Soul, Encanto and Strange World were all released to Disney+ on or right before Christmas Day.

What are the chances the same thing happens to Wish?

It probably won't, but Disney has now created a precedent where a major animated release happens on Disney+ X-mas Day and I can't think of an alternative title for this year.
Given the weak opening it had I honestly wouldn't be surprised if The Marvels gets a Christmas Day drop instead.

As another poster said, possibly The Marvels may get on D+ for Christmas.
I think Wish will be successful enough to still be in the theaters into the New Year.

I'm sorry to say my enthusiasm-level for this film is not high. The music is honestly just so meh to me, and that matters a lot for my enjoyment of a musical Disney animated feature.
Even though I know Wish was not written for me, I really think it will be a smash hit at the box office.

You're probably right, but I'll be really curious to see how it does, with all of the duds they've had recently.

Evidently even complimentary posts are under a microscope here. She spoke really eloquently in the interview—is it ok to say that?

I really think Wish will do well and TWDC does need a WIN!

On your other point, as we have seen with Snow White, its super important that the talent that represents the work gives a good interview, we did not get that for Snow White but we have it here with Wish. GOOD SHOW!!

Just to add, there is a clip shown in this interview (new to me), that shows a wonderful easter egg / homage to Alice in Wonderland that they incorporated. Love it. Very excited for this movie.

The mushrooms? Are they supposed to be like the mome raths?

What’s is she hinting at with the “7 friends?”

That was a very nice interview!

I really hope this film is both good and successful as the last thing we need is Disney entering into another era where they start to doubt the viability of feature animation.

I agree, that was a wonderful interview. I had never heard of her before, but I instantly liked her. Very gracious young lady who is a good ambassador for the film!

See, Disney can still do movie PR right when they get the talent on message. :)

She won an Oscar for the Steven Spielberg remake of West Side Story. If you have Disney Plus, I highly recommend watching the movie.

They definitely won't *(or definitely shouldn't).

They do have the Doctor Who Christmas Special. I know not the same thing, but that's a fairly beloved tradition and it has been a while since it was on Christmas Day.

Then Win or Lose (the Pixar Series) could be the equivalent answer. Percy Jackson will be airing episodes around that time too.

Or What:If season 2 is undated. Albeit I think one or two things may get shuffled forward to deal with the content gap created by the strike.

I think it's already been confirmed that Disney intends to give Wish an open-ended theatrical run (and given how much they've moved out of 2024 they might as well), so as far as Christmas Day programming goes on D+ they'll probably just go with the DW Xmas show and call it a, well, day if they don't decide they can drop The Marvels then.

Yeah, the songs sound like they were written for commercials, fireworks shows, and/or America's Got Talent quarterfinal performances first, and story and tone second. (The Greatest Showman had this problem too.)

YES exactly, The Greatest Showman is a great comp for this. I thought of that, too. "What I Know Now" sounds like it fills the role of the song the Bearded Lady sings ("This is Me"?). I've never seen that movie, but I feel like I have because of the commercials and the pop covers of the songs. It's like every song is Rachel Platten's "Fight Song." (remember when that song was inescapable?)

Well, shoot. I don't have Disney+. And I just ordered HBO Max via my Amazon Prime account so I could binge watch the first two seasons of The Gilded Age for the week leading up to Thanksgiving when my sister arrives and insists we talk about it.

So I'm already knee deep in bitchy WASPs and closeted gays, which hits so close to home that I'm afraid I don't have the emotional capacity to tackle a new version of the Sharks Vs. Jets saga. ;)

But I will say that The Supremes version of "There's A Place For Us" is my absolute favorite arrangement of that beautiful song.

Summary: quite a few were underwhelmed, some warm responses but very few calling it a must-see.
