universal now has HP
disney had narnia since 2005
so will narnia be able to save attendence for disney?
speaking of which i finnaly got the order!:sohappy:
2007: BMG
2008: the simpsons ride
2009: HP
o.k. back on topic, i know narnia isn't that popular anymore, but next year the second narnia movie will come out, and it says on screamscape
for the release of the second narnia film, journey into narnia: creating the lion the witch and the wardrobe(or JIN:CTLTWATW) will be closing in early 2008 for rehab to do the second movie
-screamscape
will that save disney? or a new narnia attraction?

Disney's attendance will not be affected by a small themed area in one park. Universal has 2 parks, 3 hotels, 1 waterpark. Disney has 22? Hotels, 2 waterparks and 4 parks. There is huge difference between the 2. If a whole Harry Potter park was being built then I could see them loosing some visitors to the less popular parks but Universal are never going to build any more themeparks in Orlando since they sold off land.

The problem is that people who visit Uni are mainly there for Disney. If they come to Florida for the likes of HP, they will also spend a sizable amount of time in Disney. Besides, Blue Man Group and the Simpsons in just two years isn't much compared to all the new rides opened at WDW just this year.

please see post #58 on the Jim Hill thread! Narnia can't save WDW because it doesn't need to be saved! The world is the greatest entertainment venture on the entire planet. Sorry, no quiddich for you!

I dont think Narnia will save WDW because I dont think potter is any real threat to disney. I do think that disney will do something to combat it but even if they dont it wont matter all that much.

The only question that needs to be asked is if Harry Potter will save Universal.

That is probably a yes.

Disney and Universal are NOT competitors.

They could have been when Universal first opened, and Disney built MGM to compete with them.

However, Walt Disney World is a thriving resort that is making huge leaps in attendance and drew over 45m guests to its 4 parks last year.

Universal's attendance went down in 2006. Offering things like they do now - a week at the parks for what, $70? is not going to put them into competition for Disney. They are fighting to survive becoming irrelevant. It speaks volumes when GE couldn't find a buyer for the parks.

How long is Harry potter going to last?
over here in uk, it seems its all but over, afew more books to come out some more movies, but people will get bored of it.kids who started with the first harry potter will have grown out of it buy the time its done.
seems crazy to build a whole theme park based on a single character.

Narnia is not meant to or ever will be built to compete with HP. I think each set of parks hold their own. Also don't forget Disney is only using what 1/3 of the land. There is a lot of room to do anything they wish. I am glad Universal got HP, now it gives Disney a a chance to respond and makes Universal a tad bit more competitive.

As far as Universal getting BMG and Simpson Ride. Meh, I am very ho hum over those. I love BMG, but to see the show you need a separate ticket and no requirements to go to the park. It is like Cirque Du Soliel for Disney. The Simpsons ride is cool, but it is just a rethemed Back to the Future. I know they are updating the mechanics but I would have really liked it better if they just did a refurb to BTTF and updated those mechanics. I was actually sad to see BTTF close.

HP is no more compettion to Disney, then a new casino opening on the strip in Las Vegas. People who are intrested in seeing it will go. The other "BIG DOGS" on the strip will still get there loyal crowds and first time tourists.

Being a 40 something, I have not read any of the books, nor have seen any of the movies. Yes HP is popular with alot of younger people. But you are talking ONE franchise. It will become dated, like the earthquake ride.

Universal/IOA are great amusement parks. In my opinion rank second in the amusement park pecking order: Disney, Universal/IOA, Six Flags.

If WDW did not have MK, Epcot, Studios, and DAK... it would still be a world class resort destination IMO. USO lacks what Disney World truly is.

* The 2 (soon to be 3) nicely themed water parks
* Marketplace, PI, West Side, and the upcoming "Western Way" development
* The Seven Seas Lagoon as the focal point of 3 great resorts
* WDW created Celebration
* DWWS
* The 20 beautifully themed resorts + the DVC resorts
* Throw in the non-Disney stuff such as CROSSroads, and Hotel Drive
* The very well landscaped and maintained RCIP roadways, sidewalks, canals, and lakes.

Of course, there is also MK, Epcot, DAK, and Studios. MK being #1 in the world and the other 3 are listed in the top ten.

That's why people STAY at Disney and take a shuttle to Universal.

I am pretty confident in saying that WDW will survive the Potter. This coming from a fan of the HP books and movies. I will be the first one lined up at AMC Pleasure Island when OotP opens.

While USO/IOA are fine parks that you can spend a day at there is just no "resort" there like WDW. To me there is no competition, it's more of a case that Disney made Orlando a tourist area and USO/IOA is another option for something to do when you go to Florida for WDW.

Narnia could be a very nice venture for disney, They could be a ride revolving around that and I think it would be a nice crowd grabber. But I dont think the HP thing will phase disney that much if at all. Uni is strugglin disney isnt.

in my honest opinion.....no it wont.

Harry Poter is soooooooooooooo much bigger than Narnia.
i prefer Narnia to HP but i honestly dont think that it has enough power over HP to be more successful as an attraction.

Harry Potter is definitely big, but let's be honest, there's just about nothing that can beat Disney right now.

I don't believe Universal can ever compete with Disney cause Disney is a monster of a theme park resort. Universal does however, try and get as many tourists as they can to at least visit their park while they are also visiting disney. Universal is trying to revamp their park by taking out Back to the Future and adding the Simpsons and the Harry Potter attraction. I hope Disney plans to revamp the MGM park to make it more of an all day park.
