Wipeout

I have been watching the tv show Wipeout (http://abc.go.com/primetime/wipeout/index?pn=index) and it got me thinking. Wipeout is on ABC... which is owned by Disney. Do you think we could ever see a Wipeout set being built in WDW as an attration. I watch the show when its on and think it would be so much fun to do!!! I was thinking they could build the set in one of the parks and have it either be extra money to try and get through it, or they could make it like the American Idol Experience where they choose guests to compete on. Either way it would be so much fun and could def be an interesting attraction!

I don't know. Since there is physical activity involved.

Do you need a physical to participate.
Probably have to sign all kind of waivers.

I know my DH watches the show & I am sure he would be the 1st one to raise his hand to do it.

Ouch

DW and I watch it every week. I can't imagine the liability and insurance and waivers that go into that show. They're just asking for a broken neck or spine.

I don't ever see WDW putting in an obstacle course anywhere close to the actual ones on the show. They're not very keen on risk :p

BTW, does anyone know where they film Wipeout? They put down a LOT of astroturf over what appears to be wasteland in the middle of a valley.

I think Wipeout is a poor man's MXC.... They are virtually one in the same, but MXC had actual comedians doing the commentary, and they really enhanced the humour with their witty, acerbic and cuastic commentary...

IMO ABC wipedout trying to recreate MXC...

It's funny you mention that... Mid-season this year they redesigned the bases of the Big Balls where the ball meets the base support ring at the bottom. At some point they added a collar that totally covers the ring and extends up all the way to the ball itself.
And because they haven't been showing the episodes in the order they were filmed, those collars appear and disappear from show to show.

I figured something must've happened to warrant adding the extra padding, and a couple weeks ago they had the fall that must have been the one... A lady fell sideways between the first and second balls, and her head landed square on the ring at the bottom of the second ball, twisting her neck in a way that was utterly painful to watch. And while she kept on running the course and didn't appear to be hurt (compared to some injuries where the contestants have had to stop running the course), I'll bet that hit was hard enough (perhaps later diagnosed with a concussion?) that the insurance and/or lawyers stepped in and told them to re-design the bases.

As said at a link posted by someone else, it's filmed outside Santa Clarita, CA. But the more-specific answer is that it's filmed at the Golden Oak Ranch in Newhall, CA, which coincidently enough, is owned by the Walt Disney Company... Old Yeller, The Parent Trap and the "Spin and Marty" segments of the Mickey Mouse Club were filmed there, among many other shows and movies. (And not just Disney movies, many companies rent the ranch)

Hmmm... Looks like a lot of earth-moving equipment's hard at work, with a familiar-looking barn in the background... ;)

Further trivia... The new Golden Oak Outpost in Fronteirland was named after the ranch.

Wow what a surprise.. An American Game show that is a Ripoff of another game show.

I think instead of bringing it in so people can compete why not bring it here to film? And about people competing on a game show in a park... Universal did this with Fear Factor and it seemed pretty successful for a little while. I just don't think we would see it due to the Liability. And besides no one gets physically hurt at the American Idol Experience, perhaps emotionally but no physically..

Just because it airs on ABC doesn't mean Disney owns it. The vast majority of network television shows is produced by a separate company. Unless Disney purchased theme park rights to the show, they can't just create a show based on it.

I personally would not want to see this built in one of the parks. It's not very magical to me. And, I don't think Disney would ever consider doing it anyway because of the liability they would be under if someone was injured. Even if they did have participants sign a waiver they could still sue Disney.

Never because Disney would be responcible for any injuries.

What if they made the facility outside of the parks, making it one of those WDW daredevil activities among the likes of Waterskiing, Tubing, Parasailing, Stock Car Racing, etc? If they really wanted to, they could.

I'm pretty sure it isn't produced by ABC/Disney because in the UK we have it on BBC and the credits show Endemol Entertainment and Pulse Creative. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1156535/companycredits)

Endemol Entertainment and Pulse Creative were also behind Fear Factor, so they are no stranger to putting things in theme parks, but if you look at theatre factor, it's very safe, yes they eat bugs and have to climb walls, but they have harnesses and the bugs are "Suitable for human consumption". Wipeout, however has a course in which having a harness would be very hard, and if you do Wipeout, there is no general thing like Fear Factor, you need the course and most certainly the "Big Balls" which is very dangerous and would require a large amount of paperwork.

In short, It ain't gonna happen...

EDIT: Here's the credits for American Idol, (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319931/companycredits) Fremantle Media North America, Fremantle Media, 19 Television (as 19 Entertainment), American Idol Productions, Fox Television Network (in association with).
Are any of those Disney? I don't think so... I may be wrong (Fremantle is UK based...)
