At least 5 times out of every trip to Disney a perfect stranger will ask me to take a picture of them in front of the castle or something like that. Now don't get me wrong I do not mind doing this at all, actually I get a kick out of seeing the people happy but I always wonder why are they trusting a perfect stranger with thier expensive camera?

Its the disney magic :)

Plus you sure dont want to try to something wrong. They are always watching.

When ppl ask me typically I will take their camera and run about 20 feet....I stick within 20 feet because past that point, I can't hear their heart and spirit break.....

..then I come back and take their picture.

Disney is the only place in the entire world I'd feel comfortable doing that (I don't believe in unnecessary risk); at WDW it wouldn't even occur to me to think someone would take it.

That's incredibly naive of me, but it's the truth.

I don't posess a criminal mind, but I'd venture to guess that the reason more people don't run away with other peoples expensive cameras at Walt Disney World is because, in my humble opinion, a camera is not worth going to jail for.:p

Can they walk away with my camera? Yes.

Will they walk away with my camera? Probably not.

I feel fine letting someone else take a pic of me... and if they volunteer, even better. I'm not above chasing someone down, kicking them in the face, giving them the 'People's Elbow', spitting on them, calling them four letter words and then taking their picture on the ground bleeding while saying, "How you like me now b_t_h??" to get my camera back :D

This thread prompted me to share a story about cameras. (A little off topic --sorry) A few years back, We had spent the morning in Magic Kingdom and then headed over to Epcot. While in the Living Seas restroom, by accident I left my camera on the back hook of the bathroom door. It was your typical 35mm camera, nothing particularly fancy or expensive. I realized it almost immediately after we left, to walk thru the Living Seas. I went back and the camera was gone. I don't know why I should've been shocked, but I was very shocked and upset that someone would do this, especially since it was all families with small children that had been in the bathroom. I would never take someone's camera like that. You would think everyone one at Disney has a camera or can get a disposable one. We checked Lost and Found repeatedly, left our address and info and no one ever turned it in. I wasn't so much upset about the camera, as I was about the roll of film that was in there--our first Disney family memories!! Cannot be replaced!! Our traveling party tried to make us feel better and not let this ruin our vacation. I do think that I was unlucky because I believe that most of the people who are at Disney are honest and in the many times we've visited people always are really great. But this particular incident still stands in my mind. So all in all good advice to follow would be to ask a CM to take a picture of you when you want one of your whole family. Unfortunately things can happen anywhere.

As people have said, it is just too enclosed an environment to make running a viable option.

But, slightly different but still difficult situation - what do you do if you hand somebody your expensive camera to take a photo for you and they drop it? Is it their fault? Would you expect them to pay for it, or would you just see it as your bad luck?

We seem to forget I think that a majority of us are good people. We arent out to screw our fellow WDW visitor. My only caution would be to ask the person who you have entrusted your camera to to use the strap provided to prevent dropping it, or if the shoe is on the other foot, make sure you use it on someone elses camera, it is a foreign object in their hands and they arent used to the feel of it compared with their model. My wife left my entire photo bag with a bout $1,000 + of equipment in it in at the Electric Umbrella and I got it back an hour later at lost and found. Incredible! There wasnt any id on any of the equipment other than the photos and videos showing my family. This was a definite reminder of how good people still are. I still dont trust any of you though.:hammer:

Completely agree with AEfx. Never even crossed my mind that that would happen.

My bad luck. Well unless then slam the camera down on the ground and jump up and down on it!!
