Will a fifth gate ever be built at WDW?

Will a fifth gate ever be built at WDW? If so, when will it open?

That’s 100% contrary to their own data
Agreed. I just don't see them going 5th gate at WDW, I would expect rather a new gate at Disneyland or some other NA park(yeah I know will not happen...).

If you have 5 gates, you need 7 days vacation tied up to cover travel to and from. That is a lot of time, and great expense for many to do

Iger was directly asked the question in yesterday's earnings call and completely dodged it.
What's your take on that?

1) They want to build a fifth gate soon but are not ready to announce concrete plans (and you wouldn't do it on an earnings call anyway)?

2) They have no current plans, but they might want to build one, so no desire to say one way or the other?

3) They don't want to build a fifth gate but just chose not to answer?

4) Something else?

I will translate Igerspeak into English:
"We really don't want to build a fifth gate in WDW because mobs of folks come to WDW anyway and with Genie+ ILLs, the FEWER attractions we have the MORE MONEY we make!"

I would go with 3. Plan is to maximize revenues from the existing parks and add enough over the next ten years to keep guest interest.

Makes way more sense to me...

Adding 10 million guests across 4 parks is a lot more profitable than adding a new park with 10 million guests (and you have to hope you net a 10 million gain with adding a park, so 10 million after cannibalization) due to the overhead associated with infrastructure and redundant roles caused by a new park.

Although at one time I would have thought that a fifth park would have been a possibility...unfortunately, it won't happen for a long time--never say never, but it won't happen anytime soon. Provide new opportunities within the existing parks is where we are heading.

Which means little investment but rising prices. Got it.
Not really - they've hit a ceiling and are genuinely interested in breaking through it.

Given how the landscape the Walt Disney Company has shifted in recent years, and how the landscape of Florida theme parks is currently evolving, they're fully aware that the way to break through is money.

That doesn't mean there *won't* be cutbacks, of course. But they'll be investing. Seems they genuinely can't afford not to, at this point.

Interested in and shovels in the ground are two different things.

This has been tossed about for so long, I'm curious what people's thoughts are on it now.
I feel that before they even think about a new park, they need to fix a few things in the other parks first which wont cost nearly half as much, ie imagination pavilion, Mexico to feature coco, M.K adventure land, animal kingdom dino USA area, Hollywood studios behind the old animation area to the back right ( star wars bay shop used to be ), i think us Disney fans mustn't panic with Universal epic universe, I'm hearing that to get around from the other two parks isn't as easy as it looks. yes it will be amazing I'm sure, but I'm in no rush for Mario world, H.T.T.A.G doesn't appeal to me and is a pretty old franchise to be honest,i doubt anything will be near as good as G.O.T.G, if Disney just focus on the parks they have, that would be good for me , I'm a EPCOT fan , Disney still have the most varied theme parks you can get, but numbers wise yes universal is catching up, interesting times I'm sure, good post!!

Not to be negative here folks, but what exactly would that 5th gate be?

First you have Fantasy and family with MK - which is supposedly getting an expansion of Villians world
Second you have the "adult" oriented park with EPCOT - and its worlds to see how people interact and how everyone is different but one - I love EPCOT by the way.
Third you get the magic of cinema and TV with Hollywood Studios
Fourth was the magic of nature and ecology with Animal Kingdom.

So what is left for 5th park? I don't think they will do Villains if they do Villains at MK. So Space or Oceans?

ME - I would love a space based park - make it totally indoors(so could be anywhere in country) and have transport that shows moving through space like a space station, have anti-gravity type rides, and resorts based on different planets.

but I don't see it happening though

They're not going to build a new park because they don't have any new ideas. I guess they could build FoxWorld or something.
