working out for Disney

Good morning-

Today was a 20 minute hiit workout that I found on YouTube. It wasn't a "follow along" workout, but one where you wrote down the exercises and did the workout on your own. I have a hiit/tabata timer app on my phone, so I set it up and went for it. What a sneaky, little workout. I started the workout thinking, "This is kind of weak." But then I made it to the last round and my legs were refusing to move as quickly as I wanted them to and my heart rate was really up there. I was giving myself little pep talks. :hilarious: I stretched for 10 minutes afterwards and it felt really good.

I ate so many carb-y things yesterday and then topped it off with 2 glasses of wine. I only wanted one, but my husband talked me into a second glass. So, today is a better food day. :)

It's going to be 75 today, so I am definitely getting out for a stroll.

Take care. 😃

My mom felt pretty entitled to do whatever she wanted. And I was so worried about her smoking in the apartment. I told her it wasn't allowed, I told her I could get a fine or even evicted if she was caught. She maintained that SHE was the mom, so SHE got to make the rules....even in MY home. And for all the bluster about accepting people as they were, she didn't accept what she considered wrong in her own home. If people weren't married, she wouldn't let them share a room in her house. Basically my mom just thought she should make the rules and everyone else should have to abide by it...and I guess that's how I see a lot of behavior now. People are too selfish to do what's right. They feel entitled to do what they want.

That's just crazy, but I have encountered people like that in my work life and it's really a challenge. That entitlement and double standard makes it nearly impossible.

I am laughing at your dog sleeping with you. Been there, done that. We once had three dogs sleeping with us. One of them was always moving. One would step on another accidentally and I'd hear snarling and snapping. One dog would want to get under the covers and when he got too hot, he'd step all over me trying to get out. The dog I had before I met my husband always wanted to sleep between my husband and me and he would growl at my husband if he tried to kiss me good night. My personal chaperone! The geriatric toy poodle would get too hot on the bed, jump off and then change his mind. Then he'd bark at you to either lift him up onto the bed or turn the light on for him. I used to sleep so much better in the summer, because they would want to stay in their beds on the floor because it was cooler. 🤣

I suspect it's some puppy pack related thing, where being as close to me as possible is like the comfort of being snuggled up against her littermates. It does become challenging because we play this game (when not trying to sleep) where she tries to attack the moving covers, which I can only imagine is her thinking that a small animal may be hiding under there. If I wake her up too much while trying to shift her around, she thinks the game has started.

I took a break yesterday. I was off from work and just had too much cake work to cover that I didn't feel like getting all sweaty. I did hit the gym this morning...15.62 miles, arms, stretching and a different approach to planking with my timing.

I finished the cake today, but we're going to wait until tomorrow for cake time. I did use some of the leftover batter to make a mini cake, just so she had something last night, but Grumpy Bear will be consumed tomorrow. I don't hate it, but I had some drying challenges with the rainbow and had to put it to the side vs. staked over the bear. His arms also fell off and I had to perform emergency surgery. 🤣

Well it looks really cute, anyway! Did you make the bear and rainbow out of fondant? Or is there cake in there, too?

It's so adorable. I like where the rainbow is placed. How long did it take you to decorate?

It's been so long since I've decorated a cake. My son won't eat artificial coloring, so I make plain cakes when I bake one. Otherwise, it's just my husband and I splitting an eight inch layer cake between us and that's too dangerous.

The rainbow is an interesting little story. It originally had a dowel affixed to the back and was mounted in the cake to be above the bear's head. It's been warm and humid here and I only had a day for it to set (which isn't enough in warm conditions), so it fell off the dowel...took out the bear's right arm for a second mending...and got some random colors on the cloud in the process that needed some white food coloring touch ups. I didn't work straight thru on this one. I started the bear's body on Tuesday, went back to finish him on Friday, made the rainbow and cloud, baked and frosted the cake on Friday, and covered the cake in fondant late Friday evening. Yesterday, I assembled it all and did the umbrella portion. The yellow on the cake is supposed to be a nod to Funshine Bear.

That is one of the pros of fondant...I've had people who don't do food coloring just peel it off and each the cake beneath it. Not sure what we're going to do with all of this cake, especially since I'm starting to turkey hoard, but some of it will be eaten.

You can't even tell you had weather issues, it's too cute. 😊

I once made the mistake of trying to make macarons while there was a hurricane just off of the coast. It was really humid and rainy and even though I put the tray of shells near the dehumidifier to dry, the tops never dried. So I had flat macarons, but they still tasted good.

I have only worked with fondant once and I just used it for heart cut outs for a Valentine's cake. It came out cute, but my husband asked cream cheese frosting, and that doesn't look as good on a decorated cake like buttercream frostings do.

Good morning-

Today was a leg day. Wow, I struggled with this one today. One circuit had "burpee, push up into jump tuck" as an exercise and there were 10 of them. 🤬 It took me forever to get through them, too. Anyway, I slowed down a bit because it was in a 7 minute circuit and I didn't want to have to do too many sets of them. I noticed they show up again in Friday's workout.:cautious:

We're still having the mid 70s weather, so I will definitely be getting out in that.

I'm still struggling with the time change, I swear. I have a harder time with the fall time change than the spring one. I'm waking up so early (3 AM) and I can't get back to sleep. So I have been getting up at 4-ish to sit under my light box for an hour and then I work out. The problem is, I struggle to stay up at night. I am going to have a cup of coffee at 5 and see if that helps me stay up later and then wake up later.

Take care. 🍁

I applaud the efforts of many here who attempt to work with things like fondants, etc. That's way beyond my kitchen skill set. ;) For the most part, I just buy sweet treats, but cut them down into small, individual serving sizes, and freeze them. When I really want something, I'll just take one out of the freezer. It's a trick that works for me, because if I leave, let's say, a whole cake in the frig, I'll always be temped to nibble on that without any self control. Out of sight, out of mind for me! :p

That is a good idea. I should do that when I bake a cake, because even a regular size cake is big for three people. It's hard when I open the fridge door and it's right there.

I do something similar with cookies, though. I'll make a big batch and freeze the cookie dough into cookies. I put them in a ziplock bag with baking directions written on them. Then someone wants cookies, the can pull a few out of the bag and bake them. I think the fact the are frozen and need to be baked reduces the chances of me getting crazy with cookies. :)

Good morning-

I was able to stay up later last night and didn't wake up at 3 AM, so I'll have another coffee in the late afternoon today.

I did a 30 minute hiit workout I found on YouTube. It was from a YouTuber I'd never tried before, I might look at her other hiit workouts. She's not obnoxious and she gets down to business and I like that.

I tried a delicious vegan coconut chickpea rice dish last night. It was good. I was hoping to have leftovers for lunch today, but my husband ate so much of it, there were none. But I will put this in my meal rotation for now. It was so quick and easy.

Today is the last day of the mid 70s weather until we go back to seasonal temps tomorrow. It was fun while it lasted, so I am getting out today. I wore shorts and a tank top on my walk and got sweaty--in November.

Take care. 🍁

That's part of why I like fondant. Most types of frostings work well as your base frosting under the fondant. I usually play with ratios if I want the frosting for decoration. Typically, increasing the sugar content will allow it to stiffen more and make it more suitable for piping. I've found cream cheese to be more dense and less prone to melting and losing form than butter, so it doesn't typically take as much added sugar to create a crusting or pipeable cream cheese frosting, but your recipe may call for different things/amounts.

Good morning.

I did an arms workout today. More burpees. I think when I finish this program in 2.5 weeks I am moving on. There is no need to put burpees in every workout--they're not even "just burpees." They are burpees with push ups, jump tucks, jumping onto benches, etc. It makes me long for "just burpees."

I was woken up at 3 AM by a cricket who was being a little extra. I guess he felt the urgency to find a lady cricket before the cold settles in for good. :hilarious: But he was so much louder than the others. My goodness.

My husband is off today, so I am hoping we can get out before the rain (and seasonal temps) move in today.

Have a good day. 🍁

I think my tracker is off or something. I rode my bike to the hospital (just routine blood draw for my diabetes) and back this morning, then later rode my bike to the Centrum to get a few things I needed, and walked through Centrum, rode my bike back, walked to the grocery store and back home, then stood there making dinner, etc....3 hours long that I didn't sit down at all, not even counting the bike ride to the hospital and back, and it still says I only did 2700 steps?? I can believe that for the steps, but only if it counts the biking somewhere else. But it didn't.

That doesn't make sense to me, either. Does your tracker pick up cycling as an activity?

My tracking devices don't pick up cycling. I haven't invested in a foot pod to allow it to properly read it, so if I want it to at least count the related steps, I have to loop my watch through my shoe laces or the bike pedal. It won't get all of the other metrics it would normally record, but it will factor the cycling into my daily step count.
