WL or GF?

My family and I will be visiting WDW in July. My brother and I have a different choice...in what wdw resort to stay in. I have decided to ask you guys...the experts. Price is not really an issue, I say the GF and he says the WL. Which is better?

Pick the Grand Floridian definitely. It is on the monorail, enough said. It is one stop away from the Magic Kingdom, and there is a boat that takes guests from the Magic Kingdom back to the Grand Floridian quickly.

Well yeah we know hat we have stayed at the GF multiple times...and never at the WL. I haven't heard too much about the WL...but besides the scenery....whata bout the service, restaurants..how does the WL compare to the GF in that sense?

My preference is for the WL, never really cared for the atmosphere in GF. But why can't you do both? Why not split your stay between the two hotels? Do the first half of your trip at one then the second half of your trip at the other.

The service at WL is the same at any Disney hotel, happy friendly staff always ready and willing to help. As for restaurants, we have Artist's Point, a good couples restaurant. Whispering Canyon, a fabulous family restaurant where they get the kids up doing 'Pony Express' at certain times during the meal hours and the wait staff is hilarious. Don't forget to ask for ketchup! And we have Roaring Forks as our quick service meal spot. We also have an arcade, a gym and of course the mercantile. We have buses that go to all the parks, TTC, DTD and a boat that goes to MK as well as smaller resort boats that go between WL, Contemp and FW.

Plus there is nothing like checking in and having the CM welcome you home to the Lodge.

Another WL lover here.

Since you've already stayed at the GF why not try something different?
The atmosphere is totally different as are the restaurants. When you drive under the big arch its like stepping into another world. The huge lobby with the totem poles is a sight to behold.

Give it a try this time, I don't think you will disappointed.

Another vote for WL.

I'm sure if you search this site there are alot of threads on this topic. You can also visit www.allearsnet.com for great resort information.

I feel that GF is very nice because its a beautiful upscale hotel, with of course some Disney touches thrown in.

WL is also upscale and beautiful but also fun and unique. Where else in central Florida are you going to find an upscale hotel experience but in the form of a breathtaking lodge. It has a great pool, a very good restaurant (Artist Point) and an atmosphere you just cant find many other places. Although GF has the Monorail access to MK. You can take the Ferry from WL right over to the MK.

I've stayed at other nice resorts like GF, including the place that inspired it, The Hotel Del Coronado in Calf. ( www.hoteldel.com ), but its the uniqueness of WL that brings me back for multiple visits.

And I think its a no-brainer since you have stayed at GF already and you havent tried the WL.

Enjoy your trip....wish I could stow away in your suitcase!

Since you have stayed at the Grand Floridian a few times, you might want to keep this in mind: my parents and I have stayed at a few other places (Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Swan), and I know my parents have been disappointed in the other hotels because of what they had become accustomed to at the Grand Floridian.

I truly enjoyed the Animal Kingdom Lodge, but they preferred the atmosphere and restraunts at the Grand Floridian. I think they ended up eating at there more than at our hotel.

If you want to try something new, go for it, but remember things will not be the same as the Grand Floridian.

I've never actually stayed in either resort, but to me the Grand Floridian doesn't "feel" like Disney to me. I mean it's super nice and all, but it just never feel right to me. Wilderness Lodge feels much more homey and comfortable. If I ever stayed in a Deluxe resort, I would choose Wilderness Lodge a notch above the Polynesian and the Contemporary.

GF! I would love to stay there if I had the money. Both of them are neat, but to be able to just hope on the monorail to MK would be amazing! I just feel that GF in closer to the action, and WL is kind of off to the side! :)

Have stayed at both. GF first than WL. I wanted to stay at WL because it looks so beautiful. Well if you like it relaxing and peaceful after a busy day in the parks its not for you. We have never gone back to WL, but have gone back to GF. Just our two cents. Wherever you choose have a great time.

Really? I find it very relaxing. Just grab a cup of coffee, tea or something a little stronger and hit one of the big rockers by the fire or overlooking the grounds. Heck, I've even seen people stretched out and sleeping of the big leather sofas. Relaxing on the balcony overlooking the falls & pool is another nice way to end the evening. There are many seating areas tucked away where you can enjoy a drink or book & just relax.

Not relaxing? O contrare. It is without a doubt the most relaxing of the Magic Kingdom resorts in my opine. Taking the launch back to the lodge in the evening is a great day to unwind from a day at MK. In fact, one afternoon, I rode the launch around for about three hours and did nothing but read. the boat dock area can be one of the most peaceful areas on resort property....

Big Cavenous Hall, lots of kids running and slamming of doors. Sorry we didn't find it too peaceful. Sorry it might of been the guest at the time. I will admit the hall is beautiful, I couldn't imagine a nicer spot. That is why I wanted to stay there, but it was October, not the busiest time, and we could hear noise through our door till 2AM. I really wanted this to be the best resort, but for us it wasn't.

Grand Floridian Advantages:
1. On Monorail Line
2. Bigger Rooms
3. 3 Upscale Restaurants (Narcoosees, Citricios, Victoria's and Alberts)
4. Character Breakfast and Dinner at 1900 Park Fare
5. Wonderful Spa
6. Exclusivity

Wilderness Lodge Advantages
1. More Casual
2. Absolutely Unique
3. Price (not an issue from what you've said)
4. Wonderful Swmming Area
5. Great Family Dining Restaurant (Whispering Canyon)
6. Hiking/Biking Trails
7. Incredibly Romantic

I think both are incredible hotels and I wish I could come along! I'm green with envy.

We already stayed at the Poly last summer...and did not really like it...we were comparing it to the GF all the time. Like the service for example...we stayed at the Poly Concierge and we did not like it.... because a few months before we had stayed at the GF Main Building Concierge...AKA. The Royal Palm Club.
