Will we always have EMH?

With all of the little changes and experiments I hear going on at Disney it makes me wonder about extra magic hours.

Basically are extra magic hours that popular? When we go the parks never seem to be as crowded as they should be. With FP+ I could see Disney giving extra fast passes to resort guests and completely do away with EMH.

I do like the EMH, but it has to be a huge amount of money to run all the rides, personnel, etc. Plus it takes away from maintenance time.

It just wouldn't surprise me if EMH went away and some other perk was give to resort guests.
Remember after 9/11, they discontinued the old early entry system and replaced it with character caravans. They of course blamed it on guests wanting something else besides early entry instead of the lower occupancy rates. I wont ever say never.

I seriously hope they don't discontinue EMHs. If there's more hours available in the park then we're gonna use them. We did an insane amount of hours in MK and EPCOT last trip, resulting in us being exhausted, but what a ride!

The last two times I've been, we've used the EMH at Disney Hollywood Studios. We used the evening Extra Magic Hours in October 2012 and the morning Extra Magic Hours back in May. So worth it.

Like several others have said, a lot of people may/will simply refuse to stay on Disney property without this giant perk, unless they replace it with something much, much better than the ability to reserve FP+ at 60 days out, as from what I've seen, most people don't seem to care for FP+ and would rather have the old paper FP system back. Plus, people that stay at resorts already get the 60 day FP+ perk, so there would literally be no appeal there. They would HAVE TO announce some other huge perk to replace EMH to keep people coming to the resorts. Otherwise... they're going to lose a TON of money.

I love EMH and I'd be sad if they did away with it. I personally don't get much use out of the morning hours, but the evening hours are great especially at Magic Kingdom. But, even if they stopped doing it, I'd still prefer to stay onsite because I enjoy the Disney bubble.

I concur. I'd be miffed and would certainly complain to corporate, but I also enjoy the Disney bubble and would still stay onsite.

Then again, I don't believe they would do away with EMH completely. I've seen no evidence of this at all, anywhere besides random people suggesting it on forum posts.

One podcast I listen to speculated that EMH could be replaced by longer park hours. I believe they are already setting up AK for some nighttime hours.

I would be disappointed if they got rid of EMH. We rarely use the morning ones. If we do it's at AK, and even then we don't get there right at opening. We do make use of the night EMH though. My husband and I are both night owls (especially H) and would rather be out late than get up early.

It is already kind of sad to know that we will never again be in the MK until 3 AM in the morning (regular park closing time 12.00 AM plus three EMH), it was always a very special feeling and atmosphere to be at the MK in the middle of the night and still do a lot of rides with mostly no waiting time (there are some exceptions of course and I will never understand why people wait 45 min and more at 1.00 AM or later for PETER PANS FLIGHT, a heavily outdated vintage ride with effects and design from the 1950ies!). It was very laid-back to walk through the MK at this very late time, stroll through the shops and I will miss it. If the cancel the evening EMH completely, well lets say that would have some serious impact on my WDW vacation policy.

Really missed the old EMH this last visit in August...1 pm just seems kind of early still at MK
Yeah 1pm is pretty early indeed :p

I keed, I keed, I know what you meant. Yeah, I miss the 3am EMH as well. It's just not the same... on our upcoming trip in December, we're barely getting any EMH at all. I think we have 3 nights total out of 8, and only one morning. On our last 2 trips, we had EMH pretty much every night, and if not, we had morning EMH for sure. Sad. :(

I know I'm getting old, but I hope to be asleep many hours already at 1am let alone 3 am. :)

Hey I am the same way outside of Disney... but at Walt Disney World, I am full of insane amounts of energy (and probably sugar...) and will stay at the parks as late as they will let me!
