Wonderful World of Disney

I just mention on another thread that they should televise the Frozen sister's coronation on a reboot of The Wonderful World of Disney.

A flood on awesome 80/90's memories came back to me. I used to LOVE watching WWoD. Looking back they probably all were in DL but still they were so fun to watch! Why the heck did they stop these? and When?

I think Iger (?) or whoever the CEO was & Mickey introduced it. The magician from Night Court hosted it. I have a very vivid memory of Cinderella and Snow White dancing to "she works hard for the money" and New Kids on the Block dream segments at MGM-HS.

Eisner hosted the run they did during the 80's. They brought it back in the late 90's and it ran until a few years ago. It pretty much declined in the ratings right from the get-go and the ratings went in the toilet after they moved it from Sunday to Saturday night. It ended with less than 1/3 of its original audience so I'm assuming that's why it got cancelled.

Not sure why they don't try to revive it in a different form though, it's definitely a cool concept that entertains while promoting Disney like crazy.

The do have Wonderful World of Disney on Disney Jr. They don't show old park stuff but they do play the classic Disney movies!!!
Yeah.. but like you said - it's just a movie feature. They really are missing an opportunity. Imagine if they did host and air a teeny-bopper concert like they did in years past? How many tween girls would tune in to see one direction riding on Splash Mountain or hamming it up with Goofy?

ABC Family these days tends to air the classic movies on the weekends. It's not really a regular weekly schedule like it was in the past but the classic movies are still playing on TV but if you don't have a cable subscription and don't get ABC Family, well, that's a bummer.....

I guess between the Disney Channel and it's spinoff networks plus ABC Family, the Netflix Deal to get (eventually) new and (currently) vintage content, DVDs, VOD, Digital Downloads, the Disney Roku app...the idea of having one special Disney program a week on network TV seems less necessary.

Funny I saw this post when I did. Over the last couple of days I've watched The Wonderful World of Disney opening specials for both Magic Kingdom & Animal Kingdom, and their making of special for Disney-MGM Studios. The Animal Kingdom one brought me right back to my childhood. Loved it.

I remember seeing a World of Color with Eisner. It was in a movie theater, and he and various other Disney characters (who were animated, not people in costumes) were with him. At one point Mickey Mouse sits down in a theater seat and yells "Down in front". And we see that the guy "in front" is Chernobog, the demon from Fantasia, who growls at Mickey, who cowers. Then Eisner walks up with his arms full of popcorn bags and tells Chernobog TO MOVE. Chernobog immediately moves to a different seat, saying "Yes sir, at once sir! Won't happen again, sir!" Pretty funny. :D

Huge fan here. I started a thread about it when I first joined here. I would love an "classic" Disney Chanel that aired all the old ones and had a new one once a week. They could air all of the old disney shorts and Mickey Mouse clubs as well as any other old disney Chanel programming.
