Will the Poly Construction Impact Monorail Operation?

Hi all!

My DH and I will likely be staying at Bay Lake Tower on gifted DVC points at the end of 2014. We want to make the best of our trip and are worried the construction at the Polynesian will effect monorail functioning. Will this be a problem? If so, we will likely look into another DVC location.

Thanks!!!

It could.

Consider what occurred during the GF DVC construction - if TALL heavy equipment is moving in & out? The rails could be in a situation where they must be de-energized, for worker safety.
Only the bungalows are new construction at the Poly DVC and they do not require shutting down the monorails. They are all ready bring built and the materials trucked in, no cranes needed.

Rapa Nui and Tahiti are current existing buildings the are essentially being renovated and cranes, if needed, can get to them without affecting the monorail. At least as far as the DVC is concerned it's a very different construction process than GF which was new construction from the ground up requiring heavy beams and construction materials to be brought across the tracks. There is nothing similar at the Poly DVC.

The GCH is also an existing structure that is being remodelled to improve the lobby rather than new construction. It should not impact the monorail either and there are existing access points to get to the building if required.

Actually a crane is onsite now putting the roofs on the bungalows. This will continue for a while. Also work to the parking lot, Rapa Nui and Tahiti are inside the monorail track and at times may require them to stop the monorail operation.

Im really most interested in knowing if the monorail will be impacted the first week of 11/2014. I know there are no guaranteed perfectly laid plans but when is this construction set to end as of now?

Even if they needed to shut it down at Poly, last fall when monorail work was going on during the day while I was at The World, they were running a shuttle monorail back and forth from MK and Contemporary.

Thanks for everyone's responses. Basically what our mindset is is that we are really interested in staying at BLT only for the convenience of the monorail. If the monorail is compromised we would look to stay elsewhere. We will have to see what happens. Thanks!

As Steve mentioned the monorail reduced hours have nothing to do with Polynesian construction. There is no information available that says if or when the monorail would be affected by construction at the Polynesian at this point but construction will continue until late 2015.

I dont know if this helps, but when I called Disney before booking this October's trip, I asked extensive questions about the state of construction by my arrival date, and asked about the monorails (10/20 - 10/30) and they said aside from the Volcano Pool and some work on GCH, I should be good to go. I asked if the monorail would be up to snuff by then, and the CM said there didn't seem to be a problem with my dates, that monorail should be running as usual. However... who knows. I booked anyway :)

Wow this picture is depressing. Poly is so bad right now. I feel bad for those staying at the resort over the next year, should have closed it down. Wait till they close the pool :0

It's going to get worse...I have it on good authority that the Fountains in the Lobby of the Polynesian are coming out. While I'm sure Disney will make it look nice, I have always Loved those fountains. We have stayed at The Polynesian Resort at least 15 times and Love the look of the lobby. I'ts going to seem so strange to not have the fountains in there.
