WL V/S Poly

I am debating where to stay during our next (7day) trip in Sept.-Oct. I was going to go with a delux room at the WL. We will be traveling with our DD who will be 6 & DS who will be 7. I was leaning towards the delux room at the WL due to the french doors that can seperate the sitting area for napping purposes.

My DH however likes the idea of the Monorail at the Poly. I found a web site today that had room layouts for both locations. According to this site a delux room at WL is approx 500 sq. ft. and a standard room at the Poly is approx 407 sq. ft., which is not a huge difference.

The delux room is roughly $1,200.00 more for the 7 days. So now I am left with the french doors to seperate for napping v/s Monorail.:veryconfu

Any expert advice? Please!!

Even though I am a hige fan of WL that seems like alot more $$ for only 100 more feet. We had a regular room at WL last time and DH and I would sit on the balcony while DS was napping and that worked out fine for us. We didn't need a separate space for him to sleep.

The monorail gets my vote, especially if that's what DH wanted...The monorail is one of the best things about WDW. especially at night when it is not crowded going to the park from the PR.

The monorail AND the boat from the MK make it VERY easy to get back to the resort so you can go back and relax and take a nap or swim...

Poly gets my vote. Save the money and use it on other things for you vacation... bet it will pay for your dining!!!! Unless you are hoping for the free dining, which is always a possibility... then you will have to rack your brain (gee...gosh darn... AT DISNEY???) on how to spend the extra grand!!
Check here and see if this site helps any... I LOVE Tikiman's site!!!

Go Poly...You'll love it!!!

BTW... welcome to the boards!!!

Thank you everyone! Especially for the link from Tink Rules. This is exactly what I was looking for and this site seems to have an answer for all of my questions.

I've stayed in both types of rooms and even though I adore the WL with young kids I would take the Poly. You have a son and a daughter and one can take the bed and the other the daybed, that way there will be no fighting.

The separate sitting area really did not make a difference because once the kids conked out we could have a marching band come thru and it wouldn't mean a thing. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony with a drink while the kids napped. The bathroom at the Poly is huge with the sinks inside whereas the WL is very small and the sink/mirror is in an alcove...not much difference t0 some people, but I like to take all of my stuff in with me. *shrugs*

My only issue with the Poly was that you had to walk outside between buildings to get to the shops and restaurants...we couldn't let the kids go by themselves because they got lost coming back in the dark.

I also just remembered.... when you make your reservations... REQUEST a room either on the first or third floors if possible... the second floors do not have balcony's if you wanted to go and sit and read or whatever while the little one naps!!!

I have stayed at both resorts and would reccomend the Poly but I would put in a request for Samoa 3rd floor as early as possible (and often) Samoa is almost right behind the GCH and in between both pools. We could see the quiet pool from our room so we knew when it was open after a storm without having to walk down there. Also the quiet pool has small gazebo things with fans next to the pool deck (WL does not) I enjoyed them so much I sent my DH to disney Quest and spent (gasp) the whole day at the pool. It was so relaxing. Also the TTC is only a 3-4 minute walk away, much easier than switching monorails........ I'm sure you'll have a great time no matter which you choose have a great trip

We were in Rapa Nui and the TTC was just a walkway away, yet we never heard any traffic.

Tigsmom is wise! While I love both the Poly and WL, with children of that age the monorail access is a lifesaver! Quickie zips back for a dip in the pool and nap, quick access to MK and Epcot. Save WL for when they are a bit older.

I've stayed in what is now Fiji and what used to be Oahu - overlooking the quiet pool. Fiji is over by the marina - closer to the boat, but further than the TTC... Also anything close to the GCH will be good for the food and also being able to get to Captain Cooks for snacks and such.

Here I am, beating the drum again for FW cabins. They are hotel rooms that just look like cabins, complete with full size range, microwave, ref., DISHWASHER, and complete maid service everyday. There is an ice maker, coffee maker and coffee, dishes, pot and pans, silverware etc...if you decide to cook. Outside, off the porch there is a grill to cook out on and a picnic table to eat a meal on. There can be no doubt about it....when you stay in a cabin, you are not roughing it. There is a seperate bedroom with a full size bed and bunk beds, and in the living room there is a "murphey" bed, pull it down to sleep at night, or nap, and put it back up during the day so the whole living room is free. The LR and BR both have TV's and VCR's or DVD players, depending on if they have them all upgraded by now.

There is a marina for the launch to the MK, WL or Cont. Hotel. It is a quick trip to the MK and from there you can take the monorail anywhere else. There is an internal bus system to take you around the campground and an external bus system to take you to places the boat or monorail don't. There is a beach with a great view of the MK fireworks and the electric parade each night, boat rentals, bike rentals, paddleboat rentals, a Disney drive in movie each and every night complete with smores, golf cart rentals, a petting zoo, the horse barns (yes, you can walk thru) where the Disney trolley horses are stabled. There are two pools, walking trails, play grounds, basketball and volleyball nets. It is tree lined and very quiet, a great place to stay. I love it there...can you tell?
I think the price is in line with WL, I think we have paid 300 or so per night to stay in the past. The golf cart rental and all the other rental things cost extra and you get them at the bike barn. I love to rent (reserve early, they go fast) a golf cart for our stay because it is fun to drive around the grounds and if you need to shop for something you don't have to walk with grocery bags etc...They also have mini-marts (Disney) of course. The drive in movie is also a blast, chip and dale are there and the movie changes everynight. Look it up if you want, I can't think of a reason not to like the cabins!

You know... I really would like to try the cabins some time. I think it's a great idea....and I kind of like the rustic stuff and all...(I'm actually going to use their idea of having a bed and bunk beds in my lake place this summer - from pictures I've seen...)

But I'm spoiled by the monorail...

Actually the standard room at the Polynesian is 415 sq-ft and the rooms in the newer longhouses are 476 sq-ft. I measured them myself for my web site and the Unofficial Guide book. The 476 sq-ft rooms are about 42% of all the rooms so your chance of getting one of those is very good.

Also having quick and easy access to the GF and Contemporary by monorail is nice for other food options and shopping and you can’t beat the Polynesian for transportation to the parks since the TTC is right next door (a short walking path from the resort to the TTC).

If you want to go at the end of July or August I can get you about $100 off a night at the Polyensian. If interested just shoot me an email Polynesian@tikiman2001.net

Aloha

Polynesian. You're going with younger kids and the monorail is a lifesaver compared to the fleet of busses you will need at WL. Monorail to MK and Epcot, prolly where you will spend most of your theme park time. Then bus over to MGM and AK as needed.

Whereas WL is busses all over. And apparently way more expensive with what you'd want to do room-wise. Poly all the way.

Tikiman,

Your site is awesome! I was just directed to it yesterday, thanks to Tink rules. I have given a great amount of consideration to the 3 newer longhouses. After I read on your site about the size of the rooms. I think I have narrowed it down to Tokelau. We have decided to go with a garden view. I was considering requesting room #3915. Your maps and pics are a huge help. I wish we could make it during the dates you mentioned, however, we have promised to take the kids to MNSSHP.

Thanks again for everyones help!

Tokelau would be my first choice for garden view with Samoa second. I would actually try and get a room on the other side of Tokelau and not the east side. The west side has nice views of the pool and has many rooms that can see the castle and fireworks. The other side cannot see the castle.

Have a great trip.
