I'm ready for the SW "fireworks" to hit bricks too but I don't agree they can't celebrate it and have fireworks after the land is open. It's still a celebration of the movies of Star Wars. But that's me. I get many are sick of it. It doesn't really bother me, but I'd love something new too. (And to be fair, just because it's not being changed out now, doesn't mean it won't ever be ... lol)

This all seems a bit thrown together even if the new projection show turns out to be good (I've heard several times it will be, for whatever that's worth).

And with HEA, why does the nighttime show have to be the same as the last one and rip your heart out? Different doesn't mean it's bad. Again, it's personal preference ... (and I feel like some just can't give it credit for actually being good. You can love Wishes and still like the new show ...)

Its more than these additions though. It's what WDW has become and over the years how things have changed IMO. Disney is obviously capable of creating world class attractions and still do. But I may or may not just be bitter about whats happening to epcot, as it was once my favorite park. The whole corporate synergy thing with shoving IPs everywhere and leaving attractions to rot away and things to become stagnant has bothered me. That's all.

Many just don't care. They see new and shiny and don't care how WDW is run behind the scenes. Something I've learned from posting here for over 10 years now. We all just love the parks in different ways. I wish everyone cared like some of us do but that's just not how it is. For better or worse, we're the minority :/ Guests now have different expectations. I don't like it, but it's just how I see it. It's tough. I'm trying to enjoy some of the new things but I lament a lot how better it seemed. Even if you didn't live through it all, it's not hard to see how much better run it was. How they *cared*. How there was such a different creative process involved.

I know some think it's an excuse Disney uses, but it's true that many many many guests only care about seeing characters, only care about seeing their favorite movies into the parks. I blame the Potter phenomenon. Now we get IP lands instead of a land that holds several different thematically appropriate rides.

But I maintain IP isn't the sole problem. Execution is. But I too don't love their reliance on it.

So what exactly is this show?? The news write up on the link in the OP says its a replacement for Disney Movie Magic but the official release from Disney doesn't mention replacing anything. Is this the new headliner show or is it just a primer for SWAGS?

I don't really pay attention to their official releases. It's a projection show (only? will they have low pyro? they are, like usual, light on details) and I'm guessing it's the history of animation, starting with Mickey and ending with wherever we are at now with a deep voiced narrator. Just some assumptions on my part. I have seen several people, fwiw, say it's going to be surprisingly good. I mean, who knows?

I feel like DHS could have done this entertainment differently. Disney Movie Magic is hardly old. SWGS is dying (I've heard it's not drawing in the crowds like it did but the actual show is fun and enjoyable, but they spoiled us with true fireworks prior so ... it does pale) and Fantasmic! is in desperate need (but of course people still show up for it and love it so, why should they?)

I also think they need to do better with names. This one is fine but "A Celebration of Disney Music" just cannot be the name of Epcot's 2020 nighttime spectacular. Call me crazy but I actually think they will get pushback on this (Epcot's - not DHS) new show. But we'll see. We're years away still.

Not a fan of projection shows (yet), but I have a feeling this will continue the shove-as-much-movie-IP-in-as-we-can path they've followed since Chapek was installed by Iger as head of P&R.

The most blantant example of this is Illuminations in Shanghai and Paris. While probably at the end of the day, an advertisment is what they are, I do think some are "done better" than others. I can get why they aren't everyone's cup of tea, I think some see it as lazy, but I really don't mind projection shows. Maybe they're relying a bit too much on them, but like the dance parties, it's the "hot craze" right now (I know ... but both forms of "entertainment" seem to actually be popular, lucky Disney I guess ...)

Illuminations in Paris was enjoyable, right up to the point when the Millennium Falcon and Star Wars was blasted onto the castle. That totally ruined the show for me. A totally jarring and unnecessary piece in that show. But... SYNERGY!!!! STAR WARS!!!! :banghead:

Oh no. The show is ruined long before that. It immediately looses flow after the Pirates section and never recovers. They actually have a lovely Land, Sea, Sky theme going until Beauty and the Beast shows up.

I think that's my problem with it. I loved it originally way, way back when they started with that simple pre-show on the castle at MK but it feels like it has exploded everywhere and instead of taking something that was novel and finding a way to incorporate as one of the many items in their bag of tricks for big shows, it became the big shows.

Problems with how this type of show has viewing area capacity issues everywhere they do it aside, I think there could have been a lot more longevity built into this tech if they'd taken a lighter hand to how it was applied.

Seeing the castle change with blocks appearing to bulge or having it temporarily turn into a mechanical marvel or towers lifting off like rockets or balloons being released and bouncing off the bottom edge of towers as they drift off is cool and feels magical. Seeing it used as a three dimensional projection screen for a movie of Ursula (and other characters) to me, at least, is not.

You can't base the center of a show around just those cool effects, though, and I guess that was the problem for Disney. They wanted projections to be the main event so here we are.

Can't wait to check it out! Disney animation is the foundation of the entire company and there's nothing more "Disney" than their animated movies and cartoons, from Walt's start through present day.

A "History of Disney Animation" type show with corresponding soundtracks should be an ever-present, cornerstone show at Disney parks.
