Hello-

I had my interview and I don’t think I got it. I’m just waiting for my flight home. I was able to reschedule it to get home earlier, but I go through Chicago.

I just want to get home. I’m done with applying for these jobs. They are a waste of my time and money. I put so much effort into this endeavor and I am 0-3. Ugh. I really thought today was my day.
I'm sorry!! But what makes you think you didn't get it? They didn't tell you right away?

I know everyone is different and some may say I don't rest as much as I should, but I usually keep with my workouts if it hasn't moved into my chest. I've found that the exercise sometimes even helps drive it out of my system when it's upper respiratory. And hey, you're also getting new shoes out of it and and the hydromassage sounds pretty darn nice as well. Hope you feel better soon!
Yeah, if it we're just a head cold, I would have stuck with my workout, but once my body started aching and my asthma started flaring, I needed a break. I have to be really careful when my asthma is bad not to make it worse; otherwise I could end up in a dangerous situation.

I'm so sorry it didn't go well for you. You should be proud that you tried and I'm sure you gave it all you could. :)

Any good effort on your part will never be a waste, and please don't forget that. Win or lose, you'll still gain knowledge from your experiences. One never knows when lessons learned, may be valuable in the future. They may or may not relate directly to this specific field, but might apply to something else. Sometimes I'm amazed by various pieces of information I've picked up over the years, and how that information has helped me, or someone I've shared it with.

Also, I'd give it a while for them to let you know, whether or not you got the job.

OK, so here is another one of my posts that simply does not belong in the "working out" thread, yet for some odd reason I keep doing it.
There is a farm about and hour north of us that has a big roadside stand that sells their goods and we like to go up there and score some fresh from the farm stuff before the local farmer's market opens for the season here.
So here is the meal after the stop at the farm.
I love the first batch of fried squash of the season. It is so good. Maybe the 75 plus year old cast iron skillet that used to belong to my granny contributes to the wonderful flavor. That and the bacon drippings.
It's a wonder I don't weigh 200 pounds or more (oh wait, I do).

Hanging out in the woods waiting for the show to begin.

I love your cooking pictures! Also, as long as (any) of us don't overeat delicious food, we should be able to maintain a fairly balanced weight. So I think your food pictures are very appropriate here. I loved the part about the 75 year old cast iron skillet!! Wow! Guess if you season and take care of them properly, they're practically indestructible!

Let's hope the fireflies put on a spectacular show for you and your wife! I like the little tents by the way-cute!

So...I'm an idiot.

I couldn't find my Fitbit Flex for days, which is what I use to go swimming. Looked and looked, tore my room apart...nowhere. I ended up going to buy another Fitbit, a Charge 3, which is water resistant, since my Alta probably needs to be retired before long; it's glitchy.

On the way home from work, it suddenly occurred to me where it was. Got home and grabbed it out of the backseat of my mom's car...

Long story short, I now have three Fitbits. I could take the Charge back but I really like it and....oh who am I kidding, it's mine now.

While camping this past weekend, on Sunday I could not find my phone. We went all through the campsite, tent, all the bags, and through the car. Tried calling the phone, just in case it was on and we could find it by the ring. No luck at all.
Got home and opened the drawer where I put my wallet and keys, and there was the phone. Never took it in the first place. I felt like an idiot.

I'm constantly misplacing my phone. It's a good thing I can have it ring at full volume if I need it to. My boss the other day told me I have a great memory. Yup, can remember random obscure info from work, cannot find phone...

Hello-

I haven't worked out yet, but I am going to later on.

I know I didn't get the job because I was walked out after the first round. The interviewer was a FA and she cut me off as I was answering why i wanted to be a FA after 15 seconds--I was discussing how my father would me take to O'Hare and we'd watch planes take off and that started my interest in aviation. I was getting to the part where I wanted to discuss how i am good at calming people down and how I would be an asset to United. So it looked like my answer was all about what I'd get out of being a FA. It went downhill from there, a lot of cutting me off. I think I was interviewed for 10-15 min. Then me she put a room with others, where another FA called out my name with 2 others. This is what I find insulting: he asked us if had any tattoos and if our contact info was current. Dude, you know we're no longer in contention, don't insult my intelligence. So, he walked us downstairs and had someone call a shuttle. While we were waiting, another candidate came down and she had a 2nd interview with more situational questions. She was acting weird and I think they hired her, because I read online they tell you not to tell others if they hire you.

Honestly, I wouldn't change a thing about how I performed. I was calm, friendly and smiling. The beta blocker helped me immensely. I think this was a situation where someone thought after hearing me speak for 15 sec, decided she couldn't work with someone like me. Maybe she hated my voice, maybe I reminded of her of someone she doesn't like--who knows. I can't change that. Basically, one person has the power to say yes or no to you. I want to say this: I have dealt with depression and anxiety my entire life and I earned all of my degrees as a mother of a child who is on the spectrum. I did my master's degree at the University of Chicago, while bringing my son to his therapy appointments and working with him at home. I think this demonstrates I have grit, I am highly organized with good time management skills and I can see intention through to the end and I have always brought these attributes to anywhere I have worked. I was hoping to convey that yesterday, but it's kind of hard when you're being rushed though.

There are United FAs who will coach you for a fee. (This is a testament to how difficult it is to be hired as a FA.) They tell you the right things to say and do at a UAL interview. So many people brag about hiring this woman at the FB group I belong to. They are people who have said they've been trying to get hired by UAL for years and they hire this FA and suddenly they are hired. Recruiters lurk on this page, so they must know some of the people they are hiring are acting inauthentically and they are cool with that.

I don't know if I am pursuing this anymore. It's a time and money suck. Some people do this for years, but I have other options, thankfully. My husband and I are going to the shore tomorrow morning to walk around and have lunch. I am looking forward to it. :)

Wow....that sounds incredibly unethical. My cousin is a FA with United....or used to be...she may have retired. And her husband was a pilot for them, and I think her son still is. I didn't think about it until just now. I could have asked for some tips. I remember her saying though, that she had been working there for something like 20 years and still didn't have seniority or something. She liked working the international flights because you got your hours in in one big chunk and then had the rest of the month off, so she always wanted to do the long flights. But she wasn't senior enough to get the ones she wanted. That was about 15 years ago, and her son was already an adult. I can't imagine working that long for a company and still not being "senior" enough to have priority on the shifts you wanted.

My uncle was a pilot for United. I haven't asked for any help from family members. IRL, the only people who know about me doing this are my husband, my son and my friend. I want to get this job under my own steam.

Yes, when you first start out, you get mostly domestic flights. Because all the "senior mamas" get their pick and everyone else gets the crumbs. International pays more and your per diem is more, too. Plus, depending upon where you're going, you get 2-5 days in the country you've flown to. I learned FA pay at United maxes out at just under 70/hr at your 13th year of employment. So, this is a good gig for someone who has a hs diploma or a GED. Heck, I'd never see that as a social worker. The starting pay is double what I made as a SW.

It's the "senior mamas" who are the ones just phoning it in until retirement. My flight from Chicago had some fresh grads working it and they were so friendly and sweet. My flight from Houston to Chicago had some FAs who should have retired 10 years ago. Good grief. What a bunch of crabby pants. :hilarious:

Yeah...you don't know what the weather will be like and while I don't know exactly where you have to go and if highways/feeders will be involved, you don't want to get stuck in traffic. School let out for the summer for most districts here either last week or the week before, so that should also help with traffic. So far, the rain has been hitting us in waves and lots of dry periods in between. We're under a flood watch until sometime on Thursday, so just watching things.

The good news is that it's going to take A LOT to shut down the airports and you should be close enough that it shouldn't be a major issue if things get bad. Case in point... that day a few weeks ago where my town was flooded, I was driving along 59 (east of IAH) and while the roads just off of the highway were totally submerged, I could see a steady stream of air traffic from IAH overhead. If you get stuck here or need help with anything, feel free to PM me.

Thank you for the offer of help. :)

It was flooded when I went to the training center. The Lyft driver refused to get out of his car to help me put my carry on case in his trunk. I was trying not to damage his car while lifting my case with one hand into the trunk while holding my umbrella with other hand. I got drenched despite having an umbrella, because the rain was coming down sideways.

Luckily, I was able to switch my flight to an earlier one, but I had to go through Chicago.

Today started with a relatively average morning workout. I biked about 15.5 miles, did a little 10 min walk and cool down to shake out my legs a bit, worked on arms and back for a bit with my 8lb dumbbells, and did some ab work with the ball. After work, I put in a 30 min training speed run (as well as a much slower walk home).

The run didn't feel the greatest. I was huffing and puffing a lot more than I have on previous runs and my stomach started to cramp up about 20 min in. Work is also really stressful right now, so I was being mentally powered from a more negative place. Anger, anxiety and frustration can make for some really powerful bursts, but it can also make for frustration fatigue. I'm sure the temp and humidity didn't help. It had dropped to 81 degrees, but it had started to drizzle on and off, so humidity was up to 84%. I was also wearing my new "speed" shoes for the first time. They are definitely more responsive and have more bounce when I manage my stride in certain ways, but there's definitely a difference in cushioning. I tend to supinate and I was starting to feel the telltale ache on the outsides of my feet. I was shocked when I stopped my watch to see that I had a new record. I didn't think it was much, but it turns out that I had a 23 second improvement in my average pace from my previous fastest run.

Wow o_O, that's a really significant improvement in your pace. I wonder if your shoes will feel less achy as you break them in a bit?

I also remember there being different ways you can tape the same area. When I was in physical therapy for my shoulder, the therapist would vary up how she taped it. I'm not sure what the logic was behind all of it, but I'm sure it all played into how she was working the joint differently in each session. I also remember this horrible woman (mom of one of my daughter's classmates) snickering and saying that's not how she would have taped it had I come to her. She also wasn't a licensed PT, so I didn't think much of her assessment, and figured it was just her being her usual "charming" self. Still, it points to being multiple good methods for various areas. But good point on making sure it's not a break. I had x-rays before I started on any of that.

Who are these people who think they know better than professionals? Why would you even go to her? I'm so over people and their unsolicited opinions.

I think yoga is making my shoulder cranky. I'm taking some time away for a bit.

I'm officially one of those people.

You know, the kind who when they can't work out itch to get back?
I had a cold for about a week. I wasn't feeling well yesterday still, so I went to the doctor. Sinus infection, upper respiratory infection, and antibiotics.

Anyway, I wasn't feeling great this morning, so I skipped the gym. Well, halfway through my day, I was like, "I have to go to the gym." I didn't have workout clothes on me. I needed more anyway and another pair of sneakers, so I ordered new sneakers from DSW and more workout clothes from Target. Stopped by both and got them during my lunch break. Then I went to the gym, and my friend who also belongs there was there. We didn't plan it, although now if I plan on a workout after work, I'm going to text her.We worked out together for 45 minutes. Bikes and weights. Then we rewarded ourselves by sitting in the hydromassage chairs at our gym, which we can use for free with our membership.

I'm tired and still achy from being sick, but I had to go. Never thought I would be one of those people, but I am now. Evidently.

Yeah, I get antsy when I can't work out. I've found if I work out the second I feel a teensy-tiny bit better, I get put back to square one.

That's a good plan you have with your friend. I wish I could get either my husband or my son to work out with me, but the closest I get are long walk with my husband.

So, I went for a 90 minute walk today. I just wanted to listen to some music and try not to re-hash yesterday. There is no rush to decide if I am going to try again. Honestly, when I was waiting for my interview, there were a few candidates talking about the Kardashians/Jenners and I thought, "They could potentially be your co-workers." and I died a little inside. :hilarious:

I didn't do yoga today, since I've not slept well for the past two nights and my shoulder gets a little sore when I am doing it. I've found it's best to listen to your body when it's talking and not waiting until it starts screaming.

OK, since you like the cooking pictures, here is tonight's effort with more of the farm produce and an experimental instant pot chicken recipe I made up on the spot.
This is instant pot boneless, skinless thighs with bbq sauce, honey and fresh sliced peaches...it was crazy good. Served the chicken with fried okra, fried potatoes, fried green tomatoes, mac and cheese, vidalia onions and some cornbread. Yeah, I know, lots of fried, but I don't do this very often.
The chicken turned out especially good, moist and tender and the last minute decision to cut up some fresh peaches into the pot was an inspired choice. It gave it a different, in a good way, kinda flavor. The mac and cheese was not necessary, but it was leftover and we always use leftovers at our house.

You both look dressed for cooler weather. Was it that chilly there?

Yeah, late evenings and mornings in the Smoky Mountains can get a little cool. It got down to the upper 50s in the mornings. Luckily, my wife brought along the down comforter, a quilt and blanket and sheets. We don't use sleeping bags but prefer regular bedding in the tent.

Your body is telling you to rest.

As for the FA thing, I'm not sure I'd want to work for them, after what you've shared about the large groups they drag into these interviews. And you get the job of paying for your own airfare to and from these. Not to mention, once you're in the interview room, they're not exactly polite if they cut you off in a discussion. Something tells me you'd be way more appreciated for your skills in another type of job venue.
