For those staying at PPH in the future, reduce your wait at the elevators by pushing 'UP', more often than not the elevator arrives half empty. Ride it to the top and back down.

That's what we used to do at the Contemporary at WDW. Same problem there exacerbated by the droves of people going to Chef Mickeys on the 4th floor. ;)

Or you could do the smart thing, and pick another hotel to stay at. This is the simplest way to remedy this problem. I don't want to have to jerry-rig the elevator thru manipulative means to make my wait time shorter. Disney, in all its great research/design/testing glory should've addressed this during the build phase. In short, they know better, which makes me think that they really don't care. This probably isn't the case, but perception is 90% of the rule.

Agreed. Haven't stayed there in a lot of years. I will say, if your room is on a higher floor its not so much a problem. The elevator starting at the top stopping at each floor as it goes down fills quickly. Staying on 6 at the Contemporary was horrible. Staying on I guess it was 11 wasn't a problem.

Stayed on the 9th floor. Over a 30 minute wait on a weekday. nonsense.

Did you try the stairs? I ask because in December 2007 we were cutting it close to our family portrait sitting in the MK. We thought we'd be smart and take the stairs. The door from the stairway back into the building wouldn't open. Safe, huh? We were kinda freaked out by that. Had to haul back up trying to open every door along the way. Got back in before going back to our floor which was 6. I guess we re-entered at 4. Used escalators inside to get down. It was insane to say the least. I was steaming mad because I didn't want us looking flustered or sweaty in the portraits. LOL!

Yep, took the stairs (see my original post about my thoughts on decorating the staircase, lol). After waiting for the elevator the first day for 30 minutes and literally watching two dads with their families in-tow almost get into a fist fight while waiting, we headed straight for the stairs. PP will never get our business again, even if it was $100/night.

When we got back to the hotel we took the elevators without issue, but you should never, ever, need to have a strategic plan to exit your room 45 minutes to an hour before the park opens in order to make the elevator queue. This is *supposed* to be an *on grounds* resort. pfft.

Disney did not build this hotel, it was purchased and renovated by WDI. The only hotel built from the ground up by Disney was Grand Californian.

I've stayed at PPH a few times during D23 events, I would still recommend it to those who want a cheaper alternative stay at Disneyland even if it's not up to par with the other two hotels.

jerry-rig the elevator thru manipulative means

Hardly.

The fact is that it's a design flaw and the hotel is not worth the money. It's a value resort at best
(but not really). And yes, you're manipulating the elevator to get on it and screwing other people waiting at the same time.

As for Disney not building it, well, that is a bit of a comfort knowing they didn't screw up the design. It still doesn't excuse the sub-caliber level of the hotel as a whole.

I see your perspective, but It's actually making it more fair for those who are on the lower floors. Those on the upper floors are more likely to get te empty elevator when requesting down. Crowds waiting for elevators are always much smaller on the top three floors because of this.

What should be done is have empty elevators go up to any given floor in the order that they were requested. On my three stays I did not notice any such pattern.

It most likely was not a design flaw when it was built as crowd patterns were much different than today. It IS a value hotel. It doesn't pretend to be anything but. The prices are only reflective of the low amount of Disney hotel rooms in Anaheim.
