Will lights, motors, action get new cars?

The pontiacs wouldnt hold up for one whole show.

they'd probably be cheaper to modify for show use than purchase the rally cars though ;)

A GTO drifter costs $25k more than the stock car, and most of the modifications would be the same.

Now for the cars...

...they are rally cars with Opel sheet metal. They share nothing with the street cars.

RWD, Rear engine 1800CC Turbocharged Hayabusas :D, 4 forward gears/4 reverse gears, non locking handbrakes, full roll cage.

Yeah, I've got the same setup in my '78 AMC Pacer. :lookaroun Yeah, it's bad.

From what i heard the opel is coming here anyway.... I dont know how true that is but that would be a good move from GM.
Yeah, i heard that rumor too a while back, but i think it morphed into the current Saturn-as-Opel strategy that they're pushing now. I can't say that i blame them, redundancy of models and having too many brands is what ultimately killed Oldsmobile.
My wife is a Saturn fangirl (her current dream car is a Sky Redline), and for the longest time i put them off as another bland and boring marque, but now i'm really coming around and warming up to the new ones. I'd totally consider trading in my Mazda 3 for a Saturn Astra Redline (Opel Astra GTC) if the time comes.

Most Opels are already sold in the Mexican market as Chevys. So they're on the continent, now to shift them north :D

l.m.a florida vs l.m.a paris

from what i have read some like the show some dont.
i seen the original in paris and between both show's the paris one is better.

in mgm studio they do the show for the american market not europe.

in the paris version there is a motor bike rider pre-show he warms up the Audience with trick on his bike.
they bring people out of the Audience to do small parts in the display and the ending of the show they finish the film at the same time as car come out of the window.
the cars they use in the show are the same type we can buy in the uk , just a little more fancy.

i hope they bring back the french part of the show its mutch better

les m , uk

No US car looks most like the Opel right now (except for the new Chevy Malibu/Malibu Maxx has opelish traits, and the Saturn Sky is being sold in Europe as the Opel GT). Beginning this year, most Saturns sold in the US will be rebadged Opels, slightly modified for the US market.

As far as performance goes, they can't be compared. The GTO is a muscle car, the show cars are Rally Cars with Opel sheetmetal on top.

Wrong... wrong... wroooooooooooooooooooooooong

Platform is a derivative of the Cadillac Catera (predecessor to your CTS Jer;), which is a mildly modified version of the Opel Omega Platform from Europe.

The engine is (at the most recent iteration), the GM Small Block LS2 (Gen IV for the aussies) from the Corvette, with a Tremec 6 speed manual (or nasty GM slushbox).

Did I mention it's Rear Wheel Drive?

It ain't your friggin Grand Prix rebadge Jer :D

Actually the GM Sigma platform takes some inspiration from Holden but is not used by Holden and as many earlier posters including myself said the GTO is a rebadged Holden Monaro. Apart from having derivative of CTS (not the Catera which as I recall was merely a V body). Though you are correct that the Catera was built on an Opel platform. Either way the GTO has little to do with the Caddy that Zigs.

Too bad GM really doesn't have a hot hatch in the US market, could make for a great tie in (I dream of the day the rumored BMW 135i comes to the US market)

I would love to have a focus rs. from what i heard if ford ever released that here they would have to sell it for 25,000 and they are afraid no one would buy a "focus" for that price. I'll take 2! 1 for daily 1 for....

I didn't say the GTO (or any Holden) was on the Sigma platform :)

The Catera was on GM's V platform, which Holden modified extremely and stretched for the Commodore... which Holden then shortened and used for the Monaro, which is known as the GTO in the US :)

The V Platform Catera was the predecessor to today's Sigma Platform CTS.

And yes, the Catera was nothing more than a lux interior/rebadge job on the Opel Omega... heck, it was even built in the Opel Factory in Russelheim, Germany.

If the Astra VXR/Astra OPC were sold here.... I'd buy it, no questions asked.

Yep, GTO=rebadged monaro. They only had to change a few items so it would pass US crash testing, and some other small items for the US market (right to left hand drive). Is GM planning to kill the GTO in the next year or two? it's not been a hot seller, a trait that many other GM models share with the GTO...hmmmm

I remeber seeing this show in Disneyland Paris a couple of years ago, and then they used Vauxhall Corsas (Opel Corsas) in the show. Are these the same cars used at MGM studios, and also if they keep to the Vauxhall/Opel european theme, which I think they should, european car chases in movies, are better than US set car chases, imo, will they use the new style Corsa which is coming into market soon?:)

I think i just heard steve mcqueen rolling in his grave! But i admit you are right and its because of the fact that cars in just about every country are more agile than here. With the exception of australia, they seem to put 500HP and a truck bed on everything!
