looks like it could be pricey equipment and could make me a target. So, I think I'm going to carry a day pack when I start doing this so that I don't draw a ton of attention along the way.

I did sit out in the yard for a while yesterday to start getting a feel for it. I need to play more with my camera settings to boost its abilities and I need to work on arm strength to better steady it. I got some nice pictures, but I suspect they are softer because the arm steadiness required. Lots of people carry this one as a handheld vs. tripod mount, so I know it's very doable...but I have to adapt. Here's a little bit of what I got in the yard yesterday.

I was a decent ways away from my subjects. I was seated in a corner of my back yard. The robin was way over on the other side, and that squirrel was in a tree on the opposite side of my neighbor's front yard. So, it's got some decent reach and pretty good definition when cropping.

Hello-

Checking in with my workout. I have been doing some downloads I bought a while ago. I am trying to de-bulk my thighs, so I am not using any weights or kettlebells. I'd like to use some of my DVDs, but my DVD player and old TV are in the garage. I should probably move in the player into the house, but I don't know how and I am too lazy to figure it out. 😛 I've got plenty of workouts online or on my laptop to keep me busy until it's warm enough to workout there again.

I am hoping to get out for a walk tomorrow. It's going to be in the 50s and it was a bit warmer today, so I am hoping the snow melts. It's easier to walk when there is no snow on the sidewalks. It also that gross, dirty snow that is crusty and grainy. It's no longer the nice, fluffy, sound-muffling snow after a snowfall.

Wow! Great photos!!

About lugging around the big lens, maybe use a backpack when you go out. Easy way to carry the lens, and it's also a discreet way to hide it from view, when you're not using it.

Good morning. ☀️

Checking in with a 30 minute YouTube video, followed by a 10 minute mobility video. My workout yesterday was 80 minutes, so, I though I'd do a shorter workout today.

I have been trying to really reduce the amount of sugar I have been eating, but my husband keeps buying me sweets. He gives them to me knowing I don't want that temptation around me and says, "You don't have to eat them now." That's true, but if I know the candy is there, I have to rely on will power. My will power is mostly good, but it falters. It's better for me not to have that temptation around, period. I don't mind if he buys sweets for himself. I don't even mind if he eats candy in front of me. But it's a different story when I know there is a big of Cadbury's Easter eggs just waiting for me. He keeps doing it, despite me asking him to stop and I am starting to get angry with him. I am really frustrated that I don't feel like I am being heard, or that my requests are being respected. I am beginning to think he is trying to sabotage me, or something.

Anyway, today is supposed to be a warmer day, so I am going to get out for a stroll. :)

Take care. :)

EDIT: I meant "mini eggs", not those eggs that have that runny, tooth ache-inducing filling inside. I could stay away from those forever. These are egg shaped and have a crispy candy shell outside, not unlike M&Ms. But M&Ms are another candy I could stay away from forever.

I'm sorry he's not listening. Can you give the stuff to someone else so that it's not there to tempt you? Like to a neighbor with small children or something? Then if he asks you about it, you can just remind him that you asked him not to buy it for you, and that you didn't want the temptation, so you gave it to so-and-so. That might tell him that you're serious, plus he's not going to want to spend money to supply the neighborhood with sweets.

I didn't have to work today and the weather was gorgeous (about 66 degrees and sunny) so my daughter and I got out for a walk. I'm not feeling well today, though...I have a headache, and I feel kind of off. I hope I'm not coming down with something.

That's not an uncommon situation, that someone offers candy to a dieter. It may be that he innocently believes, that a few bites of chocolate won't derail the entire diet -- and he's doing what he thinks is nice.

Or, maybe on a more subliminal sabotage level (that he may not even realize, himself), he's afraid that you'll be even more attractive than you are now, and other guys might notice? ;)

Anyway, I think everyone should just respect your wishes to not offer you candy, until you give the go-ahead.

I hope you're feeling ok today and didn't come down with anything nasty.

I don't really know any of my neighbors! LOL It just makes me frustrated, because Saturday he got me a bag. I think all three of us finished it. But then he got me another bag on Tuesday. It's the worst time of the month for me to have chocolate in the house right now. Then, yesterday, he got a shipment of Cadbury's candy bars delivered. He came upstairs with a candy bar and he said, "You don't have to have this now." I lost it. I even swore--I used it as an adjective. It was not a command or any sort of insult. He took the candy bar away and he hasn't said anything about candy since then. I think he even ate it. So maybe the message has finally been received.

I do try to remind myself he is probably well-intentioned, but when my requests to stop go unheeded, I get angry. My weight has been creeping up on me since Christmas and I'd like to nip it in the bud. That means I've stopped baking cakes, cookies, loaves of banana bread and eating candy. I have been eating way too much sugar. It's not good for my health to be eating so much sugar.

My husband does eat a lot of candy, but I don't say anything to him about it. He is an adult and he can make his own informed choices. I wonder if he subconsciously feels he knows he eat a lot of candy and having someone else eat a lot of candy with him normalizes his behavior and makes him feel less worried/anxious/guilty about it? Who knows? LOL

Hello-

Checking in with my workout for the day.

I didn't go for a walk yesterday or today. My stomach was achy, so I am just taking it easy. I started taking collagen peptides for my joints on Monday and I am beginning to think my body doesn't like it (at least my stomach doesn't).

I got tickets to go this luminaria display at Longwood Gardens. We're going Sat. night. It's a memorial for the lives lost to Covid 19. They tried having it last month, but it was cancelled due to nasty weather. It was sold out by the time I heard about it. I got an email yesterday about it, so I jumped on it as soon I got it. It is supposed to be 55 on Sat, with some rain. But the luminaria are lit with LED lights, so they should be OK if it does rain.

I am starting my baguettes tonight. I have to make a poolish for the bread and let it ferment over night. It's been a while since I made them and it will keep me busy. :)

I hope the message has been received! I know I'm guilty of buying things for my husband as a treat, but his diabetes made a comeback in January. He hadn't needed meds since 2014, and now he's back on them and at a higher dose, so I've avoided buying sweets for him unless he asks me to. And my daughter said she wants to get back to healthier eating, too, so I've stopped buying things that will tempt her. If it's not there, she can't eat it. I hope your husband has finally listened.

OMG...I have no self control with those mini eggs. I do like the other ones too- especially the caramel filled variety, but the mini crunchy shelled eggs are like the potato chips of candy for me. It's funny...I like some flavors of M&Ms, but not the traditional milk chocolate. There's something about the flavor of the chocolate in them that gets to me. My goal is to make it past Easter without another Cadbury egg hitting my stomach!
