Will the Little Mermaid ride be changed?

I'm not sure how valid this site is, but according to Disney Dining, there is some speculation that the Little Mermaid ride at the Magic Kingdom could be altered to be more like the live-action movie: https://www.disneydining.com/this-beloved-magic-kingdom-ride-could-change-entirely-ir1/.

According to the article in question, guests have been complaining about how the animatronics have been looking worse for wear, and the ride often stops due to technical difficulties. The article speculates that, while it's not on the cards right now, if the new movie does well enough, Disney could potentially overhaul the ride to be like the one from the movie, especially since the ride is allegedly in bad shape now.

I hope that doesn't happen and the new movie is just a passing fad, though the ride could definitely benefit from some sprucing up.
Sounds extremely unlikely to me.

Disney Dining is a garbage click-bait website owned by the same guy that owns Inside the Magic. Their goal is to get Disney fans to post links to their site and discuss their baseless claims...

The ride is in bad shape? While I think they could have done better with it, it is certainly not in bad shape....Not the last time I rode it, and any difficulties with the animatronics can be repaired... No need for them to make any changes....
And so far, yes I agree the live-action remakes have had no real staying power...not like their counterparts...

I wouldn't say the ride as a whole is in bad shape but the major animatronics are in bad shape. The first Ariel figure barely moves anymore and her mouth is completely busted. The mechanics need a major tune-up and the figures could use some new skin but aside from a short refurb, the ride should be good as new. Does anyone know if this ride has ever gone down for an extended refurbishment aside from when they changed the lighting in the Under the Sea scene?

Remember when there was chatter that they would be putting an animatronic Eddie Murphy in the Haunted Mansion? That never happened either...lol Of all the things the parks need and all the places to spend money, this seems the least possible choice....

I am going to guess no because of three things:
  1. Money
  2. The attraction is based on the original animated feature.
  3. Oh, yes, and MONEY.
Set aside whether this live action film is viewed as successful.

Plenty of other live action versions of the films have done well, but none of them have displaced the animated originals on various merchandise or have become the predominant version in the public’s mind of these characters.

We agree.

When I said money, I mean to say they don't want to spend money in the parks if they don't have to, nothing to do with how this move does.

In fairness, had The Haunted Mansion been the kind of runaway smash that Pirates was he almost certainly would have been added (with Jennifer Tilly taking over as Leota . . . 🥶). Thankfully, Disney exercised restraint.

But that was a different time, and a very different scenario - Pirates didn't have to remake the ride top to bottom to make Jack Sparrow fit. The Animated Little Mermaid already has an enormous cultural footprint, and Disney seems more than happy to regard their Animated/Live Action properties as wholly separate entities.

If they were to decide to make a real investment in the parks with Live Action Little Mermaid, this is not where or how they'd do it.

I would love to see that, LOL

They could take the old Ripley animatronic from the great movie ride, put an Eddie Murphy head on it, and add him at the endless hallway entrance....LOL....

That is true, and while I believe Disney threw a lot of money at the Haunted Mansion Movie for production (which was gorgeous) , they forgot to spend the money for a good script... This new reboot should be interesting...I am hoping it will be good enough to boot one more and use the WDW version of the house (Which is also the Tokyo version)... and hopefully they will have Guillermo Del Toro do that one....
