work buses

Are the buses that take you to work from the cast member apartments the same type of buses that takes you to the parks from the resorts?

Nope. It's a contracted company. Some are large/normal sized busses others are "short" busses.

Horror Story:
There was a company (that isnt running the busses anymore) called Dynamic that did the busses when I was on the CP in 2003. The bus drivers were always pretty cool but the busses (while nice on the inside) seemed to be on their last leg. After a long day of work our bus broke down. We had to wait 20+ minutes for another one to come pick us up. Well, the bus that picked us up ended up breaking down about a mile down the road. After another 20-30 minutes a third bus came and picked us up.... THAT BUS BROKE DOWN TOO! About a half mile from Vista - back then Vista was the main bus hub. Luckily the bus driver got the bus started.

Needless to say, we were ed! I'm not sure who the new company is, but from what I've heard, they are a lot better than Dynamic.

Wow, what a story. I have had the pleasure of using both Dynamic and American (the new one). While an improvement, it's not that much better.

American takes care of the buses at the grad school I go to, and I must say they are more organized at Disney than they are here, though only slightly.

I do have a fun horror story to share though:
Our location typically stays the latest at night, and on EMH nights we get out at 2am. On one particular night, one of the girls was taking the bus (she was the only one, the rest of us had cars or were carpooling with someone else). The American bus was already there at the bus stop. The girl goes up to the bus, and the driver is sleeping and the lights are off. So she knocks, the guys wakes up and opens the door. He proceed to tell her: "I can not leave until this bus is full." Now there is *no one* else leaving at this time of night, but the bus driver would not listen, and instead shut the door and went back to sleep.

I used the American buses a whopping 5 times while I was there and hated it. They would stop at Vista and sit there for 15 minutes to smoke a cigarette while everyone on the bus just waited. There's a schedule that they run on, but they were always running 5 minutes ahead so until you caught on, you would miss the bus and have to wait 30 minutes or more for the next one to come. I was so glad I had my car - no way I could have put up with it.

If its at a water park, DTD or resort, you'll get a 'short bus.' The only bad thing is that they come less frequently - and sometimes you have to call to request them. Just be happy 'Dynamic' no longer has the contract.

Edit: That 'bus has to be full' rule is a bunch of BS. That's when you call the company and talk to a manager.

Before Dynamic they had Vectour, and I remember one of the busses hit the Magic Kingdom Toll Plaza... since no one was hurt, it was rather funny. As bad as Dynamic was, Vectour was worse... they ended up filing Chapter 11 around the time that Disney pulled their contract.

I know she called and complained, but I'm not sure of the outcome. Luckily for her, someone from our store was leaving at that time and was able to give her a ride. Otherwise I guess she would have been sleeping over at Epcot. :)

Well, glad to know it's better. I am used to the short bus thing and having to call. Car broke down for a month one time and the city does a free (gov't subsidized) call-ahead pickup program for people who leave school at nights.

At the maps I looked at, Epcot is not that far from Vista. I would have maybe had to walk back but damn I would have been ed. Yah, I hope she was able to raise some cane with the company.

epcot and the bus system worked pretty well---since there are so many people working there, they ran pretty close to on-time

the only problem I faced was 4th of july when tons and tons of cp's tried to ride home and it took 1 1/2 hours to get back (buses kept filling up)

Oh I got that all the time on my first CP. I worked at the MK, so leaving at night was an absolute nightmare!! It took forever to get on a bus to go home. It sometimes took 2-3 buses to leave.

That is bad. Is always that bad?

I worked at AK and I only had to wait for a second bus 2-3 times. MK is always the 'worst' as far as getting to and from the apartments. The CP busses aren't as bad as we're making them seem. I'll be bringing a car and plan on taking the busses many days. I suggest finding someone at the work location (or at least the park) that you can become friends with and bum rides from.
