Will the Marathon drastically affect the crowds?

We are going down 01/06 to 01/12 and have never experienced the marathon crowd from a guests POV and was wondering how much it might affect the crowds? One reason I booked for January is lesser crowds. Any stories or opinions would be appreciated!

Crowds are still light during this time. The only "inconvenience" you may have is being diverted on the road on Sunday morning to avoid the runners, depending on where you are staying or where you are going that morning.

We have been down there several times for marathon weekend. Buses are crowded in the mornings, and alittle bit more busy in the parks. But overall, not really noticable.

This is one runner who won't be in your way . . . granted, I'm only doing the half marathon, but my schedule is to arrive on Friday to pick up the race packet and kick around a little bit before turning in early,

then getting up in the middle of the night to get transported to the race starting point, running for 3 hours in the morning and then recovering for the rest of the day around my hotel. The last thing I expect to be doing Saturday afternoon and evening is tromping through the parks.

Then, I'm flying home on Sunday.

So don't postpone your trip because of me!

I went to AK on the day of the marathon and it felt very busy because some of the paths were closed / narrowed for the event. the actual wait times etc were very small though!
