I think the embargo drops soon? And I also think there’s showings this Saturday (sign of confidence?)

I think it’ll eke out to profitability if it’s received well and gets good word of mouth

It’ll have a nice first weekend because the trade headlines will lump in the Wed/Thurs numbers. Think it’s an open question if it’ll have broad appeal beyond the Disney fans.

Yeah, the Thanksgiving 5-day should be fine unless Trolls Band Together and/or Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes does absolutely phenomenal second-week business, and I don't think that's likely. In any case there haven't been a lot of family movie options anyway and Trolls is the only other game in town. But adults without kids probably won't see a movie like Wish on their own, and even teenagers are up in the air; my understanding is that the songs aren't catching on the way "We Don't Talk About Bruno" did. The previewed jokes aren't funny. And thinking about it -- the advertising hasn't sold an emotional hook to the story. It's the 5 Ws at play: "Wishes coming true" is a vague theme when it's not made clear what the wishes are and why the characters (and who are they?) deserve to have them come true. And trying to draw on nostalgia for older films arguably just makes matters worse. We literally have those movies at home!

Forgive me, but your assumption that "adults without kids will probably not see a movie like "Wish" is totally and completely off-base. I am an adult without kids and I am seeing it the day it comes out. I know dozens and dozens of other adults without kids doing the same. I'm also seeing the new Hunger Games tomorrow night and on Saturday, we'll be seeing the Eli Roth horror movie, Thanksgiving, which is currently 88% positive on Rotten Tomatoes. This is all to say that some of us Disney lovers can enjoy an animated movie as an adult and can also enjoy other movies made specifically for adults.

I know plenty of adults enjoy animated features on their own; there seems to be a lot of anticipation for next month's American release of The Boy and the Heron in that regard. I just don't see what the hook is for Wish appealing to adults who aren't really, really into Disney -- going by the previewed material, the songs sound canned, the jokes are Shrek-lite, the animation is nothing special, and it's not a particularly sophisticated story premise. As Gabo puts it in one clip: "What are you, five?"

I think it's already been confirmed that Disney intends to give Wish an open-ended theatrical run (and given how much they've moved out of 2024 they might as well), so as far as Christmas Day programming goes on D+ they'll probably just go with the DW Xmas show and call it a, well, day if they don't decide they can drop The Marvels then.
Well, since it's been confirmed that the second season of What If...? will drop December 22 (one episode per day for 9 days straight, including a Christmas-themed episode) that and the Doctor Who Christmas Day episode will probably be Disney+'s big seasonal offerings, Wish definitely won't drop on Christmas. ;)

Ummmmmm........you are pre-judging without seeing it, but you are in good company, so take a bow. I do not know if it is going to be great yet, and neither do you. However, your continued assumption that adults without kids will not see this is absolutely ridiculous.

Another adult without kids seeing it… my wife is specifically looking forward to this… and I am the Disney fan out of the 2 of us

Wish will be a smash hit in theaters and will more than cover the costs to make and market at the Box office alone.

Disney NEEDS this win!
I agree that Disney needs a win. But I'm predicting soft box office receipts. As much as Disney is hyping the movie, I'm not seeing the level of enthusiasm you would expect from a smash hit. So many young moms that I've spoken to are going to wait for it to hit D+. Theaters have gotten too expensive for families while streaming at home is just cheaper and easier with kids.

Firstly, I am hoping for the best for Wish even though I know it was not written for my family.

Totally agree. My family now watches from home 99 percent of the time, we will pay to purchase or rent if we really, really want to see something at home right away, otherwise we wait for it to be on one of the streaming services.

My hope for Wish is even if it has a soft opening, it "has legs" like Elemental had.

Lets see what happens
