Will Universal's new Budget Hotel hurt Disney?

For those who plan to include Uni as part of their vacation, I suspect there will be lot more split stays, i.e.- 4 or 5 nights at POP and 2/3 nights at Cabana Bay Beach Resort, rather than spending all 7 nights at POP and just day-tripping it to Universal.

We're doing a split stay this year for the first time. The first two days at Universal, then going on over to Disney for the real, I mean, "rest" of the vacation...

Nope, likely little effect. Take a look at all the hotels right in UNI's backyard now, dozens of them. If anything the new UNI value hotel will take away from those. People doing split stays are already staying at the International Drive area hotels and some will now opt for the UNI hotel.

Woo, way to start off positive... Haha.

I'm just kiddin'... at first I was a little worried I wouldn't like it as much as Disney and we are cutting a couple of days from Disney that we would normally do, but many people have told me that Uni is pretty awesome too, so I'm actually pretty excited now -- and the fact that June is right around the corner!

Yes, Universal is awesome indeed... but if you're going during peak season and don't have an express pass, expect to spend half of your day waiting in line. I still think The Forbidden Journey ride beats any other ride I've ever been on.. yes, Disney included. Don't kill me

Read about Universal's new Budget hotel they are planning. Seems in the mode of All Star Resorts.
About Time.....Love Disney to death but occasionally we like to visit Universal. We love staying on site and realize that this new resort will not offer front of line perk. But still will be big draw for families who previously could not afford Hard Rock, Royal Pacific, or Portifino. So all of our time has been spent in Disney...This will surely make difference for us and will afford us to sometimes now split our visit between Disney and Universal.....what do you think?

No.

I expect long lines, but what I don't get is there are people (on this board) that say it's only a half day park??

Being we live in Florida and going to Disney a lot. We will try it for something different to do. Can't afford the onsite hotels there now but maybe this one I can! I think it will hurt Disney when it first opens then level out.

People always say that. Don't worry about that.

They also say there is nothing for little kids, the place is filthy, the staff is mean and they have no themeing, lol.

I don't want to quibble with those people, but for our purposes, lets just say that most people do not find that to be the case. :)

With the possible exception of Gatorland, there is no half-day park. No park in which you can do everything in half a day. Doesn't exist. I can do everything I want to do in DHS in half a day, but that doesn't mean a new person shouldn't spend at least one full day there. My issues won't necessarily become yours. All parks are at least one-day parks.

No... Everyone I know, including customers of mine who go to Orlando, add Universal to their Disney trip. I don't think I've ever heard someone say I'm going to Universal and while we are there are going to Disney for a day or two. Adding on other side trips as well, for most, Disney seems to be THE place to be. Themed resorts, transportation, shows, shops, restaurants, it all accomplishes the goal of keeping guests mostly tied to Disney properties.

If you talk to people at Uni, you will find that some go there and don't go to Disney, just like some go to Disney and not Uni.

I've learned to never ask kids about the other place. At Uni, if some kid starts talking to me, I won't bring up Disney...and vice versa. (Not like I try to talk to strange kids. Some of them just talk to anyone, lol.)

I understand that people have only so much time, but I think everyone should get the chance to visit both.

I think Uni hotels, once people make the jump, DO hurt Disney. They are nicer, more spacious/luxurious and cheaper! IMHO there's a "bubble" there as well. Everything's much more compact and you don't have to get on a bus to get there. CBR is going to have suites at a reasonable price- for people with larger families a kitchen and separate bedrooms are a huge deal- and not having blow 60%+ of your budget on a room is quite attractive. It's a step up from AA, but probably the same quality as a DVC- with better service. Once they get the waterpark up and running, there will be less of a reason to leave ;)

Depends on what their version of BUDGET means......
