working out for Disney

Good evening-

I am checking in with a full body workout. I finished week 5 of this program today. I went for a stroll with my husband this afternoon.

I started using my light box a couple of days ago. I could tell by my food cravings and low mood it was time to start using it again. I have been using it for 45 minutes and I'll bump it up to 60 once the clock changes. Ugh, I am dreading the winter with this stupid pandemic. I'm kind of a homebody in the winter, but we sometimes go to museums, gardens, etc. We're going out for my birthday tomorrow. It's actually in December, but my husband refuses to dine indoors. We have an outdoor table and luckily, it's going to be in the upper 70s tomorrow.

Yeah...I saw the recent big numbers for the Netherlands on Worldometer. I guess it would seem that masks are an issue pretty much anywhere you live. They are still mandatory here, but many places aren't enforcing them, and many people have grown tired of it and just refuse. For our school district, masks are mandatory for anyone 10 or older (and are enforcing it), unless they have some kind of documented condition that would exempt them from the requirement. That's really tough having that many teachers. I get that the regular one is sick, but it would be nice if they had some consistency.

That's great that you can cross into Germany for those things. I see that Italy's numbers are also rising.
Well, A's school is a special education school. It's high school, but they have one teacher the whole day except for PE, Art, and Social Skills. They also have very small classes....only a maximum of 9 in a class. They try to cover any teacher absences with other teachers because the kids need the routine and they know those teachers. It's hard to bring in a sub who may not have any experience with kids with Autism and shove them in a class with 9 of them. So at least the teachers are known to them. For the last hour or so, A had his teacher from last year, who he really liked a lot, so he was happy about that. Still not ideal, but better than a completely unknown person.

We got another email yesterday that a student tested positive for Corona at E's school, and it's in the 3rd year HAVO class. My daughter is in 3rd year VWO, but has a couple of friends in 3rd year HAVO and lent her sweatshirt to one of them on Thursday. We know that's not the kid who tested positive because the email said the student in question hadn't been at school since Monday, but if it was someone in her immediate contacts, she's been exposed and then has also exposed E if she had it. But we know the positive case isn't someone who had direct contact with E at least. But yeah, if 80% of the kids refuse to wear a mask, and she's one of the few wearing them, it doesn't really help HER.

I'm wondering if borders are going to close again....*deep sigh* Yellowstone trip is not looking promising. Even if they DO have it contained and open up the borders before next Summer, I wouldn't have time to plan.

Still no working out. I'm still dealing with these sinus issues. I did go back to the dr yesterday. The good news, no cancer or other problems that could be causing my discomfort, but my scans and his camera (really bizarre looking at a live video of your innards 🤣 ), showed a fibroid. He said it's about the size of a golf ball, and while he doesn't think it's any danger to me, it could be the source of these issues as well as a few others. So, I am going to give it the next few months and see how I feel. If I'm still having issues, I could have him put me on meds, or I could talk to my other dr who would be the appropriate one to cover the fibroid and determine if it's treatment or surgery that's needed. Big fun!
Well yay for no Cancer or anything, but boo for the fibroid. I take it that is not a real dangerous thing? Annoying and uncomfortable, but not life threatening in any case? How long have you been dealing with it?

I think it started out like that, but then morphed into eating minimally processed foods (mostly). It's crazy, but before he started eating his way, he had really bad acne. His face has been clear ever since he adopted this way of eating. He eats a lot of fish, fruit and nuts.

That's funny about your son being a potato snaffler! 😂 I am like that when I get stomach junk. I can't eat the last meal I had. I last had a stomach virus 2 years ago and the last thing I ate was chili I made in the Instant Pot. I was so angry, I loved that chili. It was simple to make and was really healthy. I still can't think about eating it and my husband has been dropping some not-so-subtle hints about me making it again.
That's great that your son found a diet that works for him! How old was he when he started making his own food? We've tried to stimulate A with making food. So far he can make Rookworst (A "u"-shaped sausage kind of like a really thick hotdog) and he'll help with making his favorite food. But he's only 12, so he's not able to completely take over his own cooking.

I want to say he was 14. He started out just making frozen fish fillets from the super market. But as he became more confident, he started cooking things he saw on YouTube. He creates his own "masterpieces" that I can't even look at. He eats a lot of raw garlic, too. I used to make him open his bedroom windows to air out his room. 😷 It's a good thing he doesn't have a roommate at college. 😂

Good morning-

I did a quick jump rope and kettlebell workout this AM. I am so hungry. I have been on smoothie kick lately, but I don't want to wake anyone up with the blender.

I am getting a flu shot today. I can't stand them. My arm gets so sore for a few days. It wakes me up when I roll over it at night, but I guess it's better than getting taken out of action by the flu.

I have to get the flu shot next week. Bleh. I've never gotten one before, but I hate needles. I'm doing it this year because I got the letter from my doctor, because I'm in a high risk group now.

How about the day of? I get the shot in the afternoon and I have to work that night....am I likely to be able to go to work, or should I see if I can find someone to take my shift that night or call in sick?

Should be no issue at all, at the most some minor discomfort. It won't affect your work in the least. I found that after I slept that first night, it was the next morning that my arm hurt a bit -- again, nothing major at all.

Well, that's a relief about not having cancer. I hope it stops giving you grief the next few months. It sounds like a frustrating situation to be in. I wouldn't worry about working out, you have a lot going on right now!

Thanks! I really hope it just improves, but if not, I'll have to talk to my other dr. I just dread the idea of surgery, but I'm going to try and be optimistic.

Our district lets us know any time anyone who has been in the school tested positive and the last date they were in the school. I've had one secondary notice about one of our kids being in a class with someone who tested positive, but I guess since they are distanced and everyone is fully masked, they only make us quarantine if your child is determined to be a close contact of the infected student. I know different places have different rules and policies, but you'd think it would be easier to contain things in a school setting if they had some mask rules.

I hope your borders remain open. I would agree that trip planning is going to be extremely difficult when playing with all of these unknowns. I don't know if you're able to reserve any lodging that has a good deposit and cancellation policy.

The urologist doesn't feel it's any real danger to me, but felt that I may want to consider some options with my other dr if it continues to cause issues. Ultimately, it's not an immediate concern issue and I'd have to decide how bad it would need to get before exploring invasive options.

My older one got hers yesterday. She was so sore and DH forgot and gave her a rather painful tap on the arm. Hope yours isn't too bad.

I always get my flu shot at work before the work day starts. If my arm is sore I only notice it when pressure is put on it. Usually just feels like a bruise, nothing major.

Our school sends us an email any time someone in the school tests positive, and they send separate emails to anyone who had close contact with the infected person. The problem is, over here, kids don't have to distance from each other, only from adults, and they aren't requiring masks. So 80% of the kids aren't wearing masks at all, and they are packed in like sardines. The entire school has breaks at the same time, 10:00 and 12:50, and there are 1500 students. They have 2 areas inside for breaks, and those 2 areas are small...one is about a classroom and a half in size, and the other is like a small auditorium. That's it. So the kids are really packed in there. They are encouraged to go outside for breaks, but it was rainy all week, so they couldn't. Her class has 19 students in it, and she said they were all sitting together, shoulder to shoulder, to play this game, so they were all in close proximity to the girl. And the rule is that if you have symptoms, you stay home, but you're not supposed to get tested unless you have symptoms because the testing locations are already overwhelmed. When I called a couple of weeks ago because E had a sore throat and cough, they told me it would be at least 5 days before they could get her a slot at a testing site. So how did this girl get tested yesterday if she wasn't having symptoms for several days? And if she WAS having symptoms, why was she at school? This is what I don't understand. If she's positive, I don't know what they'll do....they are supposed to have 6 tests this week in various classes, but they can't do them if the entire class is in quarantine. It's such a mess!!

I got my jab yesterday. This shot was not as bad the past two years. I am barely sore today. Man, the last two years' shots were brutal the following 2 days after. It hurt to touch my shoulder, it hurt put on a jacket, forget about doing yoga. But I am 100% fine today. I feel a little achy and I have a slight headache, but there is also a bunch of rain coming and I always get achy before a big storm front comes in.

I question the wisdom of not making children wear masks and having them sit together shoulder to shoulder.

My nephew in the UK has to quarantine for two weeks because his teacher tested positive. I don't know what the answer is, but I don't think it's fair to place that kind of stress onto the parents. Because you know if one of your children gets this, at least one other person in the house will likely get this. The region where my MIL and SIL live is popping again, so they are going on a pretty severe lockdown.
